Signe Marie Rustad
Norway
Приєднався 22 бер 2019
Norwegian-American singer/songwriter Signe Marie Rustad was born and raised on a farm in central Norway, where the forest, river and fields have filled her with a deep calmness and never-ending restlessness. As a result, many of her songs carry within them a search for a balance between these elements.
After catching the attention of the growing americana-loving audience in Norway with 2012 debut Golden Town - the title a reference to her mother's hometown Golden, Colorado - Rustad secured her first Spellemann (Norwegian Grammy) nomination with critically acclaimed second album Hearing Colors Seeing Noises (2016).
Third album When Words Flew Freely (2019) earned Rustad her first Spellemann (Norwegian Grammy) as Lyricist of The Year.

Lyrics & music by Signe Marie Rustad
At midnight when we meet
You wear a smile so sweet
Makes me never wonder why I came
I take you by the arm
And then we walk around
Every corner
Every street
Every part of town
I used to walk these streets you tell me
But I wasn’t really here
Where were you then
I ask you answer
In between somewhere
Now in the morning while we eat
We hardly ever speak
Still our conversations run so deep
Just the two of us in here
On these wooden chairs
Makes me feel the floor beneath my feet
I used to walk these floors I tell you
But I wasn’t really here
Where were you then
You ask I answer
On the edge somewhere
Now we’ve stirred up a fright
‘Cause it just can’t be right
To be somewhere and really not be there
But it’s gonna be all right
‘Cause spread out through the night
There are people in their houses
There is light
We used to walk these streets we’ll tell them
But we weren’t really here
Our bodies were
But our hearts and minds they were
Way up there somewhere
And we were trying to figure out the truth
Trying to make it clear
To ourselves
We do indeed belong somewhere

"Bark Up Someone Else's Tree" is about how it's easy to close your eyes to the stuff that doesn't work in a relationship, as long as there is passion and you (think you) are in love. Looking in the rearview mirror, you might have known all along what would be the downfall, but letting go when you are emotionally attached to someone can be extremely hard. At least it is for me. - Signe Marie Rus...

Got to perform one of my favourite Dylan songs, "Changing of the Guards", w/ The Salmon Smokers at Bobfest, Oslo Konserthus May 24th 2021. Such a great night! Thanks for letting me be a part of it. This was at the very end of a several month long Covid-lockdown in Oslo, so an audience was not allowed. However, NRK filmed it all, and later broadcasted the show on Norwegian television.

Genius song. Genius performance.
Great song choice 👍 and excellent job with it 👏
I wonder what it would be like just sitting across from her in a diner or some other unimportant place. Just knowing that her internal magnificence exceeds her outer incalculable grace. I know I couldn’t endure the moment.
I’ll say it again. She inspires me every time I listen to her sing ANYTHING ❤
I thought that was Tom Waites on. Piano
❤❤ super.
🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤voz linda , uma linda canção.🎼🎸🥂🥂
Sixteen years Sixteen banners united over the field Where the good shepherd grieves Desperate men, desperate women divided Spreading their wings 'neath the falling leaves Fortune calls I stepped forth from the shadows to the marketplace Merchants and thieves, hungry for power, my last deal gone down She's smelling sweet like the meadows where she was born On midsummer's eve, near the tower The cold-blooded moon The captain waits above the celebration Sending his thoughts to a beloved maid Whose ebony face is beyond communication The captain is down but still believing that his love will be repaid They shaved her head She was torn between Jupiter and Apollo A messenger arrived with a black nightingale I seen her on the stairs and I couldn't help but follow Follow her down past the fountain where they lifted her veil I stumbled to my feet I rode past destruction in the ditches With the stitches still mending 'neath a heart-shaped tattoo Renegade priests and treacherous young witches Were handing out the flowers that I'd given to you The palace of mirrors Where dog soldiers are reflected The endless road and the wailing of chimes The empty rooms where her memory is protected Where the angels' voices whisper to the souls of previous times She wakes him up Forty-eight hours later, the sun is breaking Near broken chains, mountain laurel and rolling rocks She's begging to know what measures he now will be taking He's pulling her down and she's clutching on to his long golden locks Gentlemen, he said I don't need your organization, I've shined your shoes I've moved your mountains and marked your cards But Eden is burning, either getting ready for elimination Or else your hearts must have the courage for the changing of the guards Peace will come With tranquility and splendor on the wheels of fire But will bring us no reward when her false idols fall And cruel death surrenders with its pale ghost retreating Between the King and the Queen of Swords
This is one of my favorite Dylan songs. Signe Marie's performance is great! The best cover of this song! Love!
BEAUTIFUL
Listen to this song almost every day. It sounds better each time.
Nah Patti's smith versión is the best
Could well be in my top 5 favourite songs. Couldn't be sung or played any better.

