The Blue, Green & Red "Stop Lines" were Hastily Constructed in 1940 following the evacuation of the BEF "British Expeditionary Force" From Dunkirk.
These Lines of Defence made use of Natural Barriers such as Canals, Rivers and Railway Embankments, Combined with Pillboxes, Anti-Tank Ditches and Obstacles, a formidable Defence against an Expected German Invasion was implemented.
These "Stop Lines" as they were Known, were designed to do Exactly that, Stop the Enemy in its Tracks Long Enough for our Forces to Counter Attack and Drive Back the Enemy Armour and Men. Thanks to the Bravery of the"Few" the Battle Of Britain was won, forcing Hitler to call off "Operation Sealion" the Invasion of Britain.
Many of these Artifacts still survive Today, mostly in very good condition, however is some cases extremely difficult to locate. The Aim of this Channel is to Discover and Document as many of these surviving Relics as possible.

Greetings from Cornwall
Thank you for the shout out 👍👍
Well done my friend very interesting 👍👍
👍👍
Thank you for putting this out there when you did. I had one day left on my Severn/Solent rail rover, so had a trip up there, from Southampton, on Monday. Great place to visit. Cheers 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you.The doorway would have had a door in it. Not open like now.
@@jeffreycarson3183 thanks for the information. Do you have an idea of how the door was constructed/hinged. I'll check out for evidence of fixings on the next Type24 I visit 🙏
@@WalkingWild56 Not as such but I read of a home guard member recalling that they locked the door when not in use.
Very interesting Andrew-Thank you I have a real WW2 secret that relates to this -Amazing to say the least and in Somerset ( Well just)
@@jameswalksinhistory3848 Interesting James. Catch up soon and you can divulge your secrets 🙏😊
Great video with loads of local interest-Thank you Andrew ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thanks James 🙏
Those benches/piers inside are the rear support points for a bren gun tripod. Even though this area floods considerably the pillboxes often sit just above the flood line.
@@philipbellew9645 brilliant, thank you and thanks for viewing my videos, much appreciated 😊
Top video
The piece of machinery is to wind tight wires in a fence.
Not quite sure what you mean?
@@WalkingWild56 The upright metal post probably has cogs in it and there would have been a handle to turn them to wratchet fence wires tight.
@@jeffreycarson7957 Ah with you now, I'd forgotten about that, to many video's in my head. Thanks for the explanation, it just seemed an odd place for it?
That’s quite a large bat! Lovely find!
@@howardyardy1263 any idea of the species from the short clip?
Often wondered about that tower off the Melksham bypass -Can you go up it ? Anyway a great video my friend -Thank you !
@@jameswalksinhistory3848 I didn't ask tbh, looking at it not sure I'd want to 😊
I have walked this area many times-Really enjoyed this thank you Andrew
I may be wrong. But I seem to remember your first cylinder being at the top of the footpath that goes up to the top/besides the tunnel? 🤔
@@SirTotts Thank you, it has to be there somewhere, I'll check it out 👍
Discovered you by accident on a Facebook pillbox group. Hope your channel does well and can't wait till you cover stop lines near me.
Look forward to that, where are you based?
Great video Andrew totally enjoyed-I have cycled and walked that section many times -The next time I will have to stop and look 👍👍
Thanks James 😊
Totally enjoyed Andrew-I have also posted on my FB History group 👍👍
Totally enjoyed your walk Andrew and the history included within your content 👍
Wonderful video. I have a pal named Andy Bathe. Work running a road crew. Definitely a U.K. Decent family name. Like Dredge, it has meaning. Like dredging a Canal. Families' names lead to what we call different things or, like, Cooper became your name because it was your trade to make a living. It makes life interesting.
I remember the suspension bridge from my walk along the K&A a few years back. It is interesting to hear some of the background to it. Thanks as usual Andy.
@@grahamstroud6217 my pleasure 🙏
Totally enjoyed this Andrew I have posted this on our FB History group !
@@jameswalksinhistory3848 thank you James 😊
will moor up and have wander next time we go through, hopefully on a sunny day. interesting presentation, thankyou.
Thanks Paul 😊
Interesting video, the second pill box used to be accessible before the farmer limited access. I live in Semington but have never noticed the mounts for the vertical rails before. Thanks for educating us.
@@IanPothecary-dx1jd thank you 😊
Met you whilst walking my noisy dog that day. Good video.
@@wedge626 I remember, thank you 😊
Great video totally enjoyed
It's a lovely walk there! We've explored a few pill boxes. That area does have plenty! Most interesting one was next to a farm. Big windows for a big gun!
I went to school in the 70s in Axminster, at the bottom of the school field was a concrete pillbox & 4 or 5 concrete tank traps
Thank you for the feedback 🙏
A walk I have completed many times-With the WW2 history you brought to life-I will look at this walk differently in the future-Thank you
Thanks James 😊
Great stuff!
Getting better 😊
Totally enjoyed this and being local to me I have subscribed 👍👍
Thank you James, I enjoy your videos also, so much to discover 😊
Did the Allied forces strap landmines to the headgehogs like the Germans did at the beaches
Good question, I'm not sure, I will look into it and let you know, thanks for reaching out 👍
European countries preserve history. It is wonderful for the young to see things like this. It’s living history.
