Hello, on the video it seems to me that Jeff Porcaro gives an accentuating effect on the 2 and 4 of the Hit Hat by opening it slightly and he does not seem to hit this hit with the whole shoulder of the stick but just after the olive, what do you think?
truthfully, my idea for this channel is to give you a good understanding. a way to do this groove that not only will get you through the gig, get you through well, but help you and all your other grooves. you might be right I've watched his video, I've listened to it a thousand times. I'm pretty damn close.
You don't have the right hand correct.. it's basically every other time
Take you all the way! ROSANNA YEAH!
Ramacue......Gadd calls it.
Someone can be your favorite drummer and that doesn't mean they are perfect. The great Bernard Purdie should stick to playing the drums, but stop drowning in his own lies. From an old Modern Drummer interview where he also claims to have replaced Keith Moon, to a YT video where he claims to have recorded Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew". The truth will never set him free.
Met Alan tonight, great guy : ) What a career ! Much respect 🙏
thankyou. great lesson
Thanks for this video, this was very fun to learn
ultimate bill in birmingham england 1969 led zeppelin vanilla fudge both amazing bands that influenced each other of course john henry bonhams homeland
100% agree, I think there are two parts there. As someone who makes noise with drums also, it has always sounded to me like Ringo overdubs on that section of the song.
in 68 there was no band better than Vanilla Fudge, not that it was the best, but that there was no one better. For me, 'prog rock' started with them. And I was always struck by the voices all on the exact same 'vibrato wave', and all beautiful voices. I have noticed how many great artists came out of that same area of NYC. Lastly, not, I was fortunate enough to see Cactus, with Appice and Bogert two nights in a row at Detroit's Eastown Theatre. And that was another awesome band, which gave its all on stage and no one ever came close to that energy combined with that musicianship in my perspective.
Your practice room is EXACTLY what the world pictures when you ask ,"What does a drummer's house look like?"
Even if Ringo didn't play, it feels better to believe he did.
Nearly 1k subscribers... let's go!
Good stuff right there my son !
In a word: NO.
Dear Glenn, thank you for that video - these African grooves are hot! Drums sound great, and I'd recommend using a separate mic for your voice. Makes it a lot easier listening to your explanations. Best regards from Europe, Dr. Anymemm
I'm trying guy, these last couple of months tough but probably in the next two weeks I'll pick one up.
@@glenngiordano8286 Personally I: subscribed, and do not mind the room mic sound - a high budget adds nothing to an instructional any student truly wants to study. A chart, a magazine article, and the cassette wuz all I had when I learned this gem. And, students: the thing about Gadd is his internal click is really, really well practiced. I advise you put on a metronome 8hrs a day - until tempo drift feels *weird* - to understand why bass players love him.
The cascara goes: R R RR RR RR R R.
yeah but there are variations on everything. I worked with a Venezuelan guy on cruise ships for a couple of years, he showed me so many variations on so many things. That's really my point.
First concert was Nov ‘68 - Sam Houston Coliseum: Vanilla Fudge with Three Dog Night opening!
So sad how Billy Joel kicked the original members of his band to the curb
I promise to watch today! Love your videos. Is your hair still that length? 😂
shaved it off, renting the space lol
Cool❤❤❤
That sounds so good. I have to start internalizing this
Your sticks look very similar to the Dave Weckl model I like. Mine also have the finish worn off on the shoulder. Now they've been discontinued. 😢
A Night In Tunisia, not Night of Tunisia.
I must have misspoke, I know that you know what I'll take it down. lol.
During your initial demo, I was thinking it would sound much better with an extra note leading into the "1" ... then you intro the Gadd version with the extra note. The extra note, while seemingly insignificant, makes a notable difference in my opinion.
I actually managed it pretty well playing air drums. Great tutorial Sir. Thanks. At around 255bpm, it's a wonderful Techno/Hard house rhythm.
Thanks for explaining slowly. Most you tubers go at 200 bpm from the start lol.
The drum gods have put you in my recommended section! Hallelujah
nice break down!
thank you for explaining this
Really enjoyed the video and comparison. Super informative
Enjoyed that! I'm not a drummer, but I was iImpressed with your description of Gadd "laziness." The feel in this riff is so important. Nicely done.
Enjoyed the video. I'm a right handed drummer, as is Mr. Gadd. I heard him say that he was fooling with stuff like this to keep his left hand more involved. My feeling is that 50 ways evolved out of a linear pattern of 3 and 5. hlrhlrlr. I recommend getting comfortable with that phrase first. Then a bass drum is substituted for the last right. hlrhlrlb. For the basic groove I always play the left foot hi-hat note on 1 to keep the linear pattern going. The nine note phrase is completed by playing bass drum on 1 and 3. The 9 is set up by the 2 rudiments you described; then you spend the rest of your life getting the feel.
Exactly, the feel makes or breaks it. I always say to my students the mechanics is the easy part, the feel not so much.
Talking about 8th notes on the Help! intro, Ringo WAS playing with his dominant left hand! Watch the black and white film intro to the movie (search youtube for "The Beatles - Help! [Alternate Music Video 1965]"). He plays the hi-hat with his left hand, and hits the crash with his weaker right hand.
😂 Good to know. I looked at a live clips all the ones I saw he was playing it with his right hand even on the hat or on his crash ride. I'd like to find that one that he was playing with his left. Either way, I was being truthful where with my weekend I don't know if I could do it that quick for that long nonstop maybe 25 years ago definitely not now lol
also Capitol added reverb and some radio stations sped up the records ,made them sound like chipmunks, I remember ,because I was 9 when they debuted on Ed Sullivan ,and I played guitar since 4 yrs old,I knew the bullshit going on at that age
Awesome!! She has a great band ..and that guest singer wasn't bad at all!!!!!!!
Shame. I was interested in this... but the dad jokes have turned me off.
The why Steve Gadd warms up for proformances
Great video, God bless from Italy❤
The pedal fitting the lift bottom is not an issue for my chain-drive Yamaha 7210 pedal, so this would only be a problem for some pedals, not all of them. I have this kit and love it. The only changes I made to it are the hoops (upgraded to 2.3mm from 1.6mm) and the rack drum support (Gibraltar Platform Single Ball Mount with post and Gibraltar SC-LBM L-Rod Ball) for a cleaner look when it is in the "gas cap" bass mount. The Gibraltar hardware used to be owned by Gretsch and I think is now re-labeled as Gretsch hardware - same high quality. While your heads sound great for rock, I am a jazz drummer with trios and quartets, so I like a lighter touch for small venues. I use the Remo Renaissance heads on my snare drum and kept the Ambassador heads on my toms and bass drum. They work perfectly for light wood-tip sticks and brushes.
That's Moeller, not push pull.
The instant I started counting iit out I got it straight away!!
Lots of people like George Harrison's wife and George Martin call "Paul" Billy and William. #sageofquay
I just think John, and is animosity would have said something. He didn't. He called him every name in the book. And then how do you sleep, John's tune, it says, that thought, keyword is thought, you were dead.
Left handed drummers of the world UNITE!
Crazy how wrong things get out
I love the Treasure Album with Vinnie Vincent, check out "I wanna love you."
The really annoying part for me, trying to learn trad grip (it's always been difficult) is that, my right hand (I'm a righty) could do it straight away without a minute of practice, and my left struggled after many many hours.
Fun informative video. Enjoyed the old clips. Good advice and clear explanations. Well done!
