Good job, I also do this same drill in some of my fitness kickboxing videos
If this is for a street fight that’s one thing, but people shouldn’t be throwing these in sport. It can do serious damage to your opponents knee permanently.
And this is why Jones is a POS. Well, not the only reason, but the one that sticks out most to me.
Have you heard of mma?
@@jellybeanman69 I agree. The oblique kick should be used only for self defense. Properly thrown and you'll easily blow someone's knee out. Not really sure why MMA allows this kick, especially since it has ruined a few careers already. There are guys like Wonderboy that won't throw it, mostly because he understands how to kick.
@@mycurrentaccount1511 yeah but if you do it in sparring you are dick...
@@MasterBrentMessmer Would you prefer to be limp or to develop CTE? In the MMA world
This would be a good self defense move
@@MichaelT83310 most good sparring drills are. It's all in the foot work
And thats How you make kindling right into the firebox.😂😂😂
A really detailed and clear explanation, with useful nuances! Thanks a lot
Glad it was helpful! I try my best
🤦♂️
Is that just me or would you expect a proper martial artist to look like he trains?😅
Ok
Thanks. Despite being bald, but very helpful instructions.😅
If you practice getting your spins fast enough to turn another 180, that tornado hook kick will go from dumb to deadly (executed off the other leg)
Great kids class lesson.
Really enjoy your videos!
Great video. I didn't fully understand why you did the two targets at the end though. With bob to the side? Would that not have you practicing shooting your second kick on an off angle?
@@TomComingAtcha the target moves too much if you actually strike with both kicks. Also if you choose to do this as a board break, you'll need 2 different holders
That Sir was Brilliantly taught. Very thorough, and the Best tutorial by far on this kick Thanks so much Great job Sir. Blessings to you and your family.
Thank you sir. Much appreciated. God Bless
Super impressive, I reckon you could do a 540 hook kick but i get it if you dont really want too.
That's the lightest "heavy bag" I've ever seen. What's it filled with, popcorn?
@@michaelanderson4849 it's a kids bag. Maybe 40lbs
Yes! So THIS is how it's taught correctly. As a little kid on The West Coast Demo Team with Ninja Turtle and Nate Diaz's long time striking coach, Ernie Reyes Jr. (Early 1980s'). I would see this kick landing over and over in tournaments. I don't remember ever learning this but it morphed into my 540 and cheat 720 back kick. My favorite and most devastating. Aim for Solarplexus, if off a couple of inches, still devastating. Red belt and above. Get your basics down first (I was taught).
Appreciate it. Thanks
Looking forward to the spin hook variation
Saturday
Thank you for the lesson. I started TKD a year ago a little late for my age (I am 42) with my daughters and I had always struggled with this, this video is what I needed to make my 360 kick better. Thank you again.
Im glad it helped you out. Helping others that is why we chose do this channel
When you discover you can spin as fast as a figure skater..this leads to in my opinion the most powerful kick in all martial arts.
@@mikey472 it's hard to control, but it definitely is one of that guarantees a knock out. If you develop the timing.
Sir please how to do 1020 kick tutorial video please 😢
@@Xerox_444_LOL you want a50 year old man to jump, spin two and a half times, kick and land on my feet? I'm grateful that you think that highly of my skills. The best I can do is the 360 kicks
pls uplode more
Nice hook kicks 👌
Thanks 🔥
perfect thanks
Every one of your lessons is very beautiful, but I liked this one the most.
Thank you, much appreciated. Hook kick was always one of my favorite kicks
Uhm im just curious but why is there a philipines flag? I KNOW FOR A FACT theres barely any white taekwando practitioners and most of them are weak including me
We have the Phillipino flag up because our weapons program originates from there. We do escrima, staff and spear. Just remember a black belt is just a white belt that didnt quit.
Just remember kids...people can see you coming from 15ft away.
but they wont stand in front of you :)
Thank you for all your Awesome videos. I'm a red belt in Taekwondo I'm 52 years old 5'5 200lbs. I've been out of the martial arts for 25 years. So it's been a challenge. The breaking technique for my high red test is a 360 jump spinning hook kick. If you have time would you do a video on it. Been having trouble with the timing and getting the momentum out of (45) leg for lack of a better term. Maybe even a little tip on the chamber of the hook kick it's self. Thanks so much for all your help Sir.
@@jamescook2948 I would talk to your instructor about switching it to a step forward spin hook. Unless you like to jump, the torque on the knees might be too much for your size and age. Nevertheless, I will eventually be doing a video on the 360 backside and spin hook kicks. Thank you for watching. I'm glad they helped you
Great video Master Messmer! Reminds me of some of Master Grove’s glasses when we didn’t do much but listen to him talk. Not the best work out, but great thinking opportunities.
Thanks Ian! Some things needs to be taught verbally. Those classes were some of the most interesting ones. Especially considering 90% of what we do and who we are is in our head.
(I don't speak spanish, i used google translate)
Awesome tutorial, question. on your side kick video you mention driving the knee up high but in this video it doesn't seem like your driving the knee up on the backspin hook kick. Specifically just before you shoot the sidekick out to the side of the opponent. This is something that I have always wondered because I have heard people say lower chamber and others say high chamber. What do you think? Thanks!
I didnt stress the knee lift on this video, but its there. On the spin, the knee slams upwards but is immediately extending, so it rises as it reaches out. I try to actively drive the knee up on every kick, I'm not sure that a lower knee chamber would add power. The knee lift is explained better on my backside kick video right at the 5 minute mark, if you want to wacth it. By slamming the knee up after you pivot, you create momentum - this speed carries through the extension and the whipping action made with the hip flexors and finally the knee and calf muscles. Did that help?
Thanks for the video , grandma I am coming for you!
@@SkdaTheMain hopefully Grandma doesn't outrank you. Our Grandma is a fifth dan!
Thank you for the video. Looks deadly.
As an older (57) guy who got back into TKD about 18 months ago, your vids are a great help. Keep on kicking.
Thanks Chris. I'm glad they've helped. Too many things get lost if they're not shared.
Congratulations! It is also a great cardio exercise.
I am glad to see you don't flip your foot out. Nice and straight, like a stomp, is the best way!
Thank You. Sidekicks are defintely thrusting kicks, you can do them more snap at the knees but that is more of a quick jap, not a power stomp
Excellent video, thank you🙏
It's my 1st day learning this sport. After 4 days i have a tournament (school vs school) any ideas?

