Midnight Repot - Bird of Paradise in Self-Watering Pot
Stealing from my sleepy time to get this done! This was filmed almost two weeks ago but I just now got around to editing it, again at 1am…
I’m very happy with how this plant is doing, hopefully it continues growing at this rate. I will soon do an update on the planty projects I’ve shown you so far. Thank you for watching ❤️

LET’S BE PLANT FRIENDS! My oldest and my newest plant
So it did survive :)
@@lauramartins5953 Something like that… it produced a keiki, which is now a tiny plant on its own 😊
Did it survive?
@@lauramartins5953 Not exactly… This is the next reel about this orchid: ua-cam.com/users/shortsKNgfFhdIOjs?si=_TC-zYFjLmrVip9s
@@lauramartins5953 … and this is the setup now: ua-cam.com/users/shortsLJkzaZOhdDs?si=gGYO23buiDTbRNRI
Mine stopped growing after I changed the pot. :/ shall I report and try your version?
@@davidf.4886 This is just one way of growing plants, it’s not guaranteed to give you better results. I can’t say why yours stopped growing 🤔 what substrate did you use? How are the roots looking? How much bigger is the new pot compared to the old? Is the plant getting enough light? Are you fertilising? Usually if a plant stops growing, it’s due to insufficient light
What a waste of 4 weeks, the plant would have been completely fine keeping its original roots, no benefit was done by cutting them off…
@@TheSkullman721 You very well might be right but I’ve had experience of soil roots rotting on me in transition, so I thought I’d experiment 🤷🏻♀️
You really didn’t have to do that just to put it in the other medium. All it did was slow the growth down.
@@TheSkullman721 Yes, most likely, but I’m trying different approaches. With my next alocasia I’ll go straight to semi-hydro to see how it does
Trini jump and kiss plant. Love it.
That’s such a cute name for this flower 🥰
Hey its the pretty plant girl with cool music over her videos 😊
@@boreksz82-cf7ze 😅 Hi! Thanks 😊❤️
Wow, midnight repot. LOL! Bird of Paradise roots are massive already. By next year, it will be that massive plant you're looking for. Looks like it loves LECA so far.
I was so sleepy 😂 I hope you’re right! 🤞
I just did this to my fern- how is it doing after a few weeks??
@@christopherhuynh7573 it went through a shock phase and lost a lot of green (I made a short about it) but I see new root growth, so that’s promising. What kind of fern?
The same asparagus fern as you. I just did it two days ago- i do expect it to go through stress but I hope it will recover.
@@christopherhuynh7573 Make sure to maintain the reservoir about 1/3 of the way up the pot, I think the reason mine started yellowing was I let the level drop a bit too much. Sending well wishes to your asparagus fern 🫶 Let me know how it does! 😊
I think it is sunburn . I put mine on the porch to get some light. and forgot her for two hours. all her deep green is almost gone.
@@itasaz3706 Interesting! I noticed she had it even before the leaf was unfurled, and there’s no damage on the underside of the leaf, which should have got the worst of the sunburn, since the leaf was still rolled up… I’ll be watching her to see what happens with this spot, as sunburn usually turns brown and crispy over time. One of her babies got a sunburn though, and it looked different 🤔
😮😮😮oh my goodness what is that plastic thinq on the plant?? That will hurt the plant 😮😮😮
@@lisamarie4472 I believe it’s some sort of drainage bottom that lets water drain off the soil and collect at the bottom of the pot. I don’t have experience with such pots and I didn’t like the idea of having water sit there, so I’m glad I took it out of there 😄
Love the video!!! You have such a soft voice the music overpowers it. Next time preview a small clip to you can get the music at the correct level for your voice.😊
Thank you for the tips! I’m still figuring the sound out. The strange thing is, it sounds fine to me, maybe because I’ve been editing it for a while 😅 I should step away for a while and listen to it with fresh ears before uploading. I need to get a mic as well, that should also improve things
Oh wow…I never knew that they flower.
I did but didn’t expect it to happen to mine 😄 Haworthias do flower and you can cross pollinate them and get really cool hybrids!
