The man, he has been a person who is at home one way an in the public or the places they go now she has to watch a pastor who supposed to be a double agent kinna says, you are a hyppocrite a hypocrite jp,, that is what she more than likely was calling him but the way he thinks of his own reputation even saying that was bad look for him so, a double agent he choses to tell a hallf truth . I think he being a hypocrite sounded like a word he heard as a statment he has put out before jp was a pastor, he used to think churches they were for he saaid, people who are one way there in house an a diffrent way in the church . They are words he shared think on his bio or the before he became a christian even or had started solid rock, he has been exsposed to be part of the bar , piano bar in croc rocks he an his friend in church both secretly were double minded an she was finding out finacial crimes an being told her getting the school plans together , he was telling her they did not have the money the moneys very much coming in by the cars an the material spending he was doing in the efforts to really have the Afrixa misson trip her looking at the money was the begining of the end the man, he tried to discourage her off the subject but unable to have her drop the Africa topic of hher new intrest in searching through who knwws all she was uncovering the root of evil is money an he has no love for her, God, he sees none of the 5 kids he has w ex an she has them , He seems to be with suszie as the alibi while they are going to see kids play soccer that day when he is not a dad , he shows the effort of all days in kids sports on day her body was found well, how convienient for him an the other widow . I think the man killed her an it will be eventually changed to murder,
I am not sure your final inference from the "or not" coda is actually the right one. His seething anger could so easily be generated by the true story being that there was an overnight accident when they were, indeed, otherwise engaged in bed next door and that this accident arose from sedation for which he held his wife responsible, and he resents having to represent himself as having irresponsibly been in the Tapas Bar (not having paid for child surveillance). So the guilt arises from a different direction, not actually connected with doing the things that the question implies. And, if they were in the other room, they wouldn't have engaged the child care, would they?
Fascinating analysis. As a lay reader, I find the problem with the first yellow clause is functional; the trouble is that it is an excuse. She is trying to represent it as a piece of contextual knowledge that the audience has, and also to use it as an some sort of situational descriptor: " I was doing these checks every 7 minutes, being very conscientious, and I found she was missing the third time I went in". Once the vagueness of the adverb ("regularly") is replaced by something concrete, we can see how feeble this is, both as a description and as an excuse (it would only be a good excuse if the checking were not only regular but hyper-frequent). But it is not a complete failure as a perfunctory answer to the question; her story is that she was checking regularly and it was the doing of this checking that led to the discovery (although, of course, the purpose of the checking was to forestall there being anything to discover). She doesn't, as remarked, actually want to tell us what she saw or heard, or smelt, or about feeling the temperature of the bed clothes, although these too would be answers to the question, construed as seeking information about how the discovery was for her, rather than about how it unfolded. She alludes to how it might have felt, but without telling us what it was like.

I’m sadly behind in my viewing of your amazing videos. These all about McCanns language are bombshells and are very illuminating. I’m wondering if you could explain the language of the recent interview of Kamala Harris and Walz? It all sent up red flags for me. Consistent failures to answer directly the basic questions put to them especially Walz who likes to tap dance around the question. They both did a lot of sidestepping. Wow. (For example - I’ve made this one up): “how will you handle the devastating storms that are coming?” Answer by Walz “ Everyone has seen the flooding and folks out there without a place to live - I once authored a bill to provide new rowboats to the victims.” That was an example I made up but it sounds like Walz. I don’t know what he said after he said it !! After each question by the interviewer I expected a real response - (all 3 were seated at a table in a very recent televised interview. Please let me know if it’s something you want to discuss and I’ll send you the link. Thanks for all you do! You are Amazing!
@@valleygirl2530 hey Valleygirl, you are too kind! I did watch it but I will finish the McCann interview before doing anything else. The best word that came out of it for me was " schlub". Great analysis Bob, that end phrase "trying to find your daughter " is like Schrodingers attempt, instead of Schrodingers cat, as in it exists but doesn't exist at the same time, see ya next time when we board Gerrys blunder bus again.
@patriciaburns1033 that is a very good analogy . Excellent!
Remarkable insight as always. Thank you again for this free education in linguisitics. I've been thinking about ways to help this channel grow. Linguistics is complicated, more so than statement analysis. One thing that SA has going for it in the context of a YT video is its concepts are easy to understand and, even if you've never heard them before, can be quickly explained in a sentence or two. I'm noticing, as you guide the audience deeper into Hallidayan Linguistics, it gets harder for a newcomer to easily grasp concepts that have been introduced and explained in earlier videos. It's like - if you haven't done the previously required viewing, some things in this video might not make sense. I'd bet you've been thinking about this too. I wonder if there's a way you can think of to quickly summarise each specific technique or facet of the analysis so that every video can stand alone, even for a new viewer? It might be impossible to do so without compromising your craft. If it were possible, it would make your videos even more accessible and hopefully help them get the numbers of views I think they deserve. Just a thought. I'm sure it's already occurred to you. Sorry to bang on. Keep up the stellar work, I always look forward to the new video.
@YellowJello57 I appreciate your feedback, yellow. I'll try to make things more accessible without being repetitive.
I think viewers are responsible for their own catching up as it takes a personal intention to learn. As in a classroom where the students who have fallen behind are not allowed to slow down the ones who have kept up. It’s a tough world and this generous man appears to know what he’s doing - I don’t think he’s greedy for any and all potential viewers. People learn at their own pace and commitment.

