Starting the session with flysurfer hybrid 5,5m², unfortunately the wind dropped around 12 kn, which is not enough for my 89kg. Swapping to the Flysurfer hybrid 7,5m² and the wind picked up again from 15-20kn. Nice session with some nice small waves. pre-inflating the kites gives a much better lanch, but don't preinflate too much. #OsmoAction @osmo_global rider is 89 kg, sabfoil 633 foil F-one ...

    Yes, love it! What I found out on my last session, what you seemed to have learned along the way: Jump, and then just coast for a short while, keeping the board and foil stable before starting to pump! As soon as I did that, I had a much higher success rate! Keep it up!

    Had no idea these things can Hindenberg. How is the drift of this if you were to compare it with an aluula surf style kite in normal winds. Those have amazing drift and you can foil directly at it without it dropping out of the sky. Only if you outrun the wind speed will you end up in trouble with those.

    • @yannickver
      @yannickver 2 дні тому

      This are extreme light wind conditions. An inflatable will never fly in such conditions. And here the kite falls out of the sky because I made steering errors. With proper technique it will nog happen. With 6 kn you can foil with this kite (but nog easy). There was a demo Alula type of kite in my club as a demo kite and in light wind performance it was less good than this hyperlink. (flying, lowend and water restart and they were more expensive.) Ram air kite will never be the fastest turning kites, but they are the most powerfull. Good for light wind freeride and all the racing stuff. Upwind angle is just insane. Not good for wave ride because they are too slow. For me the ultimate drift kite is the flysurfer hybrid and peak. (hybrid being slightly for drift but less power)

    Thank you for the video. I'm thinking of buying either an FS Hybrid or a Hysper V3. I have the same foil and weigh the same as you. It would be for riding small wind waves in onshore wind conditions, so I need a kite that drifts well. I currently have the Peak5 4m, but when the wind drops, especially near the shore, it backstalls, and a couple of times, I haven't been able to recover it. This is partly because I was going too far downwind and partly due to the lack of wind. I've been tempted to get a Peak5 5m to avoid this, but I think a hybrid kite might handle this style of riding better. Do you think for 12-18/20 knots, a 5.5 or 7.5 would be better? Perhaps a 5m Hysper V3 could also fit within this range, I believe. I'm more into parking the kite, depowering, and letting the wave carry me. I already have too many kites, and it's hard to test them before buying, so I wouldn’t want to make the wrong choice. What’s your take on this?

    • @yannickver
      @yannickver 29 днів тому

      Hi Marka, The peak and hybrid are completely different, a lot of peak users don't like the hybrids. Less direct, less power and too gentle. For me the peak was perfect but no water restart was a no go after a few swimming sessions. I don't know the hysper, cannot comment on that. With 12kn you need a hybrid 7,5. 5,5 is usable with 14-15kn. With 18-20 kn you can even go to a size smaller than 5,5. I think safe bet from 12kn on to 20 is the 7,5, but with 20 kn and 7,5 it will not be big fun anymore. I think you need 2 size to have comfortable riding in that range. The drift and stablity from the hybrid is superb and better than the peak. power is less, and rest like upwind is equal for me. so far i'm really happy with my hybrids, and don't regret the switch after 2 years. Maybe a hybrid 2 will come out in comming months, might we worth the wait if you are not in a hurry. HOpe this helps.

    • @markabril7543
      @markabril7543 27 днів тому

      Thank you for the response. I was already assuming that the 5.5m Hybrid might be closer in range to the 4m Peak5, which needs over 15 knots to drift well. Maybe I’ll wait for the new Hybrid or order the new Hysper V3, which is better priced. What I’ve noticed is that, despite the negative reviews, the Hybrid doesn’t drop in price, while a Peak can already be found with discounts of up to 40%. Thanks a lot, and good winds!