@@sangeetajagrawal5896 I would talk to my instructor
Good footwork drills Boss. More of this please.
Do you train with your hands down? Why wouldn’t your hands be up protecting your head ? Someone will hit you with a counter punch and your hands are no where in the fight .

Would you recommend a thousand kicks in an hour once a week with different kicks or three times a week with preparation is fine? Thanks
depends on what your goal is. If you want to work on perfecting a kick then do 20 variations of that kick 3-4 times/week. If you want to mix it up, which is what I have my 1st degrees do, pick 5-6 kicks with 3-5 variations for each. But build up to it. start with 5-600 and work your way up
@@MasterBrentMessmer Thank you. I’ll start off with certain kicks then mix it up. I love your channel and focus. You remind me Fran Sands who has a boxing channel with that name. Both of you have that heightened focus with the minute details of technique. Keep it up!
I appreciate it. Thank you. You could start a tracking sheet to help track your progress. List all your kicks and the number you do daily
🔥🔥
thank you
Thank you. I’m down for the challenge!!!
How are you doing on your challenge?
@@MasterBrentMessmer Thank you for checking in. I did about 400 front kicks and elbow strikes. Now the top of my foot aches. I was going to ask you about that. I turned 50 a few weeks ago. I don’t know if it’s the pressure of my kicks into century bob that’s causing the aches.
@@renelvital Bob is pretty dense it could cause the pain. Try mixing up more variations. Have someone hold a paddle target or set up a tennis ball and string to work on focus and speed, not power. You can also do that with Bob. How many variations of front kick are you doing? Skip, lead leg, rear leg, hop, jump, switch feet, half switch, push kick, Sparta version with the heel. All are good choices to keep you focused
I worked on the lead and rear kicks. I love lead kicks. The following days I worked on switch kicks. I used your videos to improve the chamber motion for the front, roundhouse and sidekick. Huge difference and I’m happy. I also began practicing the hook and wheel kick. That’s new for me.
@@renelvital I'm glad the videos helped. The reason I started this project was to help other students and spread the knowledge of our style of kicking
Thank you for the video.

Hello! I have watched and liked a few of your videos and it is refreshing to see you teaching correctly! (So many McDojos' out there. I am currently somewhat bed ridden as I may be facing a third hip replacement and I have been fighting Cancer for the last four years. I sure wish I could train so, again I enjoy watching you teach, keep up the good work. I started training with the Founders of West Coast Tae Kwon Do here in the Bay Area and member of Ernie Reyes World Demonstration Team. I can no longer end a fight with a cheat 720 but that was fun practicing that technique thousands of times until I could nail people with it during sparring even when they knew it was coming. Can you make a cheat 720 video please?
