The 4am Quilter
United States
Приєднався 12 тра 2023
Hello, I’m Angela Davis and I’m the 4am Quilter. The 4am Quilter came about first as a UA-cam Channel called Quilting In The Basement but I decided to change the name since The 4am Quilter aptly describes my routine much better. I don’t use the basement as my sewing room any longer because I have taken over a spare room in my house and it is highly functional for my quilting and sewing.
The women in my family did not make quilts. They did mostly needlework such as crocheting and knitting so I had been exposed and taught to crochet as a young girl. I knew I wanted to learn quilting so I have taken a few classes over the years and here I am teaching and sharing with all of you…join me on this UA-cam journey of sharing, creating and most of all having fun.
Always remember, “why sleep when you can sew!”
My email: angela@the4amquilter.com
My store: www.the4amquilter.com
The store is brand new and I am working very hard to add more patterns, thank you for your patience.

I'm raising my hand with making mistakes with hsts! I get mixed up between two at a time and one at time for the placement of the sewing line!
It is easy to get confused…. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve messed up adding the wrong seam allowance…. Ugh… but we keep on sewing 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Angela, that is so cute. Jack O Lanterns are all different.
That is so true.. thank you… 😊
I just found your channel. I'm excited! I love your personality.
Thank you for the compliments….and thank you for subscribing… 😊🌺😊🌺😊🌺
I bought a Horn of America cutting table and love the height. It folds up to 17 inches. Love the new look!! Love your dog Summer. Looks like she gets the last word. haha
Ooh I’ve never heard of that table.. I will research it… yes Summer is a sweetie but she does like the last word … hahaha
Very nice space.
😊 🌺🌺🌺thanks
I'm also trying to redo my sewing room and want to add pegboard. You mentioned spacers behind the pegboard but didn't show or tell how it was done. I would appreciate this info if you don't mind. Thanks so much.
Ooh … sorry I didn’t include that info… I will be sure to talk about it.. but for general info the spacers can be purchased at any hardware store or online… I bought mine at the local hardware store and they look like little discs .. you place them between the pegboard and the wall.. put the screw through the pegboard and the spacer then screw the bolt in … 🌺🌺hope this helps…. Good luck with your redo it’s so exciting to upgrade 😊😊😊
I like it! Functional and cozy--have a wonderful time creating in your refreshed space!
Thank you…. 😊 🌺🌺🌺🌺
Looks very nice.
Thank you so much…😊😊😊
TY for sharing! Love this!
Thank you for watching and I enjoy the comments 😊🌺😊🌺
Great to see you ! Cannot wait to see the room. Hope you had a good weekend. Blessings my friend.
Hello Annette… I’ve missed all of you too… thank you for the blessings and support…. 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
👋👋 long time no see. Glad okay. It’s always fun reorganizing 😝🤣 My sewing table is an L shape in the corner of room, and I have peg boards on that L shape Absolutely love having things at an easy reach. Give Summer a good scratch behind the ears
L Table.. sounds a great space to sew… I think I’m going to love my pegboard too!!! Summer will enjoy the scratches especially behind the ears….🌺🌺🌺🌺
I love seeing you again. Thank you for such a fun video. I love a swing room reveal. I am hoping that we will get to see your curtains too.
Hello Chritielou.. I’ve missed all of you…. It’s been fun painting and getting “things” ready for the room.. I’m so excited about it…. I hope 🤞 everything works out and the little projects I’ve done all come together nicely…..,thank you as always for your comments and encouragement.. it is much appreciated 😊🌺😊🌺😊🌺

Thank you… I just couldn’t remember that word! 😊😊😊😊😊
Cant go wrong with a 4-patch! I enjoy your style with your videos! I love the simplicity of your blocks.
I love 4 and 9 patches… they are a great block and can be color coordinated or scrappy.. thank you I’m so happy you enjoy my videos…. 😊😊😊😊remember why sleep when you can sew!
Love the big stitch. quilting. It works up fast.
I like it too… it’s so much fun😊😊😊
I use the perle cotton size 8, really like the big thread.