that's too kind! thanks, Rosie
Sharing his brain? If only more people were so inclined. Americans appear to have misplaced their brains these days. I’m scared.
Magnificent analysis as always, Bob. Huge thanks, it’s absolutely fascinating. I did study English but (I don’t know if it’s ADHD or Dyslexia or what) I’ve never been able to remember the parts of speech etc, much like I can’t keep numbers in order. I’m saying this because even with my basic understanding of statement analysis I’d come to similar conclusions but to take it apart to this level is just so helpful and interesting…maybe I’ll finally remember the tricky stuff! Also I don’t really bother with body language but that massive blink Gerry does when he says the word, ‘back’, as in, ‘get your daughter back’, is hard to ignore. It’s not even a blink, it’s more like he can’t bear to look at the thought of *you* getting her back. Sorry for long post but just to add I saw this update from the McCanns and thought you might be interested: “It’s 17 years since Madeleine was taken from us. It’s hard to even say that number without shaking our heads in disbelief. Whilst we are fortunate in many ways and able to live a relatively normal and enjoyable life now, the ‘living in limbo’ is still very unsettling. And the absence still aches. “Your support continues to encourage us and bolsters our strength to keep going. We know the love and hope for Madeleine and the will to find her, even after so many years, remains, and we are truly thankful for that. Thank you again for remembering Madeleine and all missing children.” They just can’t say it, can they? Thanks as always Bob, I mean massive, giant thanks.🙏❤️🙏
@@penelopehughes-jones5265 hi Penelope, I don't mind long comments at all! I wonder if 'get [...] daughter back' is borrowed from experiential knowledge - a memory of a resuscitation attempt? I'll give back and look at the blink.
@@Plingu698 Ah…good thought, that makes sense. Something terrifying. I can’t imagine that terror…I feel empathy for them, even if Gerry is, to be honest, repellent. I wouldn’t wish what happened on anyone, whatever mistakes or bad decisions they made, even with the cash they’ve made from it, I’m still sorry for them, grateful not to approach that situation and of course sorry most for Madeleine. Thanks again Bob.

Can I ask you if you have a beginner’s guide/checklist? I’m very fond of word-smithing, and I love statement analysis, this level of linguistic-analysis has me a little at sea, because, as a native speaker, I haven’t studied the intricacies of that which I do naturally. Is there a beginner’s guide that you’d recommend? This is a fascinating arena.
@@mmcmiddlechild the best book is " An introduction to functional grammar " by MAK Halliday, which sets out the 'system' , but if this is too technical, which it is for a beginner, there is another book called , 'The explorer's guide to Functional Grammar" ( I think that's the title). Hi Bob, Hurt that we had !!!! What about now!!! Strange thing to say, sounds that they have gotten over their daughter very quickly 😮
@gillianlaing1073 Yes. Three weeks might be enough time to come to terms with an accident, but the hurt of a missing child would grind on forever
You are right on this! I'm glad that my American sense of outrage at this idiot CP, can be discerned by people from other countries and backgrounds. A cowardly bully (sadist) can be unmasked by his "no way out" planning in ANY language. He bullies women and children. Married 8 times? You'd raise your son with THAT organism. I think the language represents the military background of CP. But Sébastien is not a soldier. He's a little boy with no one to depend on.

