      I literally only discovered the remake as I was doing research for the original. Had no idea it existed! No wonder it didn't do well. I recommend it. It's a really well made film with great performances. Not the kind of film you can rewatch over and over but definitely worth watching at least once.

    the one thing i disagree with here that you said is that you dont like how they turned the jedi into groomers that's not a new thing they added in the show the jedi have always been Groomers even in star wars legends jedi groomed kids or stole kids to join there order...witch there order is basically a cult the grooming thing is nothing new Kiksta its always been like that in the lore if you look at the old republic Jedi Master Denolm Orr basically kidnapped a force senstive girl to be a jedi and left the other one to remain a slave to the huts with no remorse

      Seconding this. It's been a LONG Jedi Tradition to take children three years or younger so they don't have attachments to family. Remember them saying Anakin was too old? They then teach those kids to suppress emotions and deny/avoid attachment, both things that are in the real world known to be psychologically extremely harmful. I could deal with it in Legends (aka Real Star Wars) because I always viewed the Jedi as being out of balance in their own way as much as the Sith are. But Disnicrap "canon" seems to be trying to retcon this at every turn, and saying that balance would be the Jedi being always right, which I feel is essentially glorifying child abuse. If they want to address an issue that really needs addressed in Star Wars, they should forget lesbian immaculate conception (Note: nothing against lesbians, I'm ace myself. But what's so horrible about natural biology and using a sperm donor? I had my fill of Magic Babies when Anakin didn't have a father, and at least that had a plot reason/excuse that made a half a lick of sense) and how about addressing the faults of the Jedi order... not to turn the heroes into villains, but to have them recognize their mistakes and learn to do better. Legends actually DID this. Luke's reformed order didn't have the same avoidance of attachments and suppression of emotion as the pre-Empire order. But they threw all that progress out...

I understand he learnt english for the role and unfortunately it does show. He doesn't quite have the inflections of the dialogue down pat, sometimes doesn't emphasise the correct syllable. 7/10 for me personally. The mystery element has been lacklustre to me. The fight scenes have been solid and the plot was intriguing. Sol was the highlight so far. Yeah I agree with most of that. It's a 5/10 for me so far. I appreciate that they didn't drag out the twin sister twist, instead getting it out of the way in the first episode. Yes Sol was the best part and I think Indara will return in flashbacks. There's no way they get Carrie-Ann Moss for a Star Wars show and only use her for 3 mins. The plot of intriguing just enough for me to not be hate-watching yet haha, but I think that could change very fast. Marketing is not 100, especially after Iger's cuts, marketing costs were specially slashed and they report that in every earnings report for almost a year. If we have a break down of their revenue we do 60% of domestic 40% of international and 25% of Chinese revenue. Trust me, 20th Century is happy with the movie's performance, especially for one that got a B Cinemascore. It had the 2nd biggest opening of all prequels and held well. But internationally it performed weaker than War.

Even if they slashed the marketing in half compared to usual and it was 50, it still needs to make close to 400 to break even. I know the 60/40 split, which is what i go off. Based on current takings, it's made 84 domestic and 80 foreign. So say 160 total. Which means it's just covered it's budget, now it still needs to make up another 50-100 to cover marketing. One thing to remember, particularly with Disney, is that they're reported budgets are almost ALWAYS revealed to be actually a lot larger about a year or so later. Happened with Doctor Strange 2, Antman 3 and others.

I think that trick is no longer working as it's not a substantive style of storytelling. It's very shallow and superficial. They need to start making new things again. And even though audiences are rejecting new things right now, they need to accept that they'll cop losses in the short term, but returning to creativity and originality will payoff in the long run.

    Furiosa is definitely on its way to becoming a major bomb. Kingdom could break even if it makes around 390-400 Million but has still not made the amount it should have. The rule for break even is 2.5x its production budget but it also comes down to marketing. I didn't see too much marketing for Kingdom. I don’t think Mel Gibson coming back would have helped given his controversies. The closest we have come to him reprising a similar role was in Blood Father (2016).

