Villads Hoffmann - Dansen Ungdom (live from my father's violin workshop)
I love playing music in my father's violin workshop. The scent of wood and the resonance from the many instruments around feels quite special.
In January, I dropped by the workshop with my good friend and talented photographer Ivan Boll. He filmed some of the music from my latest solo album. Here, I play my favorite slängpolska from Sweden - "Dansen Ungdom."

Penny Pascal - An Evening in Warsaw (Polish Delicacies and Danish Tourist Attractions)
Переглядів 1962 роки тому
For their second concert ever(!) Penny Pascal were invited to play at the beautiful and prestigious Warsaw Philharmonic in Poland. Continuing their usual ‘modus operandi’ the band wrote completely new music to be performed for the first and only time for the polish audience. The music is in two ‘movements’ with the first drawing inspiration from common traditional Danish dance types, while the ...

I live streamed my release concert of my debut album Flaksepost På Himlen from my good friends Thor and Josefin's apartment in Majorna Gothenburg. We forgot to record the first 30 seconds of the stream, so the intro of the first piece is missing. Camera and stream edit: Thor Ahlgren camera, sound and percussion: Magnus Heebøll
Villads Hoffmann - Live Session on the Tram in Gothenburg
Переглядів 9453 роки тому
There is something almost magical about Gothenburg at night. The city lights and the restless trams driving around. It reminds me of a Miyazaki film and scenes from New York in the 70's at the same time. I took a tram ride from the central station to the end station and played some pieces from my new album Flaskepost På Himlen. Enjoy the trip. Camera and sound: Samuel Lundh Edit and mix: Villad...

Superb !
thank you!!
Is it tuned the same as the Quattro of Puerto 🇵🇷 Rico?
Mine is tuned CFCGC, so a bit different to the quatro, which is tuned in fourths all the way, if i am not mistaken. But my two lowest courses are toned in octaves as well. So there are definitely some similarities ☺
@VilladsHoffmann This is because your bazoukki has 10 strings, and the Quattro too.
@@CarlosVazquez-p4c ahh yes, make sense! Would be cool to try one one day
My Dad played Bach solo cello suites, and now my son plays the solo violin ones, while I struggle to do either on a Mandolin or Mandola. So; bravo, nice sound, good pace, especially to give the chords time to resonate... well done !
That is so nice to hear thanks a lot! It definitely took some time to make it work on my mandola. Really appreciate that you like my version of it.
sweet job
Thanks a lot!
Superb! Bravo!
Thanks a lot! I'm really happy that you like it!
Amazing!!
thanks a lot!!
Greeting from Dublin Ireland - thank you for sharing your beautiful music. 👏👏👏👏👏