You are welcome
As other commenters have said, “The Enemy” is basically saying the devil made me do it. There is lots of religious chatter - at the moment especially now as so many aspects of life feel uncertain - that humans as a species are facing spiritual warfare and it’s a battle and you need to stay alert and righteous so the enemy can’t accidentally take you over and use you for their goals….which are not clear to me. I respect most religions and beliefs systems and am not trying to categorically criticize any of them. There are many Christian beliefs and traditions that people have found helpful for thousands of years but some of the current American rhetoric is basically a call to hysteria. It also preys on people who are struggling because a call to arms where it’s good vs evil makes people who don’t have much power feel like they can do something. So that kind of Christian rhetoric is also frequently weaponized by politicians. JP Miller and CW definitely have being born again Christians who love quoting scripture and twisting it to justify their situations in common. Idk enough about Stephan Sterns to say. It is also common for people who have mental health problems that include psychosis and violence to feel possessed and view that part of their mental illness as a demonic enemy that is separate from them. JP would likely fit into this category given his diagnoses and long history with mental health treatment. It would’ve been further bolstered by the mental health system as it’s common advice, at least in many, many American hospitals to suggest psychiatric patients find some sort of faith to bolster them (it’s even common in self-help groups like AA) since spirituality correlated with better long term recovery outcomes. So for JP, as a second generation con man and preacher who has episodes of psychosis and has spent time in mental hospitals and is also trying to retain power and play politics within his church - the enemy is the devil and reinforced from so many different angles. It’s common for people who are facing LWOP for ending the lives of others to use the idea that an outside force cause them to do it rather than the fact they did something terrible of their own volition as a coping mechanism. So it’s not surprising that CW has come up with this framework to maintain whatever sanity he has left.
@MeatyPeach it is a deception that supports many others, perhaps
Thank you so much for your insights, Bob. Could you please analyse the priest who helped them next? His name is father Hubbard, there are some clips of him on youtube. @@austrianchicken thanks. You keep me going
Brilliant analysis and explanation Bob - I love the way you systematically unpick it all. I think the average person, lacking your knowledge and skill, can also tell that the language is off and deceptive in nature though - the brain is an extraordinary supercomputer and can process things at an unconscious level without the person understanding why they have come to a particular conclusion.
That's true. Something 'smells fishy' before you work out why
She said 'I drove around hysterical looking for him', had a three way phone call with Chris and the Police, Chris said law enforcement are on their way to the house so... 'I ran back... I mean, drove back to the house'. It's deceptive. She also said 'it was really dark that night... uh and every night'. That night! Another mistake she said 'when I woke him up for school he wasn't there'. Her grammar is all over the place throughout her whole story telling and narrative building from all the cognitive overload. The same with Chris. It's looking likely now that something transpired the night before. Was there an altercation. Was Chris there? Coincidentally at the same time this boy goes missing Chris appears with several abrasions and lacerations on both of his forearms that look remarkably like human bite marks or nail marks. Which he claimed came from the dogs. Which is weird that multiple dogs made same marks independently but in the same place at the same time. If he had said "the dog" and not "the dogs." Maybe it's possible.
Excellent work! The PR officer from the Government was Clarence Mitchell not Max Clifford btw.
And then Mark Williams Thomas, who the Fine Madeleine Fund told me via email is in charge of Operation Grange now, although I don't know that to be true, they should surely know.

Brilliant, Bob! Thank you so much! Two questions: Regarding the guilt that will never leave them and that was very difficult. Could that be Madeleine? Allegedly she was a difficult child and therefore sedated. Second, could "rationalize in our head" point to a fatal head injury that Maddie suffered?

This is a brilliant series so far. Anecdotally (as per Peter Hyatt/Statement Analysis fwiw) innocent parents of children who have met with misadventure carry immense guilt for the rest of their lives. They don't typically get over it in a number of days. It's only those with guilty knowledge that feel the need to deny their guilt. If you have a clear conscience, you will be open to admitting you feel guilt. What is done IS done - it's just so final. They know what happened and have processed the events thus trying to move forward. Looking forward to more of these. You're really getting to the heart of things. It's got to be nigh on impossible for anyone to refute your assertions.
hey yellowjello, you are too kind. I totally agree either way you- the finality is three-fold; it is manifest in all three parts of the clause. Interesting what you say about clear conscience admission of guilt. I agree with that. i am looking at the next question and answer right now.
