Our vehicle, called a seaglider, is an all-electric, wing-in-ground-effect craft that operates within a wingspan of the water's surface and couples the speed of an airplane with the operating cost of a boat. Built to the same safety standards as all modern aircraft and watercraft, ...

All EVs should be wrapped in flexible solar panels. I know that the solar panels only represent a fraction of the energy needed to charge the batteries. But why no exploit that fraction? Seems like a waste considering all that light reflecting off the water.
Fines all of New York cause it's an apple
Fun fact, in New Zealand, apples aren’t allowed in New Zealand airports so the fact it’s air “New Zealand” landing in the big apple is amazingly ironic
TSA agent won!
Hey im a pianist and i was wondering as a traveler if i could play on that piano, im going to new york and i wanted to play at the jfk airport, so can i?

World's longest domestic flight, from Oslo to Queen Maud Land.
no, Paris-Papeete is longer
Stunning capture! May I feature this landing in one of my next episodes? Of course with a link back to your original video. All the best to you!

It's not a US-2, it's not an AG600 and it's definitely not a WIG. (Too overpowered and too high aspect ratio) It's not a motor glider as well. What is this thing? It looks like a fun way to chase grant money. That wing... Oy!

Kei te pai Air NZ😊
Awesome! Beste Grüße aus Deutschland 🤩
If theres ever a long flight I would want to be on its definitely flying with air NZ and no other their track record is spotless and the service is the best
every time i have flown with air nz the service has been terrible, cabin crew has been grumpy and the food aint the best
Amphibious pilot here. Being unable to leave open waters is extremely limiting to your mission flexibility. Can’t legally fly under a bridge. This can’t fly over a bridge. Can’t fly to an airport. So water to water only and no cities with bridges before the ramp (I.E. Tampa Bay). Almost exclusively salt water ops - which, no matter how much composite you use, eats airplanes, is usually larger waves, long period waves (swells) are more dangerous to land on. Plus, frankly, underwater fins to get on the step are extremely susceptible to damage. Salt water ops are highly demanding on pilots and planes. I don’t see wheels yet. Without ramping ability, this thing will be a nightmare to dock.
I don't know if the concept will work. But a few of the problems you point out are a bit questionable. Lots of float plans operate without anphib floats, lots go dock to dock, how is operating from a dock rather than using a ramp a "nightmare"?
I think Air New Zealand should starting making A380s to meet more demands of 17 hour flights, you know what I'm saying
no 350's are more needed for a route this long
@@brianaviation3072 just hope it will have more seats and legroom for a long 17 hour journey. Otherwise we'll up having a few passengers needing wheelchairs upon landing lol
@@justinsingh221A380 fuel burn would be insane on a 17 hour flight your out of your damn mind
@@whoru9717 Emirates A380 still does 17 hours flights from Auckland to Dubai
Too long. I would just find it so uncomfortable. Around 14 hours is my limit & that is hard going

AGREED. REALLY SAD WITH THE LACK OF THANKFULNESS FOR THE SAFE JOURNEY.

A shame the route is proving so challenging, but the plane is right on the raggedy edge of what's possible (but still completely safe). I want this route to succeed, as I'm sick of all the "hErR DeRr uLtRa LoNg HAuL fLYiNg iS So iNnefFicIENt HuRr DuRr"

#Pfffft. The "real" NZ1/NZ2 was Auckland-LAX-London Heathrow-Los Angeles-Auckland on a Rolls Royce powered B747-400. I recall that flight fondly.
It was originally London Gatwick but moved to Heathrow in the late 1990s. I flew on it in 1994. And it lasted in total from both airports for 36 years. Until the pandemic but it was going to be pulled anyway as most people were getting off at Los Angeles.
It may be need a retractile waterfoil, the drag seems to be huge
Hydrofoils create LIFT. They need drag in order to work, but the closer they get to the surface the faster they go because there is less drag on the hull as it clears the water.
The "wow factor" is that it's supposed to fly. It's not flying. Disappointing video.
No flying? This is being promoted as the next big thing in New Zealand where the waves average over a metre year round. A company has ordered 25 apparantly for arrival next year
I'm as clueless as you are but fwiw an article in stuff today states "...the optimal height a seaglider operates above the water is 10 metres - but that can extend up to around 30 to 40 metres."
Yeah this video was a bit of a letdown... Our Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 flys higher than this.
I’m really struggling to see how this will eventuate to a viable reliable option. Check out Erkranoplan - similar idea using ground effect. It didn’t work then, and i from the limited info available I don’t see how they’ve solved the existing issues
But why?
