AvE Knife clean-up, assembly and thoughts
This is the assembly of the knife made by UA-camr "AvE." The "knife" is sold as a "blade holder" and comes in parts that need to be cleaned up and assembled. It is made of stainless steel and titanium parts and is designed to hold a 25mm or 1" snap-off blade.
AvE has a few videos about this knife and the assembly of it. My video shows the clean up of the parts, the assembly, and my thoughts on the knife.
I took a bit more time to clean up the parts than AvE does in his assembly video though the total time was not more than a half hour. I could have taken more time to get a mirror finish, or to make the edges perfect, but I was running short on time, and after all, it's a utility knife; I plan to use it not look at it.
The knife has a nice weight to it and feels very solid. The action on it is rough at first but gets better if you take the time to sand the internals and I assume it will get smoother over time.
A couple things that I noticed that could be improved are that the screws protrude out the back, the edges are not very clean or line up well, and I'd like it if it had a belt clip.
Overall this knife is very nice looking and feels nice in the hand. The push-button action is smooth if you take the time to get it there. It's pretty close to "one-of-a-kind" at the moment but I know my coworkers will be asking me where to get it. The price is steep for a utility knife but taking into account the materials and the quantity being made I think it's worth it.

Two Piece Portable Chair Build
Переглядів 5172 роки тому
This is a simple design that I first used a couple years ago. I aimed to make a new version but a bit smaller and lighter for ease of travel. I used ash for the whole chair and finished it with Osmo Polyx oil. I'm 6 ft 170 lbs and the chair held up fine on the beach for a couple hours. It's more comfortable than it looks though making it slightly larger might improve comfort. Some of my favorit...
Old Refrigerator Makeover // Paint and Wood Handle
Переглядів 2,1 тис.2 роки тому
This is the first project for my kitchen remodel. This refrigerator came with our house and although it's a bit dated it still works fine and I actually prefer the freezer/top fridge/bottom layout which seems to have fallen out of favor in most new fridges. I'm also not the biggest fan of stainless appliances. I figured painting it and making a new handle could make it stand out in a good way w...

Make a New Seat Cover For Your Motorcycle
Переглядів 722 роки тому
I made this seat cover for my 2003 Harley Sportster. This is a fairly simple project especially if you choose to not make the ribbed pattern. I used vinyl for this seat but I have also used leather in the past. Vinyl is nice because it does not absorb water and it is much cheaper than leather. I have also made custom seat pans with fiberglass. If you are interested in custom seat pans let me kn...
Harbor Freight 2hp 70 gallon Dust Collector Assembly and First Cuts
Переглядів 26 тис.2 роки тому
I picked up this 70 gallon dust collector from Harbor Freight for $200(on sale from $250). I also purchased the "Dust Collector Accessory Kit" for $65. It took me about a half hour to assemble and it wasn't too complicated. I initially thought that the screws for the casters were missing but as I assembled I realized I had overlooked them. I was surprised by the quality of the hoses, clamps and...
METABO 10" Single Bevel Compound Miter Saw (C 10FCG (S)) - Unboxing and First Cuts
Переглядів 19 тис.2 роки тому
I picked up this Metabo miter saw on sale at Lowes for $119(down from $169). The saw is very lightweight but has plenty of power. I was surprised at the accuracy out of the box. The only problem I noticed was the fence being not straight. Unfortunately this is not easily adjusted. The fence will have to be bent or ground straight. The saw provided square cuts despite this issue as the portions ...

This Nighthawk was my first bike and the bike I learned to ride on. After getting lots of low offers when trying to sell it I decided to give a go at chopping it up, I didn't know much about engines or metal work prior to this and I learned a lot. I've had six other bikes over the years but this one has always been my most reliable and most fun to get around the city on. It could use some work ...
Solution for a pickup truck cap window with worn struts
Переглядів 8095 років тому
This isn't a true fix but it works. The struts would have been about $30 each to replace, which isn't bad, but the clip can be had at a autoparts store or hardware store for a dollar or so. The key locking mechanism cost me about $30. To remove the old one you have to drill out the rivets. I installed my with a pop-rivet tool. amzn.to/3SnBKGk amzn.to/3snToPv amzn.to/3Tug50B
Locking up an Engine for Disassembly or Reassembly

Here's a quick and cheap way to lock up an engine; just wedge a nickel between two gears. I used the right side of the crankshaft and the clutch but it can be done else depending on your situation. I was also able to place the nickel on the opposite side of these two gears to hold the engine while loosening the same bolts.

I was putting mine together the other night and realized it would need some additional work. Kind of sucks to spend $100 doll hairs on something and have to work on it, but I've always enjoyed the channel. So a little DIY fit isn't something I'm not going to be a blowhard about.. Thanks for the video. At least I know which way I need to go with it.

My dumbass spent hours and hours hand finishing my knife in prep for cerakote. Got it finished really nicely, had my boss coat the knife and then my blades showed up from Amazon. I didn’t assemble the knife with the blades in it and ended up completely misaligning the scales to get the blade to fit 🤦🏻‍♂️ I would definitely suggest assembly with the blade in the knife. It’ll help tons getting the alignment perfect

I like Ave. I like his videos, reviews, teardowns, and his whole concept in general, so I bought this. After I received it, opened it up, and saw everything that was going to be involved in making this thing something nice, I had to ask myself if I didn't already have enough fucking time bandits sitting on my bench? And lastly... He talks about being in Canada, and a bunch of bumblefucks sitting around his shop making these with no factory. Great story. So why the fuck is it shipped from Indiana?

Honestly I haven’t been using it as my everyday knife lately. I’ve gone back to my red Tajima that I show in the video. It’s comfier in the hand, there’s less play in the blade and moving the blade in and out is easier.

I use an olfa HD with the plastic stripped off. I put a piece of reflective tape on it, cos it's very slim and easy to lose. Only downside is that the blade can slide out the back if it's loosened because the stop was on the plastic.

  • @caramelzappa
    @caramelzappa 6 місяців тому

If you use your olfas with the blades extended you should really check out the Knipex one. They have a spine that can be extended to support the blade which makes it way better to use with longer extensions. Nice video. I think I'll pick one up. But there's definitely a bunch of things I wish were done differently. Might try to develop my own 18mm version.