    • @kiksta
      @kiksta 19 днів тому

      I've heard the 2.5x rule. I think it's a pretty good one. I do roughly 50% of the box office, plus add $150 million for the biggest blockbusters (Marvel, Star Wars etc), $100 million for smaller blockbusters (Furiosa, Planet of the Apes etc. So for Furiosa, $160 million budget + $100 million marketing = $260 million. So I see that as needing somewhere in the $450-$500 million range to break even. Same for Apes I would say. Yes I don't think Mel Gibson returning would make $500 million, but I definitely think it would do better than Furiosa. Fury Road only made $380 million, yet people talk about it like it was a billion dollar film. I think the people making Furiosa treated it like that too, which is why the budget got out of control.

    The one scene that bothered me the most in the movie was when Oppenheimer was at a Communist gathering and one of his lover’s tries to claim that “private property is theft” and the U.S. representation is portrayed as the doom and gloom. It mainly felt woke in the sense that Hollywood once again wanted the Liberals portrayed as the victims while anyone that was pro American was horrible for supporting such a destructive weapon even though it saved millions of Western lives from a war that seemed to have no end.

    • @kiksta
      @kiksta 22 дні тому

      I completely agree with you on that. However it is slightly hard to decipher if that was intentional by the filmmakers to be sympathetic to the communists, or rather were they trying to present them in a way that Oppenheimer genuinely viewed them as? Because he was somewhat sympathetic to them. And this film was very much told from his perspective. It's a tough one to pick.

    I agree and disagree with you. I strongly disagree that the novel is inferior to Tolkien's LOTR trilogy. The Hobbit is a great book for children, but also for adults. But it's completely different! It's like comparing apples and oranges! There are elements in "The Hobbit" which I actually like better than everything in Tolkien's LOTR trilogy. The subtle irony is very enjoyable. The problem with the Hobbit movie trilogy is that Peter Jackson wanted to turn the relatively short novel into something which would resemble his LOTR trilogy - but he also wanted to retain the wimsy elements of the book, and that didn't really work out so well. Btw, Peter Jackson freely admits that the Hobbit trilogy isn't his finest work 😉 But we know now that Jackson had to take over when the work had already started, and it must've been absolutely chaotic. But let's point out the good elements of the trilogy, because there is indeed a lot of great stuff: the whole cast is wonderful! There isn't one weak performance. And IMO Martin Freeman as Bilbo is perfect! He is actually much better than Elijah Wood as Frodo. I was never a great fan of Elijah Wood's performance. And, as you also pointed out, after the prologue which shows us the destruction of the dwarf kingdom and Dale, the beginning of Bilbo's story is exactly as the beginning of the novel. It's simply great! And I am always annoyed that Peter Jackson has been criticized for that beginning and that it was too slow. He perfectly captured Tolkien's Text and it's spirit. The scene with Gollum and his riddle contest with Bilbo is also pitch perfect, and we should be very glad that we have that scene. It's one of the most important scenes of the overall story of the ring and the Tolkien universe. And while it could've been done better, I also have nothing against the inclusion of material from the appendices, because important things do happen at the same time as Bilbo's journey, and it explains why Gandalf is absent for long stretches of time. That is never very well explained in the novel, because Tolkien hadn't yet invented these things when he wrote The Hobbit. He re-edited "The Hobbit" when he had written the first novel of the LOTR trilogy in order make the story of how Bilbo acquired the ring, compatible with the overall story of the ring. But Gandalf's activities during his absence from Bilbo and the dwarves are only shortly mentioned in the book. So, what are the bad things in the Hobbit trilogy? Unfortunately there are many weaknesses: I think it was for various reasons a huge mistake to include Legolas. It's certainly not against Tolkien's lore. But Legolas is supposed to be 60 years younger than when we meet him in the LOTR movies. But Orlando Bloom was unfortunately visibly older when he appeared again as Legolas in the Hobbit movies. But while that's a bit annoying, it's not the worst thing. The really bad thing is that the role of Legolas is awfully written, and his character is reduced to that of a stuntman and CGI character! I think that Orlando Bloom wasn't even needed. The CGI crew could have created a CGI persona from the Legolas-material of the LOTR trilogy! That would have had the advantage that Legolas would at least have looked as young and fresh as in the LOTR trilogy! Then there is the terrible love triangle with a female elf which is also a ninja stuntwoman. I don't object against the introduction of a new female character, because Tolkien had unfortunately not featured any female characters at all in the novel since Galadriel isn't mentioned in the Hobbit. I can understand that modern girls want to see an important female character in such a movie. And Tolkien never said that there were no female wood elves 😉 But the whole storyline of Tauriel, Legolas and Kili is terribly written and not at all believable. Legolas comes across as wooden and constantly annoyed and grumpy, while Tauriel und Kili hardly spend any time together. How could there be a credible love triangle? Then there is the inclusion of Radagast. I actually like his character, his rabbits and his cute hedgehog, but it makes the movies unnecessarily longer. But the very worst parts of the movie are all these far too long CGI-heavy action scenes which go on and on and on...., and often they look like rides in an amusement park! And since they are so over-the-top and unrealistic they feel like animated cartoons. This reduces the level of realism. This is actually one of Peter Jackson's great weaknesses in all of his movies. Once he opened the CGI tool-box, he never looked back, and that's not good for his movies, as Viggo Mortensen has told us. He likes the first movie of the LOTR trilogy best and l agree with him. All that said, the Hobbit trilogy is indeed underrated, and there are actually cuts available which have been made by fans who have ditched all the unnecessary stuff - and the Hobbit material actually contains a very good movie which is well worth watching. I don't have such a fan cut. But everybody can do that. Just skip everything which you don't like 😉 If you are a Tolkien fan, I can promise you that you will enjoy Peter Jackson's "Hobbit".

