Unfiltered lives : The Other Side
United Kingdom
Приєднався 2 лис 2014
This channel is dedicated to those who want to share their story.
The channel has taken inspiration from Soft White Underbelly. UA-cam channel I watch quite often, I thought wouldn't it be good to produce British version.
I start this channel off with my own story, in the hope of sending a message to you, that it's ok to let the world know who you are. We all have voice, we all have our own stories.
I was alcoholic from my first drink, went on path of trying to destroy my life and those I loved, only through act of God do I believe I finally managed to get the help I needed, finally start my path of recovery
I was sick of being sick, I wanted to die. From somewhere deep in my soul, I reached out there was hope 🙏 ✨️
I want to hear from you. Please get in touch to share your story

Mental health, bullying, body dismorphia, and cosmetics surgery
Leanne lives in Redcar. As a child she was quite shy, but loved gymnastics and dancing. Despite her boisterousness, Leanne suffered bullying at Secondary School and had to change schools.
Leanne’s bullying centred on her appearance. Whilst Leanne contrived to exude an air of cool indifference to the taunts she received, inwardly she was naturally upset by them.
The bullying negatively biased Leanne’s inner narrative, causing her to become self-critical and skewing her perception of the way she truly looked. She believed the insults and thought of herself as ugly. It was a damaging circular thought process prompted by the projected insecurities of Leanne’s peers.
After leaving school, Leanne worked as a cleaner to support herself while she undertook a health and safety qualification, which eventually led to a career in that field.
A relationship break-up in her mid-twenties triggered a train of thinking which led Leanne to embark on the first of a series of cosmetic surgeries, which she felt might improve her self-confidence, but Leanne felt a degree of shame attached to the procedures. She made the excuse that the first procedure, a lip lift, was undertaken to repair facial damage incurred during an accident, rather than reveal her true cosmetic motives.
A later operation to restructure Leanne’s jaw left her with a sinus infection, which resulted in further surgery.
With hindsight, Leanne recognises that her cosmetic surgeries were unnecessary and that her thinking at the time was distorted, but in spite of the safeguards in place, she was able to indulge her appetite for reconstruction without hindrance.
It was only recently that a conversation with a friend triggered memories of Leanne’s childhood bullying, enabling her to reflect on the repressed trauma and link it to her subsequent surgeries.
Leanne clearly has a deep insight into her own experiences and thinking, which is obviously the result of a great deal of introspection and meditation.
Leanne describes her recovery as a removal of masks; it’s a wonderful analogy in the circumstances - the discarding of pretence in favour of honesty, where true beauty undoubtedly resides.
If there is ugliness to be found in this story, it is in the need of some individuals to put others down in order to feel better about themselves. One encounters such situations in life, but they can be particularly devastating in childhood.
Changing the narrative of a lifetime is neither a quick nor easy process; it requires a determined resolve to return to one’s true path, and the terrain is tough, but Leanne’s progress speaks for itself.
To her childhood self, Leanne offers these words: “You are beautiful… your happiness is important…and nothing you do could make me love you any less… and don’t let the words of other people dictate how you’re going to be in life.”
What a beautiful note to end on.
Thank you Leanne for your honesty and your uplifting contribution.

Thugs to Drugs. I took what I wanted
Or what a story and how brave is Leanne for opening up in the hope it helps others. Im only up the road from Dormanstown and we are very lucky to have the beach and also the hills close to us. I went up Eston Hills on monday for the first time in ages as i am really trying my best to stay clean. Getting into the routine of walking and embracing nature was a massive factor in my recovery previously. However i ended up getting out of the routine and went right back over. Hopefully the walk the other day is the start of the recovery process again as we can only strive to learn from our mistakes. Our area is struggling massively with mental health issues yet we have one of the best natural assets all around us. Top content again and i genuinely hope Leanne keeps going the way she is, keep these coming mate.
@oddy532 Thank you for your beautiful comment. Keep putting one foot in front of the other, as you said, embrace nature and, more importantly, embrace your well myself, my friend xx

I’ve got to say I’m proper proud of how far you’ve come and the things you’ve achieved my mate. Community links is going from strength to strength and they is no one better to help people on the Road to recovery than you and Craig. Keep up the Good work mate