I’ve used different threads before and I don’t have a particular favorite yet.. but I do like the pearl cotton and I plan on exploring different sizes in the future.. thanks for sharing and remember why sleep when you can sew! 🌺🌺🌺
Would you please lower your camera. I would like to see you actually make the stitches, please. I'm a beginner and a visual learner.😄 thx 🙏🇺🇸
Hello Jane.. first I want to say thank you for tuning in and I appreciate you.. yes you are correct I should have adjusted the camera more so my viewers could see better.. I plan on doing more videos about big stitch quilting…. And getting in to the process more deeply..thanks again for watching and happy quilting…🌺🌺🌺🌺
Love the big stitch look.
Thanks🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
checking your UA-cam video as suggested by Brenda from Conquering Mount Scrapmore
Awwww thank you…. 😊
I'm guessing that the original pattern was from a newspaper. That's where my Great grandmother got her quilting patterns. She would not have had money to buy a quilting book. All of her fabrics (other than quilt backs and background fabric) came from old clothes and scraps from dress making.
What wonderful heritage to have that in your family… my grandmother crocheted and knitted… so we were exposed to handwork at young ages… happy quilting 👍🥰
Brenda sent me from her channel! Nice idea to keep a quilt pattern alive since most likely she made her own pattern up--don't you think?
Hello thank you for stopping by and enjoying my video.. yes I think she probably made it up.. for the rest of us to enjoy and create… happy quilting 🌺🌺🌺🌺💐
Those are so pretty! Thanks for sharing.
Welcome… have you ever made a little quilt? 🌺🌺🌺
@@The4amQuilter-eo1dk not yet, but after seeing yours, I'm planning one!
@@DelightfullyDara they are fun to make… your welcome and thanks for your interest💐👍
👋👋 I so want to love handwork but I just don’t. Nice place to hang your mini quilt.
I’ve always admired handwork but didn’t do it much… I’m enjoying it now… just doing small projects… thanks for tuning in…… nice to hear from you😊
Oy Vey 😂 is correct. I have an alarm set on my phone for a 15min “tidy” in the evening. Also I made a habit for myself, as soon as I get home (before changing work clothes) I go to sewing room and do some prep work 10-20min. On my 2days off, I’m usually in the sewing room by 4am. My internal clock wakes me up very early 🤪😩😂😂. Have great week
I like your idea of a “tidy” in the evening.. it feels good to know I’m not the only one who gets up at an early time🙄😆🤣… I will start the tidy in the evening 🌺🌺🌺🌺
Love your videos. I need this reminder as the school year begins and we are finishing a DIY kitchen remodel. Fall is usually where I begin to get back to my sewing room after gardening and summer fun, but this year I was worried that it wasn't going to happen. Now I am going to just try for 15 min. in the morning. If I prep the room each time I leave, I might be able to get things accomplished with little bites of time.
I agree wholeheartedly…. Especially since you’re finishing a kitchen remodel.. don’t overwhelm yourself.. keep it at 15 minutes and see what you’ve accomplished over a few days.. success!!!!!!!🥰💐💐happy sewing Angela
what a great idea
Thank you🥰👍
shoutout from Brenda from Conquering Mt Scrapmore
Thank you 🥰👍🌸
👋👋 I think making a 4th star block, is a great idea. Nice fabric choices for your next block 🤗
Thank you.. have you ever made a sampler before?
@@The4amQuilter-eo1dk Yes, however I made blocks all the same size. I’m making 6-1/2 (finish6) sampler with Sew Blessed by Jess. We have 2 blocks to go. It will be a nice wall or table runner.
@@peggersf9709 ooh it sounds nice…. 👍
Really like your double four patch. Thank you. Dona. 🧵🪡🧵
Thank you it was fun to make🌺🌺
I love this idea! Thanks for sharing 😊
I had fun making it… it drapes over the back of my chair at work.. when I get a bit chilly I put it on my lap.. thank you 🌺🌺
Beautiful quilt. I love your choice of fabric.
Thank you! 😊
👋👋 That’s a piece of art. Gorgeous ❤❤ 🌹
😊😊😊😊😊thank you
❤❤❤
🌺👍💐🥰🌸
Love the bold prints and using black.
