    When you have a partial ice shelf like that, cast ONTO it then slowly drag your lure/ fly across the ice, into the water.. often they will smash it as it falls off the ice into the water ;)

    My summertime baits depend on the time of the day. Early morning I love top water, even in the heat of summer. Texas rigs work great around structures mid to late morning, and I kill it with gulp minnows around rocks in the evenings. A lot of people say to use deep diving crank baits and find the fish that have gone deep to escape the heat, but I've never actually had luck with that. I try it out from time to time, but I can count on two hands the # of bass I've actually caught with that method. Spinner baits work all times of year imo. Best in spring, but I don't think there's a time they don't work.

    • @HypnoticHook
      @HypnoticHook 3 місяці тому

      same with the crank baits. I always just assumed I didn't have the right ones. I also like Texas worms, but they haven't worked since spring out here, are the gulp minnows the ones in the same jars as dough baits? i might give those a go

    I got arrested on the Niangua river in the late 2000s. Beware of overzealous water patrol officers who like to pick on out-of-towners.. What happened is I was skipping rocks across the river when we stopped to eat, and beause I had a few drinks, I didn't see the officers who were hiding behind the bushes wearing camo. They claimed I was throwing rocks at them and charged me with assaulting an officer. Charges were quickly dismissed as the case was BS, but still cost me a chunk to hire that lawyer and get those charges dropped. I always wanted to go back and fish that river, because it was so clear and you could see the schools of nice fish...but man that left a bad taste in my mouth.

    • @HypnoticHook
      @HypnoticHook 4 місяці тому

      Wow that's crazy! I won't ever go back we didn't have that good of an experience. Ill stick with trout fishing Bennet springs! Man we saw several along the way way down. They were hiding in bushes and stuff and all you could see was a couple pair of black sunglasses. So many people were going back up river yelling tree cops and game wardens are out.

      What are you looking for? In our side of MO we don't have the option for rainbow trout until the late fall and winter months for stockies, so your best and most common bets are going to be bass, catfish, and panfish. I usually just shoot for panfish myself as either ultralight or fly fishing so I like going to Lake Jacomo and Carl Migliazzo Park

    If it's a neighborhood pond, just act cool like you belong there and generally people will leave you alone assuming either you live in the complex or you're a guest for somebody who lives there. Then there are trickier places. I hit up the Unity Lakes last year, sneaking through the woods one evening and hitting up spots that were out of the view of the cabins. Really nice fish in that lake. You can only fish the lakes if you're a member of Unity village or work for them. I've half considered joining their church or getting a part-time job at the book store just so I can fish there lol. It's a well regulated water that sees very few anglers. Then there was a place up North right off I-635 close to the casino. It's a pond that the Missouri River drains into when water is high. So it has every species in it. I was sneaking in for a while and catching some monster bass and nice catfish... I wasn't the only one, but they didn't care and left us alone for the most part. This was a few years ago, right before COVID. Then during 2020, so many people were bored locked up in their homes that suddenly lots of people were sneaking out there to fish. So they put up signs everywhere and put a stop to that.

    The bass fishing on the blue is hot/cold. Creek fishing(I've always seen the blue as a creek not a river) they generally don't get as big. But it's still fun catching them and they fight harder pound for pound having fought that current their whole lives. Sometimes it's hard fishing in the city because everything gets so much pressure. So it's nice to fish a creek and just catch fish, regardless of size. I've had some luck at the bigger lakes when my brother comes to town and we get out on his bass boat. You can cover a lot more water than in a kayak obviously and he's got all the fish finding gear. But if he's not in town, I've got a couple sweet spots locally in Lees Summit and JOCO, but you can't hit those sweet spots up all the time or you'll just add pressure to the water. So creeks are a nice changeup.

    • @HypnoticHook
      @HypnoticHook 4 місяці тому

      Agreed I like the verity of options around Lee summit. There are always options and I don't see a lot of people fishing during the week early morning when I go so I get them all to myself usually.

    • @turinturambar347
      @turinturambar347 4 місяці тому

      @@HypnoticHook Middle of the week is the best time to fish for sure. Unfortunately with my job I don't get many mid-week opportunities, and my toddler is going through a bad tantrum throwing stage right now, so I don't feel comfortable leaving my wife to take care of him alone all the time, so I don't get out fishing as much these days as I used to. Hopefully that changes when he gets a little older. But I make it out on the weekends, and I do have a staycation next week, so I'll be making it out next week. You've gotta try the pond at Legacy Park. I can show you the best spots if you want or if you're just looking for somebody to fish with some time, let me know and I'll DM you my #. Anyway, good luck out there.

      @@HypnoticHook Sometimes I bank fish sometimes I Kayak. One of my favorite things to do is put on my chest-high waders and hit up the creeks in the KC Metro. Creeks are an overlooked water in the city since they don’t receive the same pressure. Size is usually smaller, but a wide variety of species. Biggest fish I’ve landed in the Lees Summit area is a 7 lb bass at the pond by Legacy Park. That place is really good fishing in March, then drops off but picks up again in mid-October and there’s usually a good bite for 3 or 4 weeks when they try to fatten up for winter. Not sure why the bite falls off so much from April-September…you can still have some good days there but it’s best in early spring or late fall.

      My brother's personal best was caught that way. He was fishing for bluegill with his 3 year old son. Using one of those cheap spider-man poles with a small hook and bobber. Something swirled after the bluegill that was hooked on the worm. The bluegill came off but the 6.5 lb bass somehow stayed hooked. The tiny hook got itself into the tough flesh in the corner of the mouth...but when he got it in it was basically hanging by a string of flesh. Not sure how it didn't break that cheap line either. The reel was useless after getting the fish in. That's the weird thing though...a lot of people catch their PB in weird ways. I myself caught my biggest bass on a small crankbait...like the tiny grasshopper ones that you use to target bluegill. It had the tiniest treble hooks. It hooked itself in the corner of the mouth as well. Not sure it would have stuck anywhere else.

      @@HypnoticHook That was a nice fish. But if you fish that pond at Legacy Park, I guarantee you that you'll break your PB eventually. I caught a 7 lb bass out there two years ago, and caught a 6.5 this year. And I have it on good authority(somebody in LS Parks) that somebody caught a 9 out of that pond this spring. In the same spot I caught the 7 two years ago. Maybe it was the same fish...that fish looked healthy and young and looked like it had a few more years left in it. It's a good spot. Just don't tell anybody about it ;). Best bait that works in that pond is swimbaits and spinners. I've heard there are big catfish in that pond too, though I've never brought my catfish gear down there.
