Yeah I watched this once, like when it first came out and one was enough lol I actually didn’t find it funny, it was like really sad and I didn’t like seeing him get beat up.

Bianca wasn't dark skinned. Medium and darker than Lucinda, definitely but idk about dark skinned. I used to take it as like " there's a reason people cut off their families, but there's also an emotional disconnect". I saw it something like, that's obviously how they just bug each other. They like to argue and hassle, and till then they didnt want to acknowledge (or didnt seem to get) RJ was actually upset about their behavior until the breaking point. I think they were in the wrong for the most part. Especially the way they deliberately would overstep or throw their weight around. You not wrong about Bianca and the old crush girl who oversteps cus of the dude. Aint no lie about that, but i just took it as a given for most of these romcom movies (that's why My Best Friends Wedding is goated). But i didnt like how Bianca came in kind of already putting herself above or talking down to his family. Not saying you have to carry yourself bummy if the people around you are bummy, but she sort seemed to speak for Roscoe a lot and just partook in things to one up others.

Thank you for covering this movie. I always hated it because of how mean spirited it was towards the MC. I never understood why the dad favored the cousin so much over his own son and that line RJ told to his dad will always haunt me. "I know he lost his dad, but why did I have to lose mine" It's so soul crushing hearing it and all the trauma and hurt behind it. Sometimes you just have to cut off toxic family if no one is there to support you or be there in your darkest moments.

This movie is one of the few movies where it feels like every other scene. I’m just laughing out loud hysterically. I’m not sure what it is, but I love this movie so much.

The sad part about being the part of the family that treats you like the black Sheep of the family they will gaslight, you and make you feel like you're always the problem. In reality, they're projecting their insecurities onto you most likely because they have it healed from their trauma, and they see that you're flourishing and growing, so they try to treat you like an outcast. I have experienced this. Parts of me that I cannot relate to with my family. It's great to love your family and forgive them. But that doesn't mean you should be a part. Of their circle and that doesn't make you less of a loving person. It's called having boundaries and calling people out on. There are actions family that treats people like an outcast. They would never expect someone to have a backbone and stand up to them. And their first reaction is violence really shows that they're the weakest because they can't handle criticism, but they want to intimidate the person that is trying to grow and learn how to express who they are right without following the family tradition. And breaking traditional curses so they can have a new pathway of becoming a better person

This is a great breakdown of this movie! I have such a dislike for the "dropping your long term relationship for your childhood crush" trope in so many movies, and while she had her issues, Bianca deserved better! Like Roscoe was definitely in a difficult spot with his family, but instead of turning towards his partner who he'd misled, he turned to someone who gave him comfort in his youth as one of the few nice people of his childhood. Even though its been years.

To this day RJ’s line “I know he lost his dad, but why did I have to lose mine” sticks with me. Nobody was there for RJ, and then they spend the whole movie bullying him till he accepts responsibility for their wrongdoing.

I remember my Father taking me to the theater to watch this movie. One year later, I got Norbit on DVD.

I always thought that the message about the abuse Norbit goes through was pretty upfront since we're meant to root for if not pity Norbit for being "stuck" in this marriage with Rasputia and having to escape from it. It is true though that most of the time, we're supposed to feel bad that he's married to a "big" woman and not to an abusive and violent one. I perceived it the other way round (probably because i watched the movie ages ago in childhood without understanding much but pretty recently in adulthood).

I saw this movie one time and it triggered my anxiety. I was the black sheep and it made me feel so uncomfortable I worked hard to graduate early and left home at 15 for college.

I've got a pig big black woman babymother here in atlanta that's norbit. Argues about food and fast food and eats to throw up at night. I moved here to atlanta 6yrs ago and got it pregnant. Yuck. Big weave and makeup. Yuck. Help god.

You know what, I'm so glad to see you talk about this movie. I hated it as a child and to this day I won't watch it. I am the black sheep of my family and it just irritated me watching them pick on him the whole movie (AND him allowing it). This movie struck a nerve I didn't know that I had.
