We are a group of three students studying design, engineering, and history who are working to document military vehicles and the stories of veterans and volunteers who crew and restore those vehicles.
Our goal is to combine our interests in order to preserve history, study engineering, and make excellent videos that will be viewed and accessed by future generations.
Many thanks to the Ontario Regiment Museum which graciously allows us access to their collection and demonstrates them for us:

It is a tuna can.Is it still in service?
Beautiful!!!
It was all Italy could make at the time. In 1940 was not a bad tank but from late 1941...
The soldier at 1:16 seems to have a revolver. I wonder how that got into theatre?
Very cool looking rig and old flatheads are really easy engines to work on.
"Бедфорд"ы были поставлены в Советский Союз в небольшом количестве во время Второй Мировой Войны. Позже по этой компановке Советы создали армейский грузовик ГАЗ -66.
The fifty cal needs the recoil buffers to be removed and cleaned, then reinstalled. That will fix the stoppage problem.
How come you rarely see these with the mount for the recoilless rifle? This is the first time I’ve seen it in awhile
My first comment, nice to see an original being restored. Second, you forgot to open the front portion of the Commander's hatch which is where the scissor scope would project from. The correct ammunition will be marked KWK40, same as for late Pz. IVs, and electrically primed. That horizontal slot near center top of the frame is where an exhaust duct would be. This would draw smoke from firing the main gun into the engine compartment. It was held in place by the four bolts on the firewall, the other end held by the two square welded nut the underside of the roof just above your head. That complicating looking assortment of switches was for selecting which of the fuel tanks to use. Later this was much simplified. The slanted empty dark spot held a small priming tank. This held about a half Quart of gasoline and featured a hand pump for priming the engine when it is really cold outside. I also noted that the safety cage is missing. I have twenty years of Hetzer experience and driving here in the USA and am the founder of the WWII Historical Re-enactment Society.
I see. So the breech can automatically close because there is a spring forcing it closed, however when the breechblock is down, the extractors sprung above it prevent it from closing.
I looked it i think the extractors dont have a spring, theyre cammed to the breechblock with grooves.
I was a tanker who got to drive this thing and loved every second doing so.
m-113 is NOT amphbious it sinks the tub/tarp to go around it never worked and took to long to put on the only amphbios armored troop carrier of that age is the AAV used by the USMC...M- 113 can NOT swim ashore
Just think just down the road from me here in Bordon Hampshire, during the war a Canadian camp they had the 1946 sale selling off these Canadian trucks in their hundreds. What would i do for one today.
Vibey Great Production Adorable Holy Box Good Work Thank You
This vehicle had little in common with the 38t. The engine was different, the roadwheels although similar were different diameter. The springs were different, drive sprocket, idler were the same.
He's got the seats backwards. The gunner is on the right and the crew commander on the left. (I was a cougar gunner).
In his series "Can the Chieftain fit into a..." he discovered he can't fit into this. This big truck, when he can fit into a Bren Gun Carrier and even smaller vehicles! Well, he can sit in it but his criteria is he has to be able to drive the vehicle. His knee hits the wheel and he can't reach the brake pedal.
Power Steering😂
As a US LAV-LA2 crewman, this is super interesting
Are my eyes playing tricks or did I see the gas pedal placed a little above and between the clutch and brake pedals?
You mean a little below and between? Yes, from left to right it is Clutch, Accelerator, Brake. I'd hate to be in front of this truck while the driver tries to quickly move his foot from the gas pedal to the brake. I suppose it's this way because of the incredibly cramped footwell. A driver could only keep his foot on the gas for hours if the pedal is on the floor.
@@donjones4719 Thanks for the time and effort to clarify this particular aspect. Yes, it is a little below, not above.
Oh! God, I wish you had put the whole precious/ now rare item, on a bench to unpack, to get one in, new condition like that must, have been a special opportunity. That radio saw service, in thousands of tanks and other military vehicles until the early 1960s. I was trained to use one in 1956, before joining my Armoured Regiment in Germany. I do hope yiur set survived to be, tested and working again… What a great purchase, but please unpack precious items like radios on a workbench. A very intriguing video.