      @@markabril7543 i have a few video's with light wind foiling on my channel with the 7,5m². With 11 kn it drifts well, for me it's fast enough but the 5,5 is more fun but 18-20kn will be too much. ua-cam.com/video/Hcb0n2rFh_U/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/akzLj40PMN8/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/IdhlTWRgtTg/v-deo.html

    • @markabril7543
      @markabril7543 26 днів тому

      I understand you’re referring to the 7.5m, which is quite a lot-18-20 knots. How much wind does the 5.5m need to get going with just a single dive, without doing loops? I’m talking about the comfortable range. For me, my go-to kite for 80% of the time is an Airush Ultra 6m. I can start using it when I see twin-tip riders began going up wind with their 12m kites, and I can handle it up to 18 knots. If the wind is above 15 knots and I expect it to reach 18-20 knots, I set up an Ultra 5m. If there are waves, I take out the Peak5 4m, which is equivalent to the Ultra 6m. The issue is that, on the shore where the waves are, there’s often 2 or 3 knots less wind. So it’s all about getting it right and using a kite that can handle those wind lulls while drifting. I’ve got almost all Ultra sizes for “freestyle” and also a 13m and 8m Peak for when I don’t feel like inflating or as backup kites in case the wind drops.

    • @markabril7543
      @markabril7543 26 днів тому

      I mean the 6m LEI is perfect size in those conditions but of course it doesn't dritf as well a Peak and has a strong pull that not allow you feel as much the foil.

    I'm no expert so I'd like to have your feedback. I think that the dry spot might be owed to the extra layers you put on the back which led the flow to choose the quickest path. I was actually wondering why you just used 1 inlet and 1 outlet with so much space to fill. At first I though about an inlet from above but you risk not to get resin on the bottom. Seeing that, I would have possibly done 2 ways: 1) same as you plus a second inlet from above in the rear part 2) same as you but starting the inlet from the rear part, so it gets resin first. And maybe 2 outlets to be clamped avcording to the direction you want the flow to have.

    • @yannickver
      @yannickver Місяць тому

      Hello, I’m not an expert either. I just try to make boards and to improve my technique every time. So thanks for your feedback. The board is small so 1 inlet should be enough. The path the epoxy has to flow should be maximum +/- 500mm, as my board is only 430mm width this is ok. I also prefer to have slow infusions (that’s also the reason I use slow curing epoxy). I think the biggest mistake I made on this board is that I only used flow media on 1 side of the board, I should have done it on both sides. I should also have put more flow media: the area with resin brakes was almost larger than the area with flow media. Adding more inlets is always a possibility but I think this board is too small to need multiple inlets. A better positioning of the flow media in this case could have prevented the dry spot.

    Why did you choose infusion ?

    • @yannickver
      @yannickver 2 місяці тому

      I choose for infusion as it is a clean technique, with standard wet lamination you have resin everywhere. When well done it also gives you the correct fibre/resin ratio (60:40 fibre to resin). My goal is to make light constructions, the strength of your composite comes from your fibres so you just want enough resin to keep everything together. Too much resin increases the weight of your board but not the strength.

    RE- the extra weight. PVC foam is VERY porous on its outer layer. If you try to wet laminate some fiberglass on a small section (so you can see through it) you will find that it takes a ton of epoxy to fully wet out the pores on the the Dcell. You should fill it with the lightest possible fairing compound you can find (West 410) in order to keep the weight down. You can then give it a light sanding before infusion, or infuse/glass when it's tacky.

    • @Helic4

      None with dockstart foil pumping, but I also tried beachstart foil pumping and I got a big fincut on my big toe... visit to the urgencies and I got 5 stitches.

    I tried this two times. No Chance. Very difficult. Very cool 👍

      Yes, it's very hard. Bruno is the rider here and he trained several months several sessions per week to be able to pump himself on the foil. He was already a very well trained supper before going to supoil.

    Nice build and good videos! What is the final weight?

    • @yannickver
      @yannickver 2 місяці тому

      Thx, the final from this first board was 2,45kg but it's rock solid. Too solid. Our second board is 2 kg, and there is still a lot of improvement possible at our technique. We will continue to experiment and post our results.
