I am a vocalist. I sing carnatic vocal, hindustani vocal, and western vocal. I have learnt all 3 styles of music. 20 years back in the US, I took a carnatic classical vocal workshop from the late great vidwan rk shrikantan of bengaluru and back then he said that people in foreign countries like US are more interested in learning classical music whereas many people in india no longer want to put in the time and effort to learn classical music. Very few people are interested in learning either Carnatic classical music or Hindustani classical music in India these days and this IS part of indian culture.
