    Respected sir, being undisputedly the greatest grammarian of this generation, you are earnestly entreated with folded hands to let me know the difference between the two sentences and also enlighten me a bit as to which of the two sentences would be the more appropriate -The passengers of the train were sleeping when the accident took place Vs The passengers of the train had been sleeping when the accident took place.

    We cannot use the negative form after unless, no?

    • @donnahoffman5384
      @donnahoffman5384 Рік тому

      I teach ESL. I'll give you my opinion. I don't think there is a specific rule for this, but, it's true, we usually use an affirmative. Let's try a few sentences. "I will see you next week unless my daughter has her baby." // "I will see you next week unless I can't get my car fixed." Hmmm. That is okay, but we might usually say, "I won't see you next week if my car doesn't get fixed." Hope this helps.

    Thank you so much for your video. Can you explain, if "me and Maco" is Subject, so "I and Maco" is a subject, too? What is the difference between them? And one more thing, "With somebody" is a part of the "how" right? Is the sentence correct "I read books in the library everyday with my friends"? (Who What Where When How)? Thank you for your time.

    • @donnahoffman5384
      @donnahoffman5384 Рік тому

      I am a teacher of ESL for adults with a Masters Degree. If it's OK, I'll try to respond. For the subject position, you must use "Maco and I". #1- use the subject pronoun, not "me". #2- for some reason, we never put the "I" first in such a phrase. Your statement in the second part was correct. Good work! Interesting question.
