Talat Kao (Old Market) - Leng Buai Ia Market Chinatown - Bangkok Thailand 2025
Talat Kao and Leng Buai Ia Market are both located in Bangkok’s Chinatown, specifically in the Yaowarat area. Talat Kao, also known as the Old Market, is a popular wet market that becomes especially busy during Chinese festivals.
It is situated on Soi Yaowarat 11. Leng Buai Ia Market, located on Soi Yaowarat 6, is opposite Talat Kao and shares the same level of popularity. The Leng Buai Ia Shrine, an important Chinese temple within Leng Buai Ia Market, is believed to be the oldest Chinese shrine in Thailand, dating back to 1658 during the Ayutthaya period.
Talat Kao (Old Market) is located in the heart of Chinatown, Bangkok. This ancient market is over 150 years old and is more of a curiosity to visit than a shopping destination.
It transforms into a street food market in the evening, offering a unique experience. Most visitors find it interesting to see the various stalls and products on offer, including some unusual items for health. In some cases it can be difficult to determine what is being sold in the stalls, and the market is more suited for exploration than shopping.
Overall, Talat Kao (Old Market) is a fascinating place to visit, especially in the evening when it comes alive with street food vendors.
Enjoy the video!

Chinatown only exist in people imagination. It's not a real place, same as Mt.Fuji 😂😂😂 according to your comment Endless Journey
@@keinlina lol you saw that comment to one of my friends in Japan. It’s a running joke because of all the times I’ve been to Japan I’ve never seen Mt Fuji because of the clouds. I’ve even been right past it on the train and it was completely socked in by clouds. It’s teasing me with always hiding.
Is there any ticket to see this temple?
@@asiabhumi it is free to enter. It’s a bit away from downtown but you can get close by the BTS and then take a taxi or motorcycle taxi to the temple.
Can you get by seeing this place without having to take your shoes off? (I can’t take my shoes off due to a disability). How steep, how hard, how long was the stair walk up?
@@chadw.6049 you can walk around the outside with your shoes on but it would be very impolite to wear them inside the buildings with the Buddha images. Once the building is consecrated you don’t wear footwear inside of them, not even sandals. The stairs are a bit of a climb and would be difficult for anyone that has a problem climbing them. There is a little cable car that you can take and is generally in operation. It seems like there are about 100-120 stairs if you go that way. Going to the top of the pagoda is only accessible by stairs and it was several stories and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you really want to see the relic at the top. I hope this helps.

