  • @salvadorfonseca165
    @salvadorfonseca165 13 днів тому

    Why does everyone do each command separate for updating? Why not just put "sudo apt update && apt full-upgrade -y" to get everything done and over with? I'm not going to lie but so far a lot of things you do, I do differently. Like instead of "sudo su" I do "sudo -s". Also I just type exit to get out of root user mode and/or to close the terminal. Also it people are using something like Windows 11, they will have to go into Windows Firewall>Advanced settings>Inbound rules and enable 'Change Virtual Machine Monitoring (Echo request- ICMPv4-In).

    Howdy. I am new to this and stumbled upon a problem. I have Kali on both VM and WSL. I prefer working with WSL as my attacking machine. I have set up Mr. Robot's machine on VM as well. The settings were a bridge network, and the same was true for the Kali on VM. My problem is, that I could not get a reverse shell, from either my VSL or VM Kali machines. It all worked fine and I could solve the challenges, but I have tried a lot of things, that might have helped me, but nothing worked. What could be the problem?

    • @CyberStudies
      @CyberStudies Місяць тому

      Thanks for watching! Honestly, it’s really hard to tell without knowing your set up. When you say you have “Kali on WSL”, is that windows in a VM? I personally don’t like using the bridge connection because your virtual machine will be talking to everything on your network (think network discovery). Ideally you would have your two VMs segmented on a network and isolated away from everything else. Best of luck!

    • @TraceursMonkey
      @TraceursMonkey Місяць тому

      @@CyberStudies It's windows bare metal. And Kali instance on WSL. On vm, oracle virtual box, is the Mr.Robot, with the network setting as bridge network.

    • @CyberStudies
      @CyberStudies Місяць тому

      Hmmmm idk if that’s how I’d do it; to take it to an extreme case you could “iNfEcT” your host machine and everything of importance. That being said, you could try placing the Mr Robot VM in bridged or host-only networking and point your host to that. Did you setup a DHCP server to assign out the IP addresses?

    • @TraceursMonkey
      @TraceursMonkey Місяць тому

    I have a BS in Cyber Security, retired in 2016 after running IT shops for the last 10 years of my military career. Although I had the degree and years of experience, I got passed over for a position that was given to a non-IT person with only a certification.... One of my former Soldiers that I pushed IT certs on back in 2007, is now the IT Director for a very profitable company... Certs are the best way to get into IT/Cyber Security hands down.

      Thanks for watching! Yeah I hate to push certifications so much because I don’t 100% believe that they’re a good representation of “knowing things” BUT I don’t have my degree (yet) and I’m thriving in my career with just certs lol. so here is a thing. the fact that google can display those ftp site contents means google has actually accessed that site and is displaying the content in html format. you are not FTPing into those sites, GOOGLE IS and then displaying it in your browser on port 80 and not direct using ftp port and protocol. The only time you are connecting is when you actually download to your computer. And if you are using a vpn etc you may be untraceable. providing you have not logged into google say by gmail. then google have your IP. Just saying.

    Hahahaha! Unless you get an industry recognized cert with it, that $500 is flushed. You need a bare minimum of a Comptia Security+, a CISA or CISSP is what the industry really wants.

      Thank you for watching! That’s tough because while I see the value in certifications; jobs like GRC don’t have those industry recognized certs like Sec+ or CISSP. I also just checked CompTIA’s site and for you to get the cert and the pdf study guide it’s almost $600. Tack on the interactive lab and you’re over $1k. I personally believe in investing in yourself and allocating an annual budget for learning. $500 is the going rate these days *shrug*

      @@CyberStudies You highlighted ISC2's CISSP, which is fantastic, but it seems you might have overlooked their GRC certification.
