Renogy MPPT and Inverter noise on HF
Переглядів 974 місяці тому
I noticed some pretty bad noise on my HF rig, both my Rover 40A MPPT charger and my 1000watt inverter are very noisy on HF. I've ordered some ferrites, and I may look at shielding the charge controller's case, I'm hoping that maybe I can show you a few ways to mitigate RF noise like this.

One of the oldest rotary dial phones next to its grandson. What do they have in common? Strowger founded the automatic electric company, and they continued to make phones for over 100 years. The red one is just the younger version of the wooden set. #retro #vintagetelephone #fonephreak #phreaker #telecom

Yo, how do we get service on this
The program graham bell worked much better😂. Thank you for abusing at&t🤐. You could record the sequence on a cassette tape and walkman to use it from payphones. Just take a foreign phonebook and check if the 0800 numbers had a satelite beep😅
Yep they were the days😊
Great video thanks! I just purchased one and I am looking forward to restoring it so looking forward to your re-capping video!
Hi dear om, I am F5SJF. I used Windows11 with WSL for hamclock. It 's good. But I have small problem. Not possible to display contac WSJT in hamclock. I reading the manual, ip address on WSJT-x 192.168.1.255, but no display contact (192.168.1.xxx it's my address computer windows 10). If ping address WSL 172.x.x.x it's ok. Any ideas??? Many thanks
Hi, I have a citizen eco drive red arrows AT and I have left the watch with the crown out to the second position for 5 days in the window as Citizen recommended but the battery has not charged sufficiently. Citizen want £200 to fix it but can't I just put a new battery in it? Citizen told me it doesn't have a battery is that right? The case back is not a twist off though but there is a little notch on the back but it states DO NOT OPEN! So is this just an excuse to take my £500? Thanks
Thanks for the video and tips...
I thought,Its called a capacitor.......not a battery...
wow
Still have this? Here are some specsmaxxing ideas (and content ideas) • CPU: Swap the Intel 80C86 for an NEC V20. • RAM: Expand to 1.6MB with the Toshiba PC-PA7139U module. • Floppy Drives: Use a Gotek USB OLED Emulator with FlashFloppy (34-pin to 26-pin adapter from FloppyEmulayor) and keep one 720KB drive. • External Floppy Disk: SD-521 5.25” drive via the PRT/FDD port. • Expansion Chassis: Add 5 IBM-compatible slots via the EXP slot. • External Storage: ZIP 100MB drive via parallel port with PalmZip drivers to use as HDD... OR get a Backpack external HDD. • Display: Recap the 640x200 monochrome LCD. • Power: Rebuild the NiCd battery with NiMH cells. • Mouse: Cherry M-5400 PS/2 mouse with Serial-to-PS/2 adapter. • OS: MS-DOS 6.22 + Windows 3.0 MME, or FreeDOS + Windows 3.1 Beta 26 on ZIP drive. (Extra partition for ELKS Linux) OH and if you get a serial port splitter / hub you can connect a serial to ethernet adapter for maybe some windows and DOS networking but definitely ELKS. HOPEFULLY this opens some doors for you.
Very helpful video, this locking spring on the top of the battery is a PITA to put it back. Thank you!
My friend had on of these. lol 😆
It feels like I’m back in time.
Super-helpful thanks… especially the slide trick with that little metal piece. It was on wrong and preventing the watch from charging.
