Many of the arguments given to back up any recommendation for providing more and more top ventilation are based on reasoned considerations or anthropomorphic thinking rather then on sharp eyed observations of bee behaviour !! I’m in Canada and you don’t want 2 entrance you want one hole you want to put lots of top insulation not shavings insulation board on tops and you won’t have water drip moisture will form on the side walls
The educators in the bee keeping community are fantastic! I went to a mann lake event earlier this year which presented Dr. Connor and being able to talk 1 on 1 was great. Dr. Connor is easy to talk to and will tell you like it is, even if you have a tereible idea, lol. I very much appreciated this. I still tried my idea but i approached it very deliberately and was willing to cut my losses before things went completely sideways. Dr. Connor, you are a wealth of knowledge and i hope you continue to share what you know. Thank you.
Your a very lucky man you have been able to go all over to see the different species and I’m glade you are in Canada studying bees❤
Very interesting presentation. This definitely opened my eyes to only feeding pollen that they have collected. I'll not use pollen substitute. Hopefully I can get involved in this study. I'd love to see the finished wheel.
Great information
Fantastic presentation! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you for sharing
Mike is great.
Excellent presentation!!!!!!!
1:08:13 Really curious about the results of this study. I’m guessing April and May yields the highest output of jelly in PA.
Glad to bee learning
I love this guy
Who doesn't love St. Randy?
Outstanding
I’m going to watch this presentation several times. So much to take in.
This is a golden gem and invaluable video. Thank you for uploading. Love reading anything from Randy.
thank you so much for the efforts of organizing this talk with mr. Randy. It was so helpful for me to see his latest results on varroi mites .thank you again.
Amazing how productive Randy is. So many experiments, speaking engagements, publications and communications with EPA and industry. Many thanks for your work, Dr. D.
❤
Wonderful information. I enjoy how you share your experiments/research and let all of us know the results. Thank you
To NY Bee Wellness, thank you for uploading this presentation and to Randy Oliver thank you for this presentation and your outstanding research.
Wow!
Thanks for posting, Randy is a wealth of information
We have Rottnest Island a bee breeding program used by a group of comercial bee keepers here in western australia. They pool all the best colonies in western aus being able to control the drone population to breed super colonies . This looks very hopful . with 140 hives i dont want to try to replicate your work so i dont know how this will play out....if they decide to follow your advise.... The talk is all about chemicals. Is it true that in some areas the feral populations develop resistance ? WA has a huge population of feral bees but generaly vicious poor producing multiple swarmers but having in some areas a resistance to AFB. Diesel price is our killer now ,we may have to live with the bees .
Thank you NY Bee Wellness and Randy Oliver ( RO) for posting this excellent presentation. FYI, I tried the OA Dribble method this July ( have only ever vaporised) on all my new NUCs (created with my grafted 2023 Queens) using RO's timing method and OA formula ( on his website). I am so impressed with the results and how healthy these NUCs are looking going into our northern BC winter. They will get another OA vapour treatment in Oct/Nov. Also for the first time, for late summer hives that had mite issues, I isolated (on one frame of bees) the Queen in a NUC box for the first 24-36 hours after putting in 2 Formic Pro strips , all hives accepted those Queens ( year 2 Queens) when i put them back in. Not a big enough sample size to know if this technique will always work, but I am happy with the results.
Thank you for hosting Randy Oliver and his talk on mite resistant and the trek towards not having to treat or maybe just a the hopes of using only organic treatments with no residual effects. He, his son's, and the team of people that work and volunteer for him really are helping us out in this area of our beekeeping. Thanks you very much for sharing this subject to us in a ever evolving and changing but challenging way. A sideline beekeeper in California. 🐝
Thanks from Sweden, for a great video with a lot of great information ..Really hope that Randy succeed with the no treatment project.🐝
More options are best and big money doesn't want it, they don't make money of of fixing a problem. Again and again a great presentation by a man that understands.
good talk Randy does wonderful work and he is always willing to help others in the beekeeping. Thanks so much for having him and doing this video. Have a Blessed week
Great webinar, thank you!
THANK YOU!
Very informative from Northern Alberta Canada💯👍
good idea on checking a treatment before re applying on OA -when not Efficasous
Good idea 👍🐝
Impressive...
Impressive presentation
Wow, watched the complete video and thank you for all the effort to get this out to us.
Thank you, a very important subject covered.
This is cool .I've been trying to find out how to get the brood numbers up early in the year for pollinating early .
Everyone interested in extended release oxalic acid should watch this video. Randy's research is excellent.
Well done as usual
Great presentation by Randy. We all need to donate $$ to help his research and hiring help. He’s awesome.
Sehr Interessant, viele gute Informationen. Danke👍
I am the county bee inspector for two counties in southern Utah. Some of the beekeepers in my area are using Randy's extended-release oxalic acid shop towels and sponges. All of these beekeepers have had excessive mite counts when I do inspections, although the count is noticeably lower than "treatment-free" apiaries in my counties. My conclusion is that Randy's work has created a very useful tool, but it isn't perfect. I does seem to keep mite counts from getting our of control which makes other treatments more effective. I tell my Randy Oliver disciples that they must continue to do monthly mite counts and to treat with a different product when the mite count exceeds 2-3%. As with the "Flow Hive", oxalic-acid sponges and shop towels are NOT an excuse to be lazy.
👏👏👏👏
Congratulations! Michael beekeeper from Roumania!
He is doing great work . .
Thank you, definitely great new infos here!
just a word of caution for those DIY OAE, in NZ we have seen a lot of failures and those who have failures can't/won't say why. i suspect its problems in dissolving OA, possibly the bottom of the pan getting to hot (breaks down into formic) and also to much moisture as its fairly humid here. someone asked about storage, the critical thing is keeping the OA dry. storing it in air tight containers and/or in a dry location. that may mean a heated cupboard or fridge/freezer. gly soaks up humidity which makes it more liquid (tested that) which makes it spread faster in the hive and it gets an overdose. also i have noticed a "hot" mix the bees do not like. they will walk on it and turn around and go back. even just go up to the pad, touch it, then walk away. so this can mean lower spread-ability, but because its a "hot" mix its more spreadable, which can offset the lack of bees walking on it and make it appear its a good ratio. but if there is a change in bee behavior that "hot" mix can be spread faster, overdose and result in brood/queen failure.
)
Just came across this. Fantastic, informative, well organized presentation. Thank you Etienne, thank you NY Bee Wellness.
