Guy Harvey | Mill House Podcast - Episode 131
Guy Harvey is one of the most prolific and influential artists in the world of fishing. Known as the king of the fishing t-shirt industry, he has captivated generations with his iconic murals depicting billfish and marine life. His passion for these creatures has taken him to the farthest corners of the ocean, where he has had the privilege of observing them up close in their natural habitat.
But who is the man behind the legendary name and his signature long-legged lettering? Having met Guy before, I was struck by the depth of his curiosity and creativity, traits that define his life’s work. Beyond his artistry, Guy is deeply committed to marine research and conservation. His dedication is evident in his founding of the Guy Harvey Research Institute and the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, both of which are at the forefront of efforts to protect marine ecosystems.
In this conversation, we catch up with Guy as he heads to Palm Beach, Florida, to receive yet another well-deserved honor. We discuss his lifelong passion for fishing, his love for art, and his unwavering dedication for billfish conservation.
**** Unfortunately, we experienced an SD Card issue on one of the cameras so we lost 30 minutes of film. If you would like to listen to the rest of the podcast, please find it on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or any podcast app.

John Abplanalp | Mill House Podcast - Episode 130
Переглядів 2,4 тис.14 днів тому
John Abplanalp has lived an extraordinary life centered around fishing, including being one of the pioneers on the flats of Montauk, where he was among the first to sight-cast for striped bass from his skiff. His family was fortunate to pursue big dreams, thanks to his father, who designed and invented the aerosol valve used in spray cans. Fast forward a few years, and after his father purchase...

Over the years, as I’ve participated in various fishing tournaments, I’ve often noticed the names etched on the trophies from past events. One name that always stood out to me was Lenny Berg. He made history by winning the first inaugural Don Hawley Tarpon Tournament in 1976, with the legendary Billy Knowles as his guide. Lenny also triumphed in the Fall Fly Bonefish Tournament three times, alo...

One lesson we’ve all learned over the years is to never judge a book by its cover-especially when the subject is Carter Andrews. This towering figure, both in size and hair, is eclipsed only by the immense love he has for his family and his passion for fishing. His obsession is woven into every breath he takes. Carter is all in-every second, every day. While we’re all connected by water and the...

Very interesting listening to Ed and his take on what’s happened in the last 30 years of our fisheries . Nice to see someone like him trying to make a difference, sad to see no recreational people participating in something so important that affects what they do . When people say it doesn’t matter or I can’t make a difference, they’re wrong . Thanks Andy for these podcasts they are very entertaining and in many case bring issues to light that all fishermen need to be aware of .

Appreciate the scientific stuff as much as the fish catching interviews. Great stuff! Any consideration given to the harvest of krill for the health food supplement and cosmetic mega industries? Ripping out the underpinning of the food web is sure to topple the pyramid. Once it's gone, it's gone for good. We all lose.

It's too bad not more people know about Brian O'Keefe...in the fly fish world he has done it all...more than lefty kreh, Apte or any of the older well-knowns. Just in the shear volume of photo images sold across almost any American outdoor magazine, travel tourist guide books, spanning a distant country's or private business tourist boards, airline mags, hunting, all of it; in places fished and fly fish angling techniques at a very high level; don't let this humble dude kid you that he's a normal angler dirt bagger thats just 'good' and done a lot of cool things. The only other person at this level of fishing skill making a living at it without a huge trustfund or inheritance would be a Jeff Currier or the U.K.'s version of Brian is Matt Harris. These are true 'dirt baggers' fishing all over the world at a super high level of expertise that you'll never see in real life....only in semi- in-depth stories or interviews. No joke! Guys like these can Czech nymph trout to teasing and catching billfish and everything in-between in different continents. It's quite crazy. What a life! And a genuinely great person to boot! another guy like this would be Larry Dahlberg, but he's been on film a lot and has the money to do so!

I'm 76 and grew up in South Florida fishing from the time I could walk and fondly recall fishing the bridges in Stuart and Palm Beach alongside George and Tommy Greene in the late '70s. Listening to George reminisce about how great the fishing used to be is bittersweet. Pollution, costal development and just plain overfishing has left us with a fraction of what was once paradise.

With all respect, you can clearly see in this interview that Neal still has huge regrets on yasuko. He often calls her that woman and barely mentions her in his account whereas he easily mentioned all the others and by name. I don’t blame him or anything like that but I find it very interesting that everyone has a ton to say on this incident but barely anyone talks about what happened to yasuko. I believe it would be the same if beck died up there to but beck lived so can be more easily talked about. I still have no idea what exactly happened to yasuko after reading so much about this other than what Anatoli wrote in his book and the immense remorse he had about her. He even went back up and covered her and recovered things for her family.

I had the pleasure of comparing notes with Lenny a few years ago when I served as Indian Riverkeeper in Stuart. And he was surprised to hear that I fished with my best friend in my Miami days, a radiologist, out of his 1957 Challenger, the boat Lenny is quite familiar with.