Thaaanks a lot ! that is so nice to hear! <3 <3 <3
sweet job
My god , beautiful :) :) :)
Thanks a lot! I am happy that you like it
Nice!
thanks a lot!
Amazing
thanks a lot!
Wow! Beautiful 💜🔥
Thanks a lot!<3
This is just so peaceful. Thank you. Reminds me a bit of Andy McKee's style. Such a cool instrument. I wish more people knew about it and a performer like Villads is just the guy to make the citern a better known instrument.
wow, thanks for the kind words! So nice to hear ☺🙏
How is it tuned?? GDAD? P.s.: AMAZING!!!
Thanks a lot! It is a 5-course, so tuned CFCGC (DGDAD with capo on second fret)
I will be honest with you....: Congratulations! I think this is the most beautiful peace of song i've heard on the cittern, bouzouki--- MORE!!!
wow thanks a lot. I really appreciate your kind words! Thanks for listening!
Is it also in GDAD tuning like a bouzi?
Wwwwow this is so beautifull!!!
What an incredible concert, performance, and these are brilliant compositions! I wish that I was able to see this live.
Thanks a lot! Really happy that you like it. Where do you live? I will try and notice you if we are ever nearby
Please do! I live in Nashville but am frequently in Atlanta and Cincinnati if you ever have a show there.
Excellent 🤘
Thanks a lot!!
thank you for responding..can I ask another question pelase..how easy would it be to retune to ADGAD?
I am not really sure about that. Haven't tried that specific tuning on my cittern. It really depends on the string gauges you are using an the scale length of the instrument:)
can I please ask what pick you are using.. and thank you for the beautiful music!
Thanks for listening! I mainly use bluechip CT55 picks and Wegen TF120.
Absolutely gorgeous! I love octave mando in bluegrass and Irish folk but this style is also incredibly cool. This is the first time I''ve heard slängpolska, mind blown.
Thanks a lot! Slängpolska is probably my favourite melody type / dance from scandinavia. So nice to hear that you like it! ☺
Thank you, Villads
Thanks for listening!
Such a awesome tune Villads❤ can you or anybody else tell me which tuning this is?
Thanks a lot!<3 The tuning is CFcgc, and I use a capo here on Eb.
@@VilladsHoffmann thanks Villads :) I Hope my Octave Mando can handle the low Tension, otherwise I tune the hole thing 3 semitones up
@@Kochi306 you are welcome! Good luck☺
Just as beautiful as you earlier version. I don't know which I prefer.
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate that!
Fantastique!!!!!
🙏🙏🙏
Would love to build a cittern like that sometime in the future! Excellent production and playing
Thanks a lot! So happy to hear that you like the sound and my playing. And cool that you are inspired to build a cittern. Hope you'll do that one day.
Hi! I Love your music. I am also really captivated by your pleasant countenance. You look like you love your cittern. As a Bouzouki player I can relate. Will this album be on UA-cam Music anytime soon? I don’t have Spotify 🥲
Thanks a lot, yellow jacket! Really happy to hear that you like my music. 🙏🙏 hehe yea, i really fell in love with this instrument. I think that the music already is on UA-cam music, at least should be. Try and search for my name Villads Hoffmann. ☺
Very nicely done. How do you have your Bazouki tuned? In 5ths like a Violia perhaps? Wait, that has 5 string courses so I guess it is not a Bazouki. What is that instrument?
Thanks a lot ! Happy to hear that you like it. It is a cittern (kind of 10-string bouzouki). It tune it CFcgc - so the tuning is a mix of both fourths and fifths
On this instrument it sounds, weirdly, like something Middle-Eastern.
hehe yea, it reminds me of that too!
Very inspiring ❤ I’d love to purchase a cittern and learn. Any advice on where to begin? Thank you for putting your music out in the world ❤
Bravo! Ultra-clean!
Thanks a lot! Happy that you like it !
Nice collection on the wall friend!
hehe thanks alot! Though it is filmed in my father's workshop. He is a professional luthier 😄
@@VilladsHoffmann that’s a priceless opportunity for a student. I often think of learning that craft, but it’s hard to know where to even begin.
@@binary132 heh, yea indeed. I also just find it inspiring to play music among so many instruments.
Aggresively clean!
Thanks a lot!!
What is the tuning of the cittern here ?
It is CFCGC from bottom to the top. I always tune it like that, but here i play with a capo on D. ☺
Interesting 🤔 May I ask why you don’t just tune it all to a D tuning and take capo off?
@@michealoshea60 i use the capo all the time for playing in different keys. C just fits the scale length of the strings well on the instrument, and i like the open tuning, so a capo just makes it easier to change keys
Beautiful!!!
Thanks a lot!
Qué lindo y talentoso y estudioso eres!!!
Thanks a lot!
So beautiful…gorgeous tone and phrasing
Thanks a lot!!
Fantastisk musik og jeg er vild med at du smiler hele tiden🤗
Tusind tak! Hvor er det dejligt, at høre! ☺🙏
So brilliant, thank you.
Thanks a lot ! 🤍
A master;piece. And all played by ear!
Thanks a lot! 🙏🙏
Wow that was absolutely fabulous, it's such a joyful piece and that really shines through in your performance. Not easy to do when it's so challenging from a technical point of view! Great job.
Thanks a lot! It was definitely a challenge to get it to work technically. I am happy to hear that you enjoy it!
hot damn!!!!! (sorry) did he just do some kind of hammer on/off at about 2:00? Awesome. *I* reckon Bach created a beautiful piece of cloth that an expert can fashion into any kind of garment. ...wish I could put it better, really 🙂 and bell tones at the end? umm...... Wow. Just wow.
Thanks a lot for the very kind words Ian! Happy to hear that you like it. Yes, i do some hammer/pull-off ornaments at the mentioned place. A lot of the ornamenation that I do is inspired by nordic folk music, which I also play a lot of. So I like to put a folky touch on the baroque music. ☺
Who is the maker of your cittern? (Asked through a heartfelt smile bursting from your music)
Thanks a lot, i'm so happy to hear that you like my music! The maker of my cittern is Mats Nordwall - Nordwall Instruments.
damn, this is cleaner than my house. true master
hehe, thanks a lot! That is really nice to hear! 🙏🙏
x
Beautiful, well done!
Thanks a lot! 🙏
That was really lovely. Thoroughly enjoying this latest music from you.
Thanks a lot, Andrew ! I really appreciate to hear that 🙏🙏
Very pretty! A little haunting... I love progs that start on the 4. What kind of violin strings are you using? They almost look like Warchals. (which btw you should totally try if you haven't... both the ambers and timbres)
Thanks a lot, Alisha! So nice to hear you like it. Hehe, i also really like chord progression that start on 4 😄 I use Pirastro Perpetual on my violin. Ahh yea, i have about Warchals. Will check them out, if i get the chance!