This is really an amazing Temple. Many thanks for showing. An interesting thing abt Confucius Temples is that they don’t have any idol of any diety to worship, they have writings of Confucius at the centre. This resembles much with Sikhism and Judaism. Both of these faith don’t have any idols but keep their books at the centre of worship hall and revere it. In Sikhs it’s their Holy Book Guru Granth Sahib in Gurudwaras and for Jews it’s Torah Scroll in Synagogues. This is an interesting parallel. Also loved that part where people are motivated to learn Archery and other arts. Despite you saying that it’s not that decorated like other Chinese Temples, I find their art (whatever limited form it is) really stinking and amazing. A Question? Do these Confucius followers believe in any concept like God or if not god then some supernal limitless, Omnipotent power?
@@singhjasbeer5216 I really like the styling as well. I was told that the top of the buildings and gates is a dove tail design. It’s simple yet elegant. Amazing Chris how awesome I will be in Bangkok in April and I am planning a trip to petchaburi To see the cave temple So can you please tell me about the train Like the fare and anything that might help me Oh I from USA Thanks so much Michael
@@johndavis9916 the Kiha 183 was a special trip. When these run they are usually around 1,500 Baht. There is actually one running today. They include lunch and the excursions while on the trip. I haven’t done the one to Petchaburi since this trip. The normal train is much cheaper but the activities are on you to pay for and arrange. The ordinary train is only like 30 Baht from Bangkok. It’s the way I would go personally since you can do things at your own pace without having to rush or wait on other people. You also might see something else interesting and stop to check it out. The app I use for the trains is the “SRT Timetable” App. You should be able to download it through the US App Store. I can’t remember now which one I downloaded it through because I switch between the Thai and the US depending on which one I need. Is this the cave temple you are going to? Beautiful ❤
@SecretsofThailand this is a pretty cool temple. I saw another image like this recently in Kaohsiung City in Taiwan. Always fun to see things like this.
😅😅😅
@นภัสกรรักษาจิตร-ข5ฬ thanks for watching.
Here is the full video of the memorial if you want to see more of it. Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall 國立中正紀念堂 - Must See in Taipei - Taiwan 2024 ua-cam.com/video/4k7Ot1nNOu8/v-deo.html
is there a fee for the Visa on Arrival? I want to go to Cambodia for 3 weeks soon. I understand about the registration of the bike etc which you need to do in advance. As i understand it, you just turn up at the border and ask for tourist visa as you enter. Just wondered if there is a fee, or is that what the 1,200 was for that you had to pay?
@@nickmondo222 their is no fee to take your motorcycle into Cambodia. The Thai side charged me 50 Baht to print the papers. I had them already but they still charged me. It was a small thing. The 1,200 Baht was for the visa itself. No other fee for crossing the border. It was pretty easy. Make sure you tell the Thai side what border crossing you will use when you return to Thailand. I came back home through PoiPet and they charged me a 10 Baht inspection fee when they filled out a form for my motorcycle. That was the only charge returning and was really easy. I went through O’Smach because online people were saying they had issues crossing into Cambodia at PoiPet. I didn’t want a hassle so I went through O’Smach instead.
This temple is really beautiful, I watched that portion from 0:55 to 2:05 two three times. That feel of serenity and calmness is profound over here. Also the murals inside that old room at 3:44 👍 Thank you for showing this. In my recent visit to Thailand only I came to know that Chinese are the big donors of Buddhist temples in Myanmar, Thailand also other south east Asian countries too. This is believable coz the era in which we live Chinese people (including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore) are touted to be of higher income groups compared to other nationalities. Do you know anything about it?
@@singhjasbeer5216 this temple is a hidden gem in Lopburi. It’s not well known to tourists because everyone goes there to see the Khmer prang with all of the monkeys or to king Narai’s palace. I really love the little Mondrop with the murals. I always am looking for temples with them. The Chinese have really started donating money into Thai temples. You can see so many new ones being built now compared to 5-10 years ago. There are also many people of Chinese descent that live here. My wife’s father is Chinese and many of my students are as well. Some of them even speak Chinese at home instead of Thai.
@ Ahh Google says that 14-15% of Thais have Chinese ancestory. At many places there was no English but Thai & Chinese. Regarding donation part it was a local guy who told me about Chinese being biggest donors of Buddhist Temples apart from locals. This is other than Chinese descent people. It was a sweet surprise rather for me specially when taken into consideration that Mainland China’s Govt tightly controls Buddhist Temples and Monasteries and that being a communist nation many people have lost faith also the fact that many temples were destroyed during cultural revolution.
@ this is one example of Chinese money that is being invested in Thai temples. The locals told me that is how it’s being built. They are currently constructing a 160 meter tall Buddha. The wood carvings are amazing. The only thing close to it that I have ever seen is a Buddha in Beijing that was carved into a living tree and they built a temple around it.

@endlessjourneytravels Hi. Exactly the video I've been looking for to fill a tough info gap in my trip planning. Especially appreciated the pictures of the schedules and signs. Thanks a bunch.
@@_onesimpleidea glad to help. It’s a nice trip and fun to do. Enjoy and appreciate the view.
I remember seeing a 45 minute documentary which covered religions of Taiwan and Goddess Mazu’s part was the longest one. Glad to see her dedicate temple is such detail. The artistically overwhelming Temples like these just takes breadth away.
@@singhjasbeer5216 I would like to see that. If you remember the name or have the link share it with me please. This is the temple I told you about a few days ago. Really very nice. I have one coming up from the Confucius Temple also that I will post soon.

@@endlessjourneytravels It’s titled How in Taiwan spirituality and modern life goes together | VPRO Documentary I have shared the link above please do tell me how did you like it, I learned a lot from this Documentary about Mazu
@ thanks for sharing that video. I watched it with my wife and she enjoyed it just as much as I did. I really would love to go with the pilgrims when they carry the Mazu statue around. The whole festival looked amazing. I will look into it more and maybe be able to see it some day.
@ very nice video. Was interesting to see a few places I’ve been. I’ve never been to that waterfall on dragon mountain. I will make a point to go see it next time.