I loved the 3 slot payphones. As decades ago. I got myself a copy of, Abby Hoffman's, Steel This Book. Was it Abby's? I forget? While somebody else stole the book, from me. But in that book. It described how to make a call. With a 3 slot payphone. For only 1 cent. One penny. Yes. You had to take a phone book cover. And tear off a strip. Then stick it down the, quarter slot. All the way down. And then put your penny in the nickel slot. Start to pull out the paper strip. From the quarter slot. Until the penny goes, ding. And you just made a call for 1 cents. It was so easy to do with a 3 slot payphone and phonebook. I did that multiple times through the years. As you did not need a phone freak box to do that. And I was a talented young teenager. Who would become a, Broadcast Engineer. For my next 50 years. Since I knew how to make a call for 1 penny. That's all I needed to know. To go to work for a big radio station. Along with my FCC License. You get 3 strikes. And I had a Home Run.. So? I miss those 3 slot payphones. As I can no longer make any discount calls. So I got a cell phone instead. With unlimited calling. Now it's not as much fun.. As from Texas. I can call a radio station in Los Angeles. To request a song. I can never hear. As I don't live in Los Angeles. I live in central, Texas. So where's the fun in that now? It's free to do. So that's no fun now. They have certainly over improved the telephone system. Now it's no fun either. What are we going to do for fun now? Purchase a Motorhome? Well I just did. Now they will never be able to catch me! I may Retired Broadcast Engineer. I know how to wreak havoc on the airwaves! RemyRAD
That looks so cool 😍
Welcome to the club called Solar noise, I sometimes wonder how they let any maufatrure get away with such a noisy " transmitter" as an extra to what it should be doing.
Right? I was surprised. It doesn't have to be this way.
@@fonephreak02 True but the officials are putting a blind eye to noise below 30Mhz, how convenient, the agenda always come first.
Other thing worth testing is resistor values, which can drift with age
Do you need to pull pin out to give watch a decent charge and quicker? Many thanks
that should have a nice thick DOS manual with it. oh, the memories
How long it takes to fully charge these watches
Usually, I leave it in a window during the day and that's enough.
There was an Android app that makes the tones for you, but it hasn't been updated for recent versions of Android so it can't be downloaded. It's just novelty software. No real use for it now.
There whas no a´droid the´ amiga had graham bell program
Thanks for the tips
Hey thanks for this info! I'm an avid amateur radio op who does mostly CW (morse code) I absolutely love vibroplex bugs and other bugs in general, and was trying to find what an original telegraph sounder would sound like with a bug attached. I'm very interested in the history of the telegraph and have been slowly collecting different devices and other things. One day it would be interesting to be a curator for a museum exhibit. Anyways thanks for this demo! 73!
Very cool! I have a sounder from the PEI phone museum where someone built a circuit that taps out "what hath god wrought" when you push a button :)
it's not a battery, it's a capacitor.
i bought a ww2 spitfire compass gauge back in january not knowing if it was radium or not, but i got home and recorded my test with a dosimeter and it was honestly scary. it read around 181,000 cpm and 60 r/h. needless to say it’s now stored in a paint bucket, also considering the glass covering it is completely shattered
Yeah. I've got some other stuff I nabbed from a late friend's phone museum. Military field phone plugs or something, they are very hot. In Canada here we can get radioactive stuff like that taken away and disposed of safely, I just need to call the right folks and arrange for a pickup.
@@fonephreak02 ive always wanted to go to canada to find some cool stuff there! always dreamed of finding one of those canadian luminous helmet disks lolll

Cool box! Great video! Thank you very much.
Thanks!! Nice video! How can i save frequency 119,400 as a channel? I have tried with chirp and with the manufacturer's software, but I have not been able to, because an error appears: it is not a supported frequency. However, I can hear that frequency. thanks again!
I'm not super sure. Might be worth a firmware upgrade. I remember having some issue getting it into air mode.
Don't touch the battery with your hands
Why's that?
OMG blast from the past, I used to do this in the 90s , I used software, you would call a 0800 number then break the line and call anywhere in the world, 90s were the hacking years,
Youbare in for the comming billrun? Same same, but different
One question, is there a method to verify the proper functioning of the solar panel of an Eco-Drive? I'm not talking about the battery, which i have new and therefore charged. A method of not having to wait months for the battery's power reserve to run out
There is no, only thing you can check is battery level which this particular model have. As long I know every Eco drive has battery level which is checked by button pressing it is usual the lower button. Never leave Eco drive watch in complete darkness and this battery should last for 20 years at least.
