You don't actually go up to corn Dee you take a right to the other side then turn left at the path
@@James-p5c9w I've since found out that's the case. Thank you. It's a relief to hear and will definitely help next time I try this 'walk' 👍
Sucked going up double sucked going down
Jacob’s ladder up is hard dude especially with KMs under your belt and weight on your back! The horseshoe anticlockwise is unreal, did it last weekend and my quads are still suffering on Thursday (Sunday run out) you smashed it!
@@MattHoff-h2l cheers buddy! You're so right. Think I did it in that direction many years ago but must've forgotten how tough it is. Won't forget it in a hurry this time. Better not as I'm trying again soon.
Oh yeah that's a great laugh
SAS are the best of the best, bar none. However, for braveness in combat, The Gurkas are supreme.

Good luck sir

@@Khumry :)
would you have been able to use runners gels to help you bring up your energy levels if there is another attempt?
@@josephmccallion2321 I think that'll be the trick! Been using oat bars which are great for a day's walking but they don't release energy quickly so gels are the way to go. Never used them before though so hope they're not disgusting!?
Well done mate, it's not the time it's the completion... Heads up you don't have to go all the way up Corn Du (pronounced Corn Dee in Welsh, it means Black Horn) you take a right and skirt around, path is quite easy to see (also come back this way). This could have saved you a bit as the last stretch up the horn is a lung burner... On way down the Fan move to the left and it's a lot easier under foot and more or less straight down (although frowned upon due to erosion). Jog the downhills and as much of flat as possible, tab as fast as you can when not jogging. On way back up fan try zig zagging up on left side opposite side you went down. If you are after that timing don't stop for narration/showing route (understand it's a YT video maybe a time lapse with dub over?) and I think you will bag it no dramas... P.S. There is no substitute for time under weight doing hill reps/flights of stairs, bananas and simple sugars/carbs are your friend... ;)
@@Left_Hand_Black that's amazing advice! Thank you! I'll certainly do all of that on my second attempt. Will definitely make a difference. Did see someone doing the dance at the top of 'Corn Dee' 👍 (obviously, big pack, going at it) and he went round. Now I know why. Cheers buddy!
Great effort mate, different training needed for that like you say the added weight makes huge difference as at 16 to 17st myself I get it 🤦♂️Did Ben Nevis first week in October with extra weight in ruck sack made hell of a difference legs totally cramped up at about 1000m kept on after recovery completed but learned so much. Did Snowdon in July daughters 60th birthday present ended up doing that twice in 3 days absolutely different level level though to Big Ben as you know 17:59 🥴 Ps like you I’m up South Downs twice per week from Arundel up around Bignor etc did it yesterday Whiteways to just past Duncton a circuit back got 1700ft of climb in 12 miles but like you say no comparison to those bloody mountains!!! Literally said to mate yesterday need to do the fan dance as last did it early eighties when in the forces myself hated it then !!!
@@stevepoole9472 it is amazing the difference adding a bit of weight does to a nice 'walk' up a mountain. Training absolutely or more like conditioning maybe? A few months and I'll beat this thing. Sounds like you're pretty active? If you're thinking about it you should give it a go. If you've done it before then you know it's unpleasant but it just has to be beaten! Good luck if you do 👍
Love that! When I took my dad there, there was an organised event doing the fan dance (called 'First In' Events). I've being toying with the idea ever since. Smashed it on this attempt though! How was the extra weight? Not done any walking with any real weight since we were kids. Will have to give it a test next time I'm on the hills.
@@GarethDaviesOutdoors those organised events got me thinking originally. But decided to just give it a go in the end. The weight was a challenge (reminded me of the DoE days) but nothing that you can't train your body to get used to which is exactly what I shall be doing over the winter. Maybe we could give it a go together mate when you feel ready?
@@terran3an1981 I will loan him to you for this one, I would much prefer to be the hype man with the snacks at the top of Pen y fan 🤣
@@AshDBerry 🤣 It's a deal! 👍
@@terran3an1981 it's on! Let me get this damn marathon out the way and I'll start to focus on this. I said to Ash I wanted to do this after the marathon and then half Iron Man 😬 although I'm a good way off that at the minute, I expect fan dance training will give me a good bump in the right direction.
@@GarethDaviesOutdoors Let's make it happen buddy!
Half way point was alot further away than I thought it was. Fab effort !
@@AshDBerry thank you. Yeah, it never seemed to arrive but was so much further on the way back though 🤣
Great video mate, gorgeous scenery! (Also, you know you've got a typo on your thumbnail?).
@@CorvusNumber6 cheers buddy. Yeah I spotted that after it'd gone up. 🤣 Can't win em all 🤷♂️
Excellent! Looks like a great route. I inadvertently did the Mickledore Route the first time I did Scafell. Great bit of steep, hands on the ground scrambling up scree.
@@GarethDaviesOutdoors cheers mate. It was very fun and will be a nice challenge come the winter. I think the route you're talking about was another one I was thinking of doing for that reason but don't think I'll get a chance to scout it out before I go for my winter 'walk' but I've no doubt I'll try the route at some point
Corridor Route is a great route. My favourite way to get up Scafell Pike is via Piers Gill. I’ve got a vid on that way from Wasdale Head to meeting the Corridor Route. Oh, even us “trained navigators” get ‘locationally challenged’ sometimes! Just noticed your Tryfan vid, so gonna have a look at that. We did South Ridge earlier this year.
@@TonysTrails I haven't tried that route yet. Didn't think to go from Wasdale, probably thinking to try something completely different but Wasdale Lake head is a good start for multiple routes. Thanks for the reassurance on the nav. I appreciate it 👍 Tryfan is a great mountain from any direction!

