F14 had crazy acceleration for a 70's-80's fighter and was basically a 'muscle car in the air' instead of on the streets. Pure stud!

That is my dad. He always talks about how awesome it was to fly this beat of a plane. He retired in 2020 and I wish he didnt but his time of flying for the navy was over. I have the helmet in my room and his call sign was rocco. I love my dad so much and I always want to hear new stories that he had while flying the tomcat. One hell of a plane.

I was Aviation Electrician in F-18 squadron early 90s. Balanced airwing of 2 hornet squadrons, 2 tomcats squadrons, one Intruder squadron, one prowler squadron, one Viking squadron, helo and Hawkeyes too. I enjoyed my time with hornets but, as flight deck troubleshooter I dug the tomcats. Sexy when they would squat for the cat. Rare burner cat shots unless heavy as our airwing had tomcats with F-110 GE engines. I watch endless youtube videos of current flight deck ops and with exception of Hawkeyes, all aircraft are some version of an F-18.... boringggggg. I get it from a cost/spare parts/commonality perspective but, still..... boring.