Please, EVERYONE, do not limit yourselves exclusively to this Signe performance, find other songs, videos etc., every place you stop will fill your heart and soul, she is an unparalleled singer, dancer, performer. Bob.

Man, this is beautiful.
She sings it like she wrote it,,,, bravo
I think Bob would step aside during one of his own concerts and let her sing this song and just listen in awe and appreciation. ❤

That was awesome!
Beautifully done! Thank you
This is really quite nice! It kinda has a similar feel to it as songs from Tori Amos’ UNDER THE PINK album, which is high praise on both accounts. Rustad originally caught my attention with her captivatingly haunting interpretation of Bob Dylan’s CHANGING OF THE GUARD, so I look forward to hearing more of her engaging compositions in the future.
Said wonderfully, and I so agree, as I have had the exact same experience as you.
Oh this rendition, so good it hurts. SMR & Bjørge as a duo is something special to treasure for sure. Such a beautiful performance of this original Rustad song, with soooo good lyrics. Just voice & piano: Powerful!
Everything about Signe Marie's music is uplifting and charming. I believe she must be such a lovely and open person too.
Cadê o ritmo?!??? Ela fez igual à _Beat it_ do Milton Nascimento, castrou a pobre da canção! Tirou-lhe o punch! Sem a banda pra ajudá-la, fica ainda pior!
This is brilliant. She really nails the intangibles.
I've always been a dog lover I have And so I told you I don't mind her sleeping in your bed Even when I spent the night And her slobber would be all over The pillow where I laid my head Then when you and I were through She'd fall asleep on top of you But I was still connected in my mind To you Why does it seem so hard to find Someone who'll stay awake and walk the line A dog can fill the void of What you're trying to avoid But then inevitably lust comes along And the passion that we shared Was so beautiful and rare Your fluffy four legged had to back down Now I know I got it wrong Mistaking something sweet for love I didn't mean to lead your bold heart on I loved you in the heat of it I did Then it turned out that you were just a kid So pack your mad ways With the rest of our days I am not here to tame Your jealousy waves Put that beast on a leash Take your damned pet please I should have told you to your face Take your dog and go bark up someone else's tree It was working for a while I can still think of it and smile The way you'd slip your hands around my waist Then she threw up on my couch That day you left her at my house We never quite recovered after that Our physical excuse covered up your childhood bruises But that little boy was on your every breath I loved you in the heat of it I did But it turned out that you were just a kid So pack your mad ways With the rest of our days I am not here to tame Your jealousy waves Put that beast on a leash Take your damned pet please I should have told you to your face Take your dog and go bark up someone else's tree
This is great!
Thank you🥰

I was down at the Y-place Just kicking up sand Again into my own face Man, when's it gonna end In this damn concrete desert Where I don't fit in Well I guess the best music Don't come from easy living Sing me upstream Help me come clean Strung out But hopeful Just like when I was 17 On my way home to you I'm gonna bark at the moon And I won't take my boots off Anytime soon So the night came with darkness But there's plenty of light In a pure golden heartfelt Voice that breaks the ice So will you play me that one track Will you help me survive I know it sounds dramatic But you've got to keep me alive Sing me upstream Help me come clean Strung out But hopeful Just like when I was 17 On my way home to you I'm gonna bark at the moon And I won't take my boots off Anytime soon Paper night Curled up morning You are dirty and dry But we'll make a boat of it And we'll send it through the pipes Of this half-sleeping city Well I heard you last night You were singing songs not out of pity You sang for your life Sing me upstream Help me come clean Strung out But hopeful Just like when I was 17 On my way home to you I'm gonna bark at the moon And I won't take my boots off Anytime soon