I got one off amazon that came with 1 radio and two batts. 1 battery was DOA , other was fine. So I contacted support, phone number always busy, lol. Email was quick to reply and offered me a new battery , for free, just needed to give them my amazon order number. Great. Was programmed and working great and then I turned it off and went to bed. Woke up next day, turned it on and , whoa, it was killed a feature that you can use if it is stollen. Mine clearly was not so back to amazon it went . Sad because I really liked it. Both my Fengs 5rm and tidradio h8 are fine. So I dont know
just found this unit...box maual and unit with cables....the interior batteries were TOASTED 😅 May just gut it, make a hanging light 😅
Hey thank you yeah I do have the h-8 it looks just like the one you were showing only it's bigger thank you very much I didn't know it did are band😮
the H8 does not have airband, but the H3 does
Just found my 22 year old Skyhawk that had been in a drawer for a good decade or more. Put it in the window for a day and reset it, and it's back to life like nothing ever happened!
You should make short video of your model and explain the people that watch is 22 years and still working. Citizen watches are really good quality.Bought my first Sky Chrono Pilot CB5000-50L and after almost 5 years and lot of beating it still works like charm. I use it as daily.
Do they still work in 2024 if I get one ?
No. They won't unfortunately.
I'm very disappointed It only put you 3watts
Yes, but the H8 will do much more, and if you do not need airband recieve, that'll do it.
Those tones DEFINITELY sound off to me, but it has been a long time, so maybe not. Nice find, tho. I actually was really into blueboxing when I was like 15-17 (1995-1997). Mostly, I used 800#s that went directly to operators in other countries. They used CCITT#5 signalling, which required somewhat more complex hardware (I used software) because u had to do: Clear forward (2600+2400hz for usually 100-150ms), then it would wink back with 26/24, then you had to send 2400hz for ~150ms, then it would wink back with 2600hz, then u could dial. Some of the trunks had really tight tolerances, and if u were off with the timing (as little as even like 50ms or so, IIRC), you'd lose the trunk. I wired up my sound card into the phone line with a transformer I got a radio shack and a few other components--real simple--and then used my computer like an operator's console, lol. It was mint. Are those ST1,2,3 buttons active?
Eco-drive watches use a capacitor not a battery.
Was your other watch that you put on camera for a moment the Citizen Eco Drive Skyhawk Black Eagle edition?
YES! it's beat up AF, I got it.. maybe 2005? Its band is broken and the ring with the numbers on it fell off :( I wore it daily for so many years.
What is the funtion of the 1 thru 5 at the top of the h3 screen ?
TX power display
The voice sounds like Miss Baofeng to me.
Sure does!
Im phreakin😮
All you had to do take the battery out and put back in. These watches go into low power mode if not used. No need to jump start that way, it’s a 1 cell battery. After putting back in do a complete reset and reprogram.
Hello @markskubal844.. I have a citizen eco drive as well that's not running.. so I'll just take out the battery and put it back in and it will work?
@@robniknikrob2577 it did for me. Only other thing I tried was I placed in the sun for a day to try and charge it. After that I removed it and put back in, and it worked and showed a full charge. I ran the reset procedure to set. Working great now.
Hi ,this for sale?
This one is not, sorry.
their website claims it can TX/RX across the 1.25m range of VHF, are you able to confirm that?
It allows me to enter frequencies in that range, but is not allowjng TX. I will play more and see what's up
@@fonephreak02 I've since received mine and after switching to unlock mode, and setting menu item 52 to "on" it does indeed TX on 1.25m, measured output about 1 watt. The caveat is that it won't let you program an offset on the radio, or via chirp (for now), but you can set the tx and rx w/ the appropriate repeater offset via the bluetooth app
Would it be possible to do a video on step-by-step procedure to update firmware either TH-H3 or TH-H8? Only one video out there and the OP bricked the radio. Cannot miss a step. But not sure the exact steps. Thanks
Yes! The procedure is the same for either radio.
My watch stopped working probably because I started too long in the dark. I left my watch charging in the sun for days. It still did not work. I removed the battery and the voltage was at 1.9 V. When I replaced the battery the watch started working again.
Yeah, that sometimes works apparently.
Is it possible to update FIRMWARE via bluetooth?
I am unsure. I did it via USB
Not yet. They are working on that ability.