🎶❤🎶
😊😄
Thank you!!! You make it seem so easy. On my way to Michael’s to purchase the material.
It is really easy, you just have to keep in mind the direction of the knots. Let me know how it turns out! 🫶
Nice music!!! But turn it down a little bit.😊
Your music is too loud on your videos.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention! It seems normal to me, and I’m not cranking it up or anything, just choosing the audio and not messing with the sound levels at all. I guess I should 😅
I liked that you used a little bit of water for it to grow roots. I see how that can be useful. I think I might have to try that idea. It’s almost forcing them to grow roots. Also, good idea for letting it callus over. Smart plant parent. Thanks for sharing the long method.
Yes, I think especially for plants that prefer drier conditions, it works better to have the water in the prop vessel shallower. The cut was bothering me. I knew if I covered it, it would probably rot. And I was thinking of putting off potting it until it calluses over but if I had left it in the jar, it would have probably moulded like it did before. So that was the only thing I could think of 😅 The cut was dry the next day and I covered it. Thank you for watching and commenting! ❤️❤️❤️
@@DaphneTriesPlants Glad the cut dried the next day. Your method of forcing roots I think I might try that for a hoya.
@@mixonplantsncrafts let me know how it works, I think when the root nubs on the stem are near the water, the humidity should help them grow 😊
I never had any luck with asparagus fern I leca. Crossing my fingers yours will do better!
Thank you! I think it’s stabilising. I’m keeping a close eye on it 🤞
My favorite part about your plants is seeing how happy they look! Look at them, all healthy! Also, your English is great! Everything you say comes across perfectly in both verbal and written communication.
Thank you so much! 🙏 I do try to keep them healthy, it’s still easy, since I don’t have too many 😄 Thanks for complimenting my English, I’m kind of self-conscious about it 😅 My spoken English used to be much better when I was using it on a daily basis but it’s been years…
@@DaphneTriesPlants as someone who hopes to raise a plant or few someday, this is educational. I honestly can't tell that it's been so long. You speak so confidently, as though you never stopped. It sounds so natural.
@@coreymichaels3389 I’m happy to hear someone’s finding my content useful! I’m only a year into the hobby and I’m still learning but I enjoy sharing my journey 😊 Believe me, I should be embarrassed about the current state of my spoken English, given that I’m an English Philology BA 😅 I think my main problem is I’ve always been anxious about public speaking. Hopefully, making these videos will change that
That's such a neat fix though. I would never have thought of that. 😅
When you have limited means you do weird things 😅 Thank you for watching and commenting 🫶
Woohoo! You have a flower coming! 🎉
🥳 my first one! 😊
Update….
I can’t wait either but it’s at my parents’ house 😄 Hope I can visit them really soon!
Chunky roots 🎉❤🎉🎉🎉
Yep! It’s rocking back and forth because the roots are growing under the pot and lifting it up 😄 I’ll have to think about repotting it really soon. I’ll have to find a deeper clear pot somewhere 😅
So beautiful. I want to get one mow.
I love the look of this plant, it’s like a miniature tree of some sort
Info is coming. Very exciting ❤
I absolutely cannot wait! 💃🦩
I loved that you shared the short method and I'm looking forward to seeing the long method. The Asparagus Fern is beautiful with those delicate leaves. Do you prefer using leca over soil? I have some plants in leca but I do prefer soil. Also like your plastic bag repot trick, it’s a clever cleanup. Thanks for sharing.
Both are fine, I think. With the reservoir, consistent watering is very easy and clear. I still have a few plants in soil and they’re in opaque pots, so it’s not as easy to tell when they need watering but since there’s only a couple, it’s easy to stay on top of it. I guess what I’m saying is, if I had more plants, I’d probably prefer LECA. The plastic bag, haha. Well I don’t have a fancy potting mat, so I do with what I have on hand 😅
Very educational and helpful! I'm looking forward to seeing how the plant handles the transition. 🪴
Wow, thank you for watching! I recognise you from the Coexisting crowd 😊 Didn’t think there’d be much of a crossover! I appreciate you being here 🫶
The free ones are the best 🙌
Indeed! 😊
No music please. It's so hard to hear you.