Thanks 😊😊😊
Thank you
You are very welcome 🌺👍💐
That's why I love hand sewing(not everything) it is portable! When I glue base, sometimes I'll glue opposite sides. It makes it easier to keep centered.
Thank you for the tip.. and you are very true about hand sewing it is very portable…🌺🥰👍
👋👋 I carry a planner so I can note ideas for quilts or even design (😂) a pattern. I sometime carry a small cross-stitch project. I’m usually home from work around 1:30pm so I try to sew for an hour or so. Have a great weekend
Ooh I love that idea of a planner…and you cross stitch.!!!! I tried needle point once but the bug never bit me.. ironically though I will buy needle arts vintage books bc I enjoy seeing all the designs….happy sewing🥰🌺
Love the colors of those blocks!!!! And that flowered fabric is to die for!!!!!! ❤ SueAnn from Idaho snow country
Thank you.. I’ve been wanting to use this fabric for a while and I’m excited that I finally have a chance to use it… thanks again for sharing and happy quilting…🌺👍
I like the way you made the center the same fabric as the background. I don’t think I ever saw this block made like that.
Thank you I wanted to give you options when deciding on color arrangements… thank you for watching and happy quilting…🌺👍
👋👋 Nice blocks. Like the ⭐️ within a ⭐️. I love book stores. I need to get out to the 1/2price bookstore and look for quilt inspiration. Have a great week.
We love them too… I like the double star too 🌺👍
New viewer and subscriber here, though I've been quilting for a long time. I think I'll look through my fabric stash and sew along with you. Sounds like fun!
Oh how wonderful… thanks for joining in… welcome…🌺💐🌸
So 2 decades ago, before I ever imagined I would become a quilter, I read Jennifer Chiaverini’s quilt series. In her book “A Quilter’s Holiday,” she provides a quilt sampler pattern, that I hope to sew one day. This author is a quilter! Great video!
Thank you for giving me that info on the other book and the pattern.. I will try to find it.. thanks for sharing and happy quilting… 🌺💐🌸👍
First time I've seen your channel, but I like it. And yup, I think summer rereads are WAY better than summer reruns...especially since I prefer books to TV any day. LOL I do have a hard time choosing fabric for a quilt -- not that I'm a quilter. I'm currently making some quilt tops for my best friend's grandkids, at her request, with her husband's old shirts (for the grandsons) and for the granddaughters, hand-embroidered panels her friend did many years ago (the friend passed away 6 or 7 years ago). The only two quilts I've made for myself are . . . well . . . let's just say I need some more practice. 🙂
Congratulations on making your first quilts.. on the t shirt quilts use a stabilizer… it helps the shirts from stretching during use and washings.. there are many products available that are made specifically for making t shirt quilts… the hand embroidery quilts sounds lovely.. if there are many white and off white linens please do not put a red or dark backing fabric on the back as sometimes the color will “show” through sort of like a shadow.. good luck and keep me posted I have a facebook page for the 4 am quilter I’d like to see your progress… thank you for subscribing and commenting … truly Angela 🌺🌺🌺
@@The4amQuilter-eo1dk thanks for the info. I did do a t-shirt throw sized quilt several years ago (how did I forget about that??!! LOL), but the one I'm doing now is with cotton dress shirts. I didn't know about the red/dark backing for white panels (and they were ALL white panels, all 63 of them!!). I hope the quilter knew!! All I did was make the tops and send them to my friend; she had another friend in her state do the quilting. I'm not on Facebook, but if I ever decide to do that I'll go look up your page.
Hello all I’ve added the names of all twelve quilt blocks in the description box that are named in the book. I hope this helps in your creating a sampler of your own.. thank you Angela The 4 am Quilter

What size squares did you cut for your star points? I really like this technique, idea and overall quilt!
When calculating the star points on this technique you take the width of the sashing strip,,, in this case 3” finished, divide in half which is 1 1/2” and add seam allowance which is 2” cut… that was an oops on my part… thank you for watching and asking.. in case other viewers need the information…🌸🌺💐👍
👋👋 ❤️⭐️🌺🌟🌸. Good idea on your sashing.
I had fun …. Thank you …🌸❤️🌺💐
