Run isn´t perfect at all for all means, excuses aside I was doing all kinds of typing on my phone, instagram backup however doesn´t save the chat, wich was the best part honestly.

    Hello Emilio, thanks for great video! I'm definitely will try those )) Some odd question: i do stamina exercises for 5 min, returning to drums after 15 year break. Playing heel up, trying to nail the proper ankle motion.I started to notice that my right foot is actually weaker than my left foot (very weird!) while playing consistent 8th single notes, as well as 16th notes. For example at 165 bpm I don't feel any pressure or discomfort in left foot, but when I switch to right foot after a minute or two I experience a nervous twitching in the leg, as well as different stroke volume while executing this exercise. I manage to play the exercise till the time runs out but it happens at ANY speed, even at 100 bpm. I'm very frustrated about that, as never experienced twitching before break. What can you advise in this case? Thanks in advance, and have a great day!

    • @almadaestudios
      @almadaestudios Рік тому

      Hey brother! I´ve only experienced twitching at lower speeds when I used to ONLY practice faster stuff like 210-220, then when I would go back to slow stuff I would twich by unnecessarlly getting the ankles envolved and botch it up, mainly because my muscle memory was all taken up with the "fast twitching" of higher speeds. Had to go back and re-learn the motions of lower bpms. In your case, at 165 I´m not sure what tecnique you are using but you should (and take this with a grain of salt, it´s just my personal view) only use full leg motion, no ankle involved whatsoever (ankles locked) before you hit 170. If even so there is a twich, I´d check if you´re sitting properly or have proper balance, if not, that can be the culprit. Or just exhaustion settling in, or just being in the failure zone of the exercise (no one can keep going foverer). Let me know how you progress, cheers and have a good weekend!!

    Hello, great exercises. I have one question though . Can you tell me more about ankle motion? My left leg is trash and It feels like does not belong to my body when play with it. For higher BPM or triplets i lose control over my legs.

    • @almadaestudios
      @almadaestudios Рік тому

      Hi Andjelo! great question. First off you need to realize that different drummers have different aproaches, so take what I´m about to say with a grain of salt because it is my opinion only and not a scientific fact. For me ankle motion is the same as dribbling a basketball: you use control and also use the momentum of the beater itself, never losing contact with the footboard of course. All the muscles involved are below the knee, so it´s important to have a good balance in your drum seat, hence these "balance" exercises. Let me know if you need some clarification on this. Have a great day!!

      @@almadaestudios Hello Emidio. Thanks for the answer. I saw the adjustment of the chair, as well as trying the warm-ups on this video and it helped a lot. I noticed that my left leg only needs a lot of practicing, especially for the triplets. I tried faster BPM with ankle, and I did it but i cannot keep it for longer time. I have a Mapex double bass drum pedal P980A. But for some reason, and maybe this is ok, it is a really hard pedal. Can it have somthing to do with this because I have not played on other double pedals? Thanks in advance, Andjelo.

    I have problems with stamina, I ll try this.

    • @almadaestudios
      @almadaestudios 2 роки тому

      for stamina, start with these exercises, then do this: (you can change the bpms according to your level, higher or lower) -10 minutes rising up from 150bpm until you reach 200 rest 1min -3 minutes 200bpm rest 1min -1,5 mins 205 bpm rest 1min -1 min 210 bpm rest 1min -30 secs 215 bpm rest 1min -4/8 bars of 220 bpm. That´s it. And twice a month, choose a "lower" bpm and do 20 mins. I do 30 mins of 180bpm. But If your level is lower than 170 atm, then don´t do this one, because there is no point in playing 20 mins of 140 bpms, it´s full leg motion and it won´t do much to help with faster speed stamina. Cheers!

    Man, double bass drumming is the most soulcrushing thing ever! The amount of hours you have to put in with very very little progress... absolutely brutal! -__-

    • @almadaestudios
      @almadaestudios 2 роки тому

      I know dude! it´s very unforgiving. Worst thing is the more you progress, the more you have to keep your muscle memory in check. I´ve taken a huge break of 9 months, and my endurance has reduced 50%. Well, drumming is almost a sport I guess hahaha

    • @prod_adrian
      @prod_adrian 2 роки тому

      @@almadaestudios Oh yes man, so many emotions that get triggered throughout the progress... anger, hate, depression, distress! Sometimes it seems like its not even meant for me to play 200bpm on feet... & at this point of extreme drumming it definitely is like a sport, very demanding! Any tips for me? I can only do 135bpm 8ths seperated and 125bpm both together... i practise everyday with click and various patterns. All full leg motion for now, waiting for clean 140bpm to be playable and then start ankle motion.

