Are there holes in the 2nd bin? You don't mention it one way or the other in this video. I really like adding wood pieces as innoculants.
@@diannetober3889 yes the middle tub should also have holes identical to the top so they can be switched as needed
I misplaced my instruction manual and this video made my setup a breeze. Thank you so much!
Use COARSE Grade perlite .
I really like this method thank you for sharing.
You can grind the beans and make ... MORE COFFEE!!!
Also what a very thorough video. Thankyou very much for your time and effort!🎉
Hi mate, what size and brand pressure cooker is this? Found it hard to find large pressure cookers in the UK
@@AcfLavertyy I just use the prestige high dome 6l. I found this a good size for domestic use and learning before upgrading to a larger imported cooker like a presto. Thanks for watching
@@thegreenerlife thankyou!
please never use an open flame inside or near a SAB that has been sprayed with alcohol !
Waw very nice video❤❤❤
Thanks
Thanks for speeding it up
I add some dry shredded cardboard to the drying castings so it soaks up the moisture even faster and then sift it back out in about 2-3 days depending on how wet they were. It’s my sifting hack, I have a triple decker sifter so it reclaims the cardboard for the next batch and separates out the castings.
Congratulations on reaching 500 subscribers.
Thanks for sharing that book. I think I might give the garbage vermiposting a shot next. Some critter is trying to chew their way into one of my outdoor storage tub bins, so I may relocate those worms into a garbage can bin.
Sorry I missed you live! Thanks for reviewing the books. ~ Sandra
Well done make getting 500+ subscribers. And the worms looking healthy 🪱🇳🇿
My bet is that the worms are going to get right into that pulpy paper once it gets moistened. ~ Sandra
Dude fix your title… it’s confusing.
If you blended all that feedstock together before you dump them into the worm bin.. would that be more efficient for consumption?
Love this idea the gf is looking at something like this as a cft in the last year she has fallen inlove with worms
You do have a nice amount of worms.
Worms are very forgiving, but I'm sure they will appreciate that fresh food. You still had some slow foods in there, so they weren't living totally in their castings. The research I covered recently showed that worms living in 100% castings suffer health consequences eventually. ~ Sandra
That's very interesting, I will have to check it out. Thank you for the great information
Great video 🪱🇳🇿
Thanks very much for taking the time to watch
I also got free food grade 5 gallon (20 L) buckets from restaurants to use for worms and castings. ~ Sandra
Brilliant way to upcycle a product. Love it 👍
I have a large in ground Stella Cherry tree that’s 6 years old and it’s amazing. It’s self fertile and gives large amounts of delicious cherries every year.
What zone do you live in and what kind of tree can I grow in a container?
We are in a zone 9a area and a vast number of trees can be grown in pots. Best of checking the terminal sizes to correctly choose pot size however semi dwarfing root stock will usually be a safe bet for potted trees
Time to learn more about worms! I've been growing worms for a couple of years, but I feel like you have more of a passion, As I just dump my scraps in with em, and forget about them for months at a time.
Wow, I didn't know they wouldn't die! Lots to learn...
Gave video a thumbsdown because the chick on the thumbnail not even in the video in the first 30 seconds. Stopped watching and plan on blocking channel because i really hate deceptive thumbnails.
Its unfortunate you feel that way
LOL crazy person. But hey, more discussion feeds the algorithm! 😂
Looks a bit dry. Also in my bins moisture is higher than yours seem and i find my worms all over the bin and not balled up on one end.
Agreed. If you check out the first video in our everything worm farming playlist, it explains how our bins work a little differently to standard breeder bins 😁 thanks for watching
Looked a bit dry
Nice easy worm bin 🇳🇿🪱
Nice educational video 🇳🇿
Just for future knowledge, worms don't actually wee. They do "perspire", but you shouldn't really get moisture out the bottom of the system. Happy to chat about it more if you'd like 🙂
Thanks for watching. I think the production of urea which is excreted as a waste product is close enough to wee for the point of this discussion. I also agree that you dont need moisture out of the bottom but I also know that some people like to drench through their system to remove and excess salt build up which was the point that was being made Appreciate you sharing your information tho
Great video 🇳🇿
Thanks very much 😁
How many worms do you have in the bin?
In this kind of system we only add about 500 worms but have a large population of compost worms in our garden which will move freely in and out of these bins. So you could start a bin without and in a few weeks find you have a healthy population natural 😁
This bin looks like it is indoors, not like the other one I watched that was designed to use outdoors. I live in Colorado where the summers can get quite hot, 100 degrees, and the winters can be cold, in the 20's. Would you recommend i try the indoor bin?
Thanks for watching. I like the consistency that comes with indoor bins. You may find starting an indoor system now will give you a head start and if you want to move outside next spring the option if there
This looks like something I could do, not too complicated 🙂. Is there another video on how to care for the worm bin?
@mitzimarquez2410 there absolutely will be a winterizing video coming soon. But this system is so simple, just add a layer of green material and let the nature do its work
Good idea to regulate moisture through the food rather than adding additional water. ~ Sandra
@NanasWorms always grateful for your kind words
come to support, thank you for sharing interesting videos, I like your content, keep up the good work, always success for all of us
@fishingcampborneo appreciate the support 👍
As long as it is well oxygenated yes
Another great video! I like to vigourously stir 1 cup of castings in a watering can, then drench it at the base of shrubs outdoors. That does the same thing you did, but it also deposits the leftover vermicompost as well. ~ Sandra
I feed my worms ground up eggshells, but the pistachio shells go into a small retort bin in my wood stove to create charcoal for biochar.
Love it. Will have to try that
Love the egg shell shaker. May have to make one of them. Do you make your egg shells in to dust- as fine as possible or leave them bigger and a bit gritty? Just trying to work out the best for the worms.
I'm glad you like it. Typically we grind to a rough sandy texture but that will include larger and finer chunks here and there. My logic follows; 3mm is the screen size I use for mostly pure casting so shell pieces smaller than 3mm should be "passable" 🙈 by the worms
what temp and how long to roast egg shells?
@@SurvivedaResetGreat question. What I typically do is put them on the bottom shelf of the over whilst cooking an evening meal and leave them in there to cool over night
@@thegreenerlife Thank you. I live in Hawaii and hardly touch the oven. But I decided to try letting it sit out in the hot sun for a day then ... love your shaker idea
@@SurvivedaReset there is a chemical reaction that happens when you toast/roast the egg shell to a light brown which is beneficial. Maybe consider throwing them into a fire for 30 mins or so 👍
I love the calcium shaker idea!
Nice worm ball. 🪱
