Lyrics:
On any given Sunday
The saints are in the pews
They sing their songs and say, “Amen”
As the preacher brings good news
They gather ‘round the altar
And call on Jesus’ name
He never fails to meet them there
Lives are always changed
But on any given Thursday night
Down a creaky flight of stairs
Through a door that never shuts just right
In some worn-out folding chairs
There’s a different kind of desperate
Most folks never see
And if you think what happens upstairs is amazing
Wait until you see what He’s been doing in the basement
There ain’t a lot of shouting
Much less suits and ties
Cheap coffee and the smell of smoke
Some coming off a high
“Hello, my name is so-and-so”
“Hello, we’re glad you came”
And just like that, this worn-out room
Becomes a holy place
‘Cause on any given Thursday night
Down a creaky flight of stairs
Through a door that never shuts just right
In some worn-out folding chairs
There’s a different kind of desperate
Most folks never see
And if you think what happens upstairs is amazing
Wait until you see what He’s been doing in the basement
If you’ve never seen a miracle
I can tell you where they meet
I know at least a dozen
And you know one now
‘Cause you know me
On any given Thursday night
Down a creaky flight of stairs
Through a door that never shuts just right
In some worn-out folding chairs
There’s a different kind of desperate
Most folks never see
And if you think what happens upstairs is amazing
Yeah, we all know what happens upstairs is amazing
But wait until you see what He’s been doing in the basement
What He’s doing in the basement

The story behind my new song The Basement
Переглядів 9 тис.Рік тому
The story behind my new song The Basement is very personal, as many of you know. It's a tough road to navigate the trenches of addiction and the work that it takes to overcome it. I wrote this song to share the work that God is doing in those basements of churches and the miracles that transform because of His faithfulness. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, please share t...

