Saw her a month or so ago, I genuinely think she is one of the most prolific and wonderful storytellers of all time. So personable and beautiful. Her music has gotten me through the worst of times and the best.

Hi! There was a TV special, sort of "unplugged" type thing (can't remember if it was really all-acoustic but definitely not MTV). It must have been around 1990 as the setlist was mostly Days of Open Hand. I'm 100% sure that Rusted Pipe and Tired of Sleeping were played. A short setlist (maybe 5 to 7 songs?). Anyway, I had it on VHS but lost it long ago. Now looking around the web and can't find it (can't remember the name, but if I see it I will absolutely recognize it). I tried the SV subreddit but no help. Maybe you know what I'm talking about? Thank you! Love your videos x

In terms of Vega totally rocking it out with a band, this is the best concert of hers I've ever seen by far. And I am fairly expert on Vega. At other times, when she tries to rock out certain songs of hers, something will be lacking...the tempo will be a little slow or off or the sound may not be well adjusted for the audience, or whatever. This time, EVERYTHING was right. She had a first-rate band, the sound was all put together really well, and she was in absolute top form. So, in addition to that, I will also provide a setlist and give the approximate times for each song in the setlist. 1) 0:33 - Song of David (Rock in this Pocket) 2) 4:48 - Caramel 3) 8:10 - Casual Match 4) 12:09 - Small Blue Thing 5) 12:09 - Marlene on the Wall 6) 19:30 - Headshots 7) 23:11 - No Cheap Thrill 8) 26:22 - The Queen and The Soldier 9) 31:43 - World Before Columbus 10) 35:16 - Woman on the Tier (I'll See You Through) 11) 38:09 - Blood Makes Noise 12) 41:24 - In Liverpool 13) 48:57 - Luka 14) 52:34 - Birthday Now, as for standouts, I ABSOLUTELY have to recommend listening to two songs from this concert. 1) In Liverpool - In Liverpool is really her most versatile song. It is both really good when it is stripped down and just her and her guitar. She can even provide really good dramatic change in tempo and overall intensity from one part of the song very effectively all by herself, doing this acoustic. She's such a good songwriter that the dramatic change in musicality is even effectively written into the lyrics. In addition, it is also extremely good when given a full backup. The song on the original studio album is great, and it can be great with a full band rocking it out. The video, itself, is arguably her best, as well. As far as rocking it out, Vega and the band rocked this one out of the ballpark. So, this is Vega's most versatile song delivered at Vega's best and most amply instrumentalized. 2) Birthday - Birthday is Vega's hardest rocking song. No other song of hers can compare to rocking it as hard as this song does. And here she is with the best band backup I have ever heard. In this concert, and most especially with "In Liverpool" and MOREOVER, "Birthday", she far and away transcends her "Adult Alt Folk" genre and becomes a full-fledged rock goddess. Suzanne Vega - A Full Fledged Rock Goddess. Who knew?

It's nice hear this clip! There was a live recording of this song from a concert in England that was pressed up into a very limited vinyl single. But I think this version from The Bottom Line is better! It was a rare Suzanne Vega song where the band was essentially winging it. Most songs were carefully rehearsed.