    • @almadaestudios
      @almadaestudios 2 роки тому

      @@prod_adrian of course, lots of tips! I´m a big advocate of balance being the key for it all, so it begs the first question: how are you sitting? if you lift both your legs, can you balance yourself, or do you immediately fall over?

    • @prod_adrian
      @prod_adrian 2 роки тому

      @@almadaestudios I think balance is a big problem for me, thats probably the reason why i have to go slower when playing with both feet together (legs/feet not grounded to floor) than seperated. And for throne position, basically like what Marthyn or James Payne recommend. Pretty far back on the throne, so i can tap with the ankle but also you full leg for drive. I dont fall over but i can also sense its not comfortable for me either (yet). I used to play heeldown when i was a child so the lack of anchor to the ground was a very different feel for me starting the full leg motion. I had like hip flexor muscle soreness the first weeks, because the change of movement. thank you man

    • @almadaestudios
      @almadaestudios 2 роки тому

      @@prod_adrian the biggest issue is taking everything with a grain of salt. Everybody is different, so recommendations are always to be taken with care. Not everyone reacts the same to the same type of practice. What I'd recommend for sure is to work on balance. At speeds until 16th notes of 160bpm I wouldn't even worry about hip flexors or whatnot. I'd just go for it, you can go full leg caveman motion easilly. From 175 or so, that's when ankle play has to get involved in order to maintain endurance. In any case,enjoy your practice! As a rule of thumb, I'd do workouts of 10 mins (straight) of a comfortable tempo, 5 mins a bit faster, And 1 minute on a bpm close to your max. Rinse and repeat, the only changes are the bpm, that hopefully keep getting higher and higher. Also remember progression is not achieved daily, sometimes it takes a year for you to notice

      Hey dude, first of all thank you so much for watching and commenting the video! Let me ask the important questions first: what technique are you using for 150/160 double bass? I presume it´s full leg, right?

    • @ja-sl6vt
      @ja-sl6vt 3 роки тому

      @@almadaestudios I use something between leg and ankle motion. When I play 120 bpm my legs are moving at all, but about tempos 150 it is just small move with full legs, but ankles are moving much more.

       @ja So 2 things for me. first i´d say ankle motion should not be involved in speeds lower than 165 bpm, but of course there is no rule. it just feels HARDER to use them than to not use them. second, I´d change up your routine because the 15 min 2 bpm increase wont work forever, once you reach 220 bpms, you will start to hit major brick walls. I´d try this instead: - 5 mins of X bpm -3min of X + 10 bpm -1min of X +20 bpm -30 secs of MAX speed possible where X is a bpm of your choice that you feel you can start with. Let me know how this went!

    • @ja-sl6vt

Anyway, thanks again for everything, I hope it would help and I will let you if it works.

      @@almadaestudioshi bro, I am in intermediate level drumming, I have been struggling with double bass for last one and half year... My progress is keep on varying from 200 to 240, unable to cross a little higher tempos, I couldn't figure out the reason still...I play heel-toe and sometimes slide technique also... it's taking a very long time to get a tiny progress...I came know that ankle technique will help to reach higher tempos..I will start soon..any guidance of ankle technique for good beginning from your side sir? Thank you👍 by the way, you are an awesome drummer, great control, speed, flexibility and power...I love you stuff

      @@almadaestudios I have one more question, I have no problem with hands, if I play only pedals then my balance is good, but if I play both hands and foot then my balance is not good on drum throne to play around the kit...any suggestion for balancing body?

      @@sreenivasgani7563 thank you for your kind words my friend! Well, dont be discouraged: it takes a long time. You will feel stuck for months, even a year, and then suddenly, you make progress. The exercises in this vídeo are preety good for developing the balance inherent to playing ankles, But, there is nothing wrong with using heeltoe. I cant play singles for a long time for more than 230bpms,so I also use heeltoe for faster stuff. Just keep praticing, you will be flying in no time! Thank u for commenting

    Okay, I’m not about to be able to do the last part of the warmup lol. How do you play so fast but also consistent notes and no accidental foot flams?

    • @almadaestudios
      @almadaestudios 3 роки тому

      Well if tou re talking about Sound consistency, well there s a bit of processing to help level out volumes (nothing wrong with that, every show you see has that going on). As for note separation, well I focus on the note that is on the beat, and then do my best for the oposite notes to be clean in order to create a good subdivision. But hey, on higher bpms I also flam and have less consistency, so dont feel bad, its a process, always. Have fun practicing, thanx for watching!