Can you imagine in what conditions our soldiers went to war? Imagine this obsolete tank under the Sahara sun, Without a cooling system and with the engine in front of the legs, without water, without change between first and second line,Against enemies who come from all over the world, better equipped.
Awesome tuff trucks. There is only one problem with them. The steering is on the wrong side...sounds great.
We had made a LHD conversion, with Mercedes Benz front system. I know that it loses its worth, but it is far better to drive...
thats an awesome truck my dad has the same model but a 43 year and his has a 351 windsor and a zf 5 speed gearbox from a 90s ford f250
SKF = Svenska Kullagerfabriken ( Swedish Ball bearing Factory )
i jumped when breach closed!
Australia had them too.
Nice one guy s chaps thanks 😊
I wouldn’t call them amphibious, they swim. Good for crossing rivers and small bodies of water. I wouldn’t swim one in rough water. When I had mine in the water there was about an inch and a half between the water and the top deck, and if you stopped moving the trim vain ( that panel covering the engine hatch) would stop pushing the front up and you sink.
I think an armored vehicle should withstand the shells fired from the another same model. This thing can barely withstand AK 47 firing from 100 yards distance. The engine bay had very poor protection.
I think a pissed off Viking with an axe could take a Cougar/Mowag out. 😁
Btw, Canadian armoured vehicles never said “CANADA” on them, however they did have a Canadian maple leaf on them
Glad at least a few of the younger generation have an interest.
Great Truck, Just a Note, the switch on the dash for the Fuel Selection only switches in the Sender unit form tank 1 to Tank 2 There is a Fuel selector Tap on the Floor to the Left rear of the drivers seat :-)
Ford Canada
Matthew pyles old chieftain i have driven that
I wonder if anyone would recall the slogan referring to its off-road capabilities ...... " Cougars don't go where bullrushes grow"
You guys should have started a go fund me site.
Just curious. Was the restoration finished, will it fire a shell?
It is wrong info with that live round in the chamber. Of course it could have that, and shooting on the move including shooting without stopping in case of ambush was trained repeatedly. Only case was moving between palposts in the peacetime, because Warsaw Pact in Cold War always travelled with elevated main gun, so accidental goout could fly some 10 -15 kilometers. This tank is Czechoslovak production, manufactured in Slovakian town called Martin. This tank was not used by Czechoslovak army or any Warsaw pact ally, because all of Czechoslovak T-54s were upgraded to T-54M, this meant complete upgrade to T-55 standard, including an engine and amount of ammunition (which was higher for T-55) One of these upgrades was also blidening the hole for drivers machine gun and ventilator in front of loaders hatch to make the tank NBC protected. But the armoured cover of ventilator remained and this is basic simple recognition between T-54 and T-55.
Gawd how I adore the sound of those transmissions ma
i drove one configured as an ambulance with the US Army in Germany 1970. those levers are not to make it go faster and slower, they are for steering and braking, you make it go faster or slower by applying more or less pressure on the throttle pedal
You forgot to check the coolant. Oh thats right its air cooled.
A common sight around The Streets Of Belfast.
Another relic of the Trudeau (senior) decade of darkness. You keep mentioning different aspects of combat operations. It would have been criminally irresponsible to commit this POS vehicle anywhere near combat conditions. This vehicle is a tank trainer, it was purchased because it was dirt cheap, and could be manufactured in Canada, which is the paramount concern when it comes to equipment procurement in the Canadian Army. I spent 6 years in the 9:14 regular infantry, much of that time in the Grizzly (as a driver, section commander and as a body in the back) and the Grizzly was just as big a bad joke as the Cougar. I don’t understand the Canadian fixation with wheeled IFVs, I guess it boils down to $, because we would be in CV 90s, Korean K 21s or Pumas if the government gave a shit about the troops.
Hi if you are looking for optics for this project I think I have got one :)

I loved this carrier in wich i was trained as a driver. After my training I became the driver of the m752, the launch vehicle of the Lance missie. I still do a few times a year, when the museum is open, as a volonteer driver.