Yeah bristly ridge is way more technical and “bum clenching” than people make out. I think because the focus is on Tryfan we overlook the absolute lunacy of bristly ridge lol satams gully is fun though
this is my second comment to you, I've just watched your three peaks challenge, very well done, you must be so fit,,can you remember me, I'm the 78 yr old, I'm climbing ben Nevis next week, weather permitting,
Great job. I've climbed a few mountains in the last few years including Snowdon, Catbells, Stac Pollaidh and others but there's no way I could do what you've done now I'm 61 with a dodgy back and hip, much as I'd like to. I've been up Nevis Range, but have no desire to grind out an 8 hour walk up the mighty Ben. I'd rather cherry pick those beauties, where you get the most bang for your buck. Haystacks, Suilven, An Teallach, and Liathach in Torridon are on my radar! From your perspective, unless you decide to do another crazy challenge, you can now select wherever you want to climb and take your time enjoying the views, as you did on your first walk up Nevis. I wish I had done more when I was your age, but I was so obsessed with playing football that I didn't allow time for anything else! I look forward to your next adventure!
@@KryptonitetoallBS I wouldn't write yourself off just yet! I did the Yorkshire 3 Peaks a few years ago with my father who was 60 at the time and he did better than me and he'd never done mountains before. I understand though the back and hip issues as I suffer with back problems though, luckily, it's the kind where the more I walk the less problems I have 🤷♂️. Definitely going on to more challenges but time should be less of an issue now so I will certainly enjoy things more. You've gotta enjoy what you can! At least you're still able to get out in the hills 👍 Thanks so much for the comment!
@@terran3an1981 Walking is good for backs in general. For me it's standing still or carrying rucksacks which isn't. Strangely enough the better brands of rucksack which sit more on your hips, damage my back more than the cheap ones which sit more on your shoulders. As I write, I'm into my third day where I can't stand up straight having done a 9 mile walk along the Malverns last Saturday, having used a very good rucksack, which sat nicely on my hips. I always take pain killers before a walk and so I didn't even start to feel the stiffness and pain until the following day. I have learned my lesson and will adjust my rucksack for next time so my shoulders take the strain! Thanks for the encouragement! ps. You're right about age not being a barrier if you're healthy. My mate who is 74 and an ex Gurkha is going to Annapurna next Spring for 6 days walking!
The Wasdale route you took is the shortest but there are much nicer ways to do Scafell Pike. Seathwaite to Sprinkling Tarn and Esk Hause is a fine route but the most dramatic way would be from upper eskdale. If you want to avoid the hordes then Scafell is a better bet via Lord's Rake and the west wall traverse. Just my opinion but the route everyone uses from Wasdale is just a bit of a plod and there are more entertaining routes available.
@@justinradford4858 thanks for the route suggestions. The route from Wasdale Lake head was, as you said, shortest and chosen for that reason for a quicker time on the day of the challenge. I like the sound of the Lord's Rake route and will be trying to attempt it both before and during winter. Stay tuned 👍
That's insane! Surprised how deep it was when it was flooded. Don't know why but only really expected maybe ankle/knee depth.
@@GarethDaviesOutdoors spoke to a couple at the beginning part of the walk. They said it floods there often and they get groups of local boys on inflatables playing there. Crazy!
I have been following your channel for a couple of weeks now so totally missed the real time progress but have caught up completely now. Congratulations on completing the challenge, I have done all three myself by the "normal" and more interesting routes but not as one challenge. For future walks there is some great stuff in the Peak District, plenty of easy scrambling and even one mountain (Kinder Scout, 635m). Great channel, looking forward to following your further adventures.

I came down that Hollow Stones route age 69. Horrible when wet. Ascended via the Lingmell Beck up to Styhead Tarn then the Corridor route. Took me 8 hours with lunch break on summit! Definitely brutal.

Well done. I went via Mickledore, which was a tough scramble for my little legs. 😁
@@theadventurepixie tough but fun I'll bet? Will have to give that a go.
@terran3an1981 I am glad I did it. You just have to be careful of loose scree on the steep part leading up to the boulder section, then some big arm and leg clamber up the gully . You would probably make it look easy. I would not recommend beginners. (That is the right fork off of the main path).
Great idea to do this video on the way down the miners👍