      @@kiksta, ha, ha, I will check out your ranking later! It will be fun, because there are other almost forgotten movies which had not been on my radar. My introduction into Tolkien's world - even before I read the books - was Ralph Bakshi's incomplete animated LOTR movie . At the time i couldn't really form an opinion about it's quality. The media had made a lot of fuss about the movie because of it's use of the rotoscope method. But when I saw the movie, I didn't understand much of the narrative! How was I supposed to know anything about hobbits, Middle Earth, elves and Tolkien's wizards and evil beings who produced evil rings?? And when I left the movie theater I had the nagging feeling that the story wasn't finished! These guys had gone on their journey eith the goal to destroy a very evil magic ring! But as far as I could tell, the ring was still very much intact and in Frodo's possession! However, no trailer or ad had mentioned that the story wasn't finished or that there might be a sequel. The movie wasn't completely bad, though, and because it was incomplete, it had managed to get me interested in the story. I wanted to know more about Tolkien's world. I started to read the books - and I was hooked 😀 And, yes, Amazon's ROP was so bad that I don't even know where to begin with my criticism. The writers didn't just butcher some of Tolkien's most important characters, but it's worse - most of their narratives don't make any sense at all! And the HalRon-Galadriel-almost-love-story completely destroyed the credibility and the foundation of the tv-show. IMO this makes it impossible to repair it in the upcoming seasons.

But then I randomly watched The Two Towers one day and absolutely loved it, and I became a die hard then and there. Now I love Fellowship and all of them :) Yes the fact that they turned RoP into essentially a mystery box story of "Who is Sauron" was the dumbest decision ever. They were badass, but still very much feminine. Most female characters now just act like dudes. That said, you do have a point about how we would receive such characters today. And that is the fault of the agendas they're trying to push. When there are ESG-funded initiatives in place to ensure specific representation of certain genders/races on screen, it makes it impossible to know if these characters are there on merit or just to tick a box. We didn't have such initiatives at the time of Alien, Terminator etc, so there was nothing to worry about. This is why quotas and the like are actually counter-productive towards creating equity.

    One of my favourite movies of all time. The Opening Scene alone is absolutely iconic. The Direction, Score, Cinematography, Mystery behind the Ark and Suspense all fantastic. A timeless classic!

      Couldn't agree more! Each time I watch the film I discover new things about it that I love. Strangely, growing up Raiders was the one I watched the LEAST of the trilogy. Not for any specific reason, just felt like every time there was one to watch on tv, it was either Doom or Crusade...

      @@kiksta My first time hearing about Indiana Jones was when I was 11 in 2008 I believe (when Crystal Skull came out). I just remember Crystal Skull being widely criticised after its release. It wasn’t until 2018 when I actually checked out all the films. I initially wasn’t a huge fan of Raiders but having since rewatched it about 4 times it’s one of my favourite films of all time and by far my favourite Indy film..

      @@deansal9222 Wow that's cool that you discovered it so late. I feel like many younger people today wouldn't even give the Indy films a chance cause the graphics are dated.

      @@kiksta Yeah, Star Wars seems to get a lot more recognition. I think merchandising also plays a big role.

      Well if the film turns out great, all will be forgiven.