Just saw him perform tonight at the Ark Encounter, what a great voice!
Wow. With tear filled eyes, I don't know what to say. Thank you for this song.
6/21/94 - a blender mixed with drugs & alcohol designed to end it all, and a shotgun on the couch with a round in the chamber and the safety off (that I had practiced dry firing for a month) if the drugs & alcohol didn't work. Then God sent angels with badges and guns to my door. After time in county, I met those men & women in the basement. I'm grateful for all of God's miracles and the tools He uses. This past June was 30 years of freedom from active addiction, thanks to those miracles God performs in those basements ❤
131 days today but for the grace of God. I attend Celebrate Recovery, which is essentially AA but specifically for the Christian faith. ODAAT thank you Lord for everything 🙏 💖
The beautiful song reminds me of my Tuesday nights in the basement. It has saved my life for many years. My higher power God carries me everyday.
I have only just found you & I’m loving what I hear! Just added your albums on Apple Music!
Hey Joseph..👋👌
Beautiful
I love all of your songs and when I went to your concert at the church it was amazing
Wow. Very cool and point on!
Hey my name is James and I'm an addict. I've been clean 15 months today. Praise God for the gift of recovery.
I love this song it’s on my playlist I listen to everyday thanks for sharing your testimony with the world❤
13 months!!!
Yes amen Joseph
43 years in recovery...thank you!
This song reminds me of a meeting I would attend that was actually called 'The Basement Meeting' for obvious reasons. I was in and out of the rooms of recovery, treatment centers, and just broken until I surrendered my life to Jesus and found a program called Strength in Recovery (12 steps for Christians). I am 1 year 2 months and 10 days clean and sober and counting and never going back to that person I once was. I know that God has a plan for me, he loves me, and that I will honor and praise him until I see him face to face. Thank you for a beautiful song. Miracles do happen. I am one of them!
Hey Joseph I Am Your Favorite Person And I Love Your Videos And I Watch You in Singing News And You Say The Blood Of Jesus And I Turn 18 And I Am Happy Love Stephen Joe Earnest 😊😊
"1 hour room becomes a holy place."
Thanks man! I have been asked that same question over and over, WHY you’re STILL TALKING ABOUT YOUR PAST ADDICTION?? If THE LORD SET YOU FREE, you’re free in deed, but I always answer, The Lord set me free from the bondage of my addictions and now 15 years later still breaking my heart watching people that I love in captivity, they are hooked on drugs, alcohol, lust , pornography and other sins that was on, SO NOW, IM USING MY TESTIMONY TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THE LORD STILL INTERESTED IN THEM, HE WANTS TO SAVE THEM AND SET THEM FREE. SO PLEASE DO NOT STOP TESTIFYING!! God bless you!!!
A beautiful song, touches my heart....😢
My goodness this song!! I have been clean for 25 years! Now I'm teaching women at an outreach on Thursdays!!! I heard this song for the 1st time today and I was literally doing the ugly cry! Thank you for this song! God is truly working on our Thursdays ❤❤❤ Glory to God!!
My favorite ❤
You keep telling your story!
I'm so thankful to hear you sing last night. And especially that song. What a perfect song for you and all the people who were there that were God's miracles. Keep testifying! Praying for you!
Hearing you singing this at Marengo last night, was so powerful! I thank God for where He has brought you from to where you are today. You give me hope for my brother. I firmly believe every trial we go through is there to teach us or help others. May God bless you.
I picked up my last white chip in a basement 11 1/2 years ago. I haven't regretted a moment since. There but for the Grace of God go I.
I just got back from a his concert at church. He is absolutely amazing! He is so talented and touched by God. This song brought tears to my eyes. Thank you, Joseph!
Thank you for that song!!!
So glad I found this! 19+ years here and sharing your beautiful song with others in the rooms. It’s amazing how God works through people and allows our pain to give us purpose. You’ve certainly found yours!❤
4 years in recovery soon, god willing. Thank you for holding the group in such high regard. Made me cry, it’s touching to hear us represented in a beautiful light through this song
God bless you, Joseph 🙏
I'm a mom of a recovering addict and he has told me some of the things in your song! I love the song and can truly relate to it! I'm proud of him and you! God bless you!
I went to soooo many AA meetings with my parents years ago. The difference was - this was a group that were not affiliated with a Christian church or group, so they were never ministered to from the Christian approach. They went on years later, after being born again, to finally conquer their addictions, but I have to say that they were never able to conquer their addiction through AA without that Christian influence and teaching. Some do - they did not.
I’m a life that has been Changed! Praise God! I pray for all that have been deceived to head down the empty road of Addiction! Only Fullness of Joy! Life! And Hope can be found in Jesus!! Take just one step to Him and He is already running to You!
My bestie just shared this with me. This gave me tears!! I immediately pictured the underground church, secretly meeting to share the Gospel and encourage one another in the face of death and persecution. Believe it or not the fastest growing church is the world is the underground church in Iran. The Holy Spirit is moving mightily around the Middle East, and the “Upstairs”, aka America, can learn a lot from our persecuted brothers and sisters. Persecution is knocking on our door as we near His return.
Yes, but that's not what this song is about... Do you catch the meaning of the song?
Such an awesome song of showing God can work anywhere!! Thank you Joseph for sharing this video!!☝️☝️
9 years great song touched my heart
Thank you Joseph for sharing your story!! I saw you on stage in Gatlinburg in 2023. What little bit i know of your story ministers to me, THANK YOU!!! ☝️☝️

Such a moving, beautiful song. 30+ years of recovery and faces in meetings washed over me listening to this song....I wept with gratitude!
Awesome, very moving!

_Glory to God. It's the same place I found the Savior...behind that red door down those steps. I'm a grateful recovered alcoholic, my names Kimberly & I just celebrated my 23rd year of continued sobriety this past June 4, 2023. Maranatha_
Been there. Amen Joseph great words and music
I’m a grateful believer in Jesus Christ who celebrates recovery. This song is totally CR.
Truly a beautiful song. The words are piercing - the work put into these meetings for addiction does provide miracles, hope, love and acceptance. God is ever present. Thank you for this song sung with such passion. Well done sir!!❤
This song reminds me of 32 plus years ago. My first steps in recovery.