Thank you for the feedback! Yes, I realised it much later, after I had posted 😅 I’ll keep that in mind for the next video! 🫶
Great tips I have done prop lifting before when I first started and they were succulent leaves. LOL! My avocado plant I grew from seed. The foliage is something spectacular. I love your last tip asking for more plants. Thanks for sharing.
Lots of my neighbours are old ladies and they grow plants in the floor hallway outside their apartments near the windows. I’m thinking of asking some of them for cuttings 😄 Or maybe organising a plant swap in our building!
Fabulous 😍
I know! She gave me one of her babies, I can only wish for mine to be like this one day!
Hi friend! ❤
Hi! Thanks for hopping over from IG, heading over to your channel right now 🫶
Your plant care on a budget got me to click the follow button last year. I'm so glad I did. I love all your tips. The seven-year orchid is impressive, and your newest Polly new leaf is exciting. I'm so glad you decided to post a long form video. I am also on a plant ban, so we'll be doing it together, looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
Thank you so much for the support and encouragement 🫶
Oh no, you didn't with plants!
🤭 I sure did! With some prep it’s totally possible, unless you have some absolute diva plants 😄 but even my peace lily and alocasia are perfectly fine!
You always have cool music in your shorts
Aaw, thank you for saying that! It warms my metal heart 🩶😄
What a great tip! Mine usually just dry up in the fridge 🙈
Mine usually get mushy in a plastic bag in the fridge 😅 I’m hoping they last much longer now!
I can’t find a Raven anywhere around where I live! This is one of my top wish list plants. Did you get one?
Not yet! I can’t find one here either 😕 unless I order online but online plant shops here are a bit overpriced and I don’t have the budget at the moment…
I am as well! I’ve been using my own soil mixture for some plants and PON for others. I’ve been learning about LECA from The LECA Wueen here on UA-cam. Good luck!
Yes, her channel is very informative! Her video on transitioning alocasias to LECA is what gave me courage to snip all my polly’s roots 😅
Where do you get your little LECA? Never seen it before.
I’m actually using ceramsite. It’s similar to LECA in that it’s expanded clay but it’s a slightly different product we have here in Bulgaria. There are different sizes and I think plants with finer roots do better in the smaller size medium 😊
🤭😂🤣
😄 it was my first emotionally driven plant purchase. I think I’ve opened up a dangerous door…
Change that horrid demonic music
Sorry you don’t like it 😕 But I should be able to express myself in my own videos…
I thought i was the only one who sings this to myself when doing plant stuff 😭
Nope, you’re not alone 😂
Nice video , I have mine in water now rooting.😊
Great! Let me know how it’s going further on, if you can 🫶
😂
😄😅
No matter how bad i feel, i gotta at least get up and check on if they need water and turn on the grow lights and rotate the ones in windows.
That’s good! They motivate you to get out of bed and some days that’s good enough 😊 sending green love 💚
@DaphneTriesPlants, i found a piece of this plant in a carriage at home depot and i place it in water it grow so fast my question is ? It's ok to let it hang because mines growing but it hangs down not sure what to do if i should tie it Ty in advance ❤
Hi! In the wild tradescantia is a crawling plant, they take over large areas of ground and spread very fast. In pots they tend to trail down and over time lose their leaves and stems become bare except for the ends. I’d suggest chopping it into 1 or 2 node cuttings, propagating them and sticking them back in the pot. That way you’ll have a fuller looking plant. You’ll have to do this a lot because they grow quite fast and become bald on top 😄 Good luck 🫶
Que música tan horrible
😂 yes, it expresses the horrible idea of cutting off the entire root system!
Was not expecting sepultura from your channel but I’m here for it 😂
I’m actually into some very heavy stuff but I don’t wanna scare the people who are just here for the plants 😅 But with this one I couldn’t stop myself, it’s the first song that came to mind 😄
@@DaphneTriesPlants fair. I’m glad you seized the opportunity. Us other heavy metal plant girlies appreciate you at least 😆

It's so satisfying to see those water roots growing in 😍
They’re already peeking out! 😊
