Digital Twinning - Next Level!
Video no. 200
In celebration of reaching a grand total of 200 videos (!), I have created a video of some R&D work. This is purely an exploration of game engine capabilities using GIS data.
The data (buildings/roads) come from OpenStreetMap.
Thanks to Dave Pearson for all his hard work on the terrain and 3D Models. The wheelie bins are particularly awesome :)
This demo has no specific business requirement being met - it is just about the art of the possible....some ideas of how to use a game engine to take Digital Twinning to the next level. It's me "throwing stuff out there", touching upon multiple industry sectors.
At the end of the day, you need good quality data (no change there then!) and most importantly.... a clear business requirement. It is only with nailed requirements can you choose which gaming engine to use and there are many! Some are more focussed on simulation/realism and others more on gameplay. So choose wisely. We can help with that.
You will need GIS skillz too. We can help with that too :)
Thanks for watching and have a great Christmas and New Year.
Doug

ArcGIS OnLine/Portal - Pie Chart Clusters (WebMap)
Переглядів 183Місяць тому
Video no. 199 In this video I demonstrate how to create clusters using pie charts. I use some bus stop data downloaded from an open data website in the UK: beta-naptan.dft.gov.uk/download/la It has over 9,000 records and the pie chart data gives a much more user friendly and analytical way of rendering all those points. The two colours represent Active/Inactive bus stops.

Video no. 196 In this video I show you some basic python to connect to AGOL or Portal. This video does not show config of python environment/Visual Studio. You could change the type to look in Dashboards etc. I use a standard Notebook where I am already logged onto host platf...
AGOL/Portal Check for Items not updated for a year with Notebook

Video no. 194 In this short video I demonstrate how to check all content (on Portal/AGOL) that has not been updated for a year. I also show how to change that to 6 months/a week/one month using timedelta. It could be an error if a data set has not been updated for a year or it may be that the dataset is simply not being used at all. Whichever the case, its a housekeeping job to review and resol...

    I want some information about MapInfo pro. Tool windows>mapbasic. Could I write code in mapbasic and automate my works? I need it for generating the border of provinces for RF planning.

    • @GISCoordinated
      @GISCoordinated День тому

      You can but also note that a workspace is code too - runs like a macro. So you can use that to set up your environment/windows etc. For mapbasic itself, might be best to search for examples on UA-cam that could help you. But note that the samples are pretty good to get you started.

    Thank you so much, I have a question please, how can I synchronize data from ArcGIS enterprise to ArcGIS online?

    • @GISCoordinated
      @GISCoordinated День тому

      If you are an FME user, then its relatively straightforward in that the transformers are there for you. With python, its a little more convoluted as you want to sync the two data sets. One way is perhaps to look at webhooks/triggers where when an update is done to an arcgis server then fire off python to cover off those changes (add, delete, update) You could also publish a view of your enterprise data to AGOL - thats 'very' realtime and probably the easiest way. Another area to look at is replication - check out this link: pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/data/geodatabases/overview/geodatabase-replication-fundamentals.htm Hope that helps!

    It would be great to see a video on this topic that starts a map without graphics. When starting without any graphics the graphic tab is missing and I've needed to go elsewhere to understand how to get started "from scratch".

      Although I could have created a link to the game engine, as R&D, I just had the 3D engine running already. So swapped windows. No reason why a link couldn't work bothways i.e. in the 3D fire an action that sets the Google street view position and vice versa. Just a bit further info on this..... it was a mix of Blender, Mapinfo and QGIS to format/build layers of geo-data for the Real Virtuality 4 game engine. That was followed by a substantial amount of detailing work such as adding wheelie bin models (created in Blender) and lots of other objects such as the cars. The interactivity that takes place is via custom scripts. The houses themselves were created in Blender too. A fair amount of complexity involved with those models to make sure doors open and windows are breakable. The entire houses are also fully destructable. Not easy to do!

      How could we design a whole city with digital twins? Use json, Atoll, MapInfo, etc? Please help and guide me about it.

    • @GISCoordinated
      @GISCoordinated День тому

      @@AzadeAbedy A lot of time and funding is needed to do it properly. It would be a substantial project requiring ......requirements gathering (exactly what do you want to do with that digital city? Who are the users? Any security implications?...etc etc) .... technology decisions via Architectural/Technical Design .... putting together the appropriate team which would not just be GIS devs but also modellers (Blender experts for example) ...infrastructure to run it all.... But it all starts with requirements. You mention Atoll - that for mobile network planning? If thats your main requirement then that affects size of team, their skillsets, choice of base platform. A lot there I'm afraid. We could assist though as a project, if needed.

    Where do you pull most of your datasets from? i know arcgis online has some to pull from but say i want to project a layer that shows a specific statistic like rural areas in my area. Or do i have to snap that myself? im having a difficult time finding data not necessarily manipulating it once its loaded to my map.

    I'm a beginner on arcGIS. What is the benefit of doing geoprocessing this way over doing it all in arcGIS? Maybe in a more complex example the benefit would become more apparent, but I'm struggling to understand why you would do it this way.

    • @GISCoordinated
      @GISCoordinated 2 місяці тому

      Its true that my demo only has a small amount of data but when it comes to processing large amounts of data you are typically better off taking advantage of a dedicated database environment. In certain environments e.g. large corporates, you will find that the database infrastructure is far more powerful than your local PC or network drive where a geodatabase or shapefile may be residing. Also, if you have a cloud-based solution e.g. AWS with a database hooked up, why not offload complex or big data querying to that environment, freeing up your local device? The total database approach also gives you access to many more tools e.g. auditing, security and falls in line with corporate CyberSec strategy. It also means that you can take advantage of highly skilled DB folks who may not necessarily be geospatial experts but can definitely assist when it comes to things like optimising your queries or managing GRANTs. So it all comes down to what do you want to achieve i.e. business requirements. The video is simply show the possible. I hope the above info helps.
