    Recently took a job at a big shop here in town as there painter. There product line is cromax and I've always been a basf / (diamont) guy .I had purchased this gun from a fellow painter needing money and I've never liked satas , only because I'm not as comfortable with its settings as I am my iwatas but this gun has really , really impressed me. Big Red, I have a bonnett just like that one that I'm working on. Painted it black and applied 3 coats, but didn't lay down as good as I wanted to and had quite a bit of trash in it. Thought about flow coating it. Trying not to apply too much clearcoat, but when you flow coat do you have to apply to coats? I was just wondering if i applied 2 more coats, would 5 coats total be too much?

    • @bigred3188
      @bigred3188 Рік тому

      5 coats is a lot but if you are going to flow coat it you are going to sand it back first making sure to remove all the dirt etc so technically you will be removing 1-2 layers of clear as you sand it back so I would say if you do that then apply two more coats it will be fine just remember to allow for flashing in between

      @@bigred3188 I started sanding my hood getting it ready to flow coat. I started with 600 grit dry on the da, then moved to 800 grit dry on the da. For some reason the clear is clogging my sandpaper and leaving pigtails. I mixed the clear 2 to 1 per tds. The hood air dried for 2 days. High temperatures been in the 80' and low in the 50's. Can you think of what could cause that or a way to fix it, or is that something that I may would have to strip it and start over

    • @bigred3188
      @bigred3188 Рік тому

      to me it doesn’t sound fully cured it’s still soft try seeing if you can leave an indent with your thumb nail if so still fresh and honestly the grit paper to use depends on how bad the condition of the finish if it’s not too bad I usually just denib any spots with 600-800 dry or 1000-1200 wet then sand the whole thing back 800 dry carefully but once again depends on the condition of the finish and what you are trying to achieve and if you are fully cured or not but seeing as you have 3 coats on there I’m leaning towards you need to cure for longer

    @scottherr642 4 роки тому

    Hi Red By epoxy hybrid I meant one of the newer 3n1 primers that are urethane epoxy mixtures(valspar kd2000 or house of color kda 3000) I use hok kda 3000. They dont ball up if you need to sand out a boo boo. I was hoping ppg was throwing their hat in the ring w/ their own version. I use the EPX industrial copy of DPLF which is what I think the other commenter was referring to as it is more of a very dark brown than the black it's supposed to be. Otherwise it is identical to DPLF in every way but price lol. My usual on a job like yours here is epx in the closest color on the bare metal panel followed by hok kda 3000 mixed 4:1:2 as WOW sealer then base/clear. The hybrid can be used/mixed 4:1 as hi build, 4:1:1 med build, or like I said WOW but imho is way to pricey to use as any but sealer. Its advantages are better bare steel adhesion on cut throughs with much better sand ability than epoxy mixed as sealer and I think the epoxy aids in less shrink than urethane sealer alone.. Sorry for the book. Please keep posting I really enjoy your work excellent style.

      Scott Herr hey mate thanks for taking the time to watch my video and to help you out this epoxy is 410-48248, as far as hybrid I’m not sure what you mean but you apply this then do any body work needed then you must hi fill primer over the top or wet on wet (sealer) you cannot top coat straight over this epoxy I hope that helps answer your question my friend

      @bigred3188 4 роки тому

      Mark Chacon honestly I’m not sure what you would have access to as I’m in Australia but one product I know of is call all you need and it is an epoxy that allows you to seal any bare metal and sticks to bare metal and you can top coat over it but I haven’t personally so I’m not sure but if you get yourself and etch primer spray that first then hifill prime straight over it after 30mins then once dry sand it down and paint over it mate
