I know that was a TB5 in the bridge of the Duncan loaded guitar, but the SH-5 & SH-6 pickups from Duncan sound really good boosted with a Boss SD-1. I have a JB in the bridge of my Edwards Les Paul and the SD-1 really tightens up the low end of the JB and takes it straight into active pickup territory in the sense that the SD-1 gets rid of all that loose low end that the pickup is usually known for and bumps up the mids to where you can hear every note from your guitar ring out perfectly. I kinda wonder how good the X2N sounds boosted with the SD-1. I’d assume it would really sound like an active pickup if you set the gain at 0 and the level at 12:00 on the pedal, which is how i usually set up my SD-1 because it acts more like a mid boost when you set it up like that, and in regards to the high end frequencies, you could probably dial in the tone pot on the pedal to taste to account for the extra high end you’d get from the pedal alone, but with that tightening of the low end i have no doubt that the X2N would be able to compete with an EMG 81 or any similarly designed passive rail pickup wether they be passive or active any day of the week.
