Basketball workouts: Planning and Accountability
Every time you workout you should have a written plan of what drills you are going to perform. You are better off choosing 3 specific drills and performing them at "game speed" for 15 minutes than going out and "shooting around" for an hour. Think about what you want to accomplish, write down a practice plan, and hold yourself accountable. Ray Allen does this by doing push-ups when he misses. You decide the consequence (push-ups, sit-ups, sprints, etc), but set a goal for each drill and if you don't accomplish that goal set a consequence. Quality beats quantity when it comes to training. Do high-quality drills, with a high level of intensity, for a shorter duration (30 mins-1 hour max), but more frequently. Young players often mistake "shooting around" for improving. It's not how much time you spend on the court, it's how much intent-driven, high-intensity, focused time in which you hold yourself accountable that's going to separate you from other players. Unless you are a naturally amazing athlete who has incredible height and strength, you must do things that others are not. That's how we train our players at The Shot Doctor Basketball Academy (www.ShotDoctorBasketball.com) and so should you!

    This is NOT a good way to shoot. Thanks for posting this video though! It really informs me as to how off conventional shooting instruction is.

    In my opinion, form does matter, but it isnt everything. Its all about having a feel for the ball, being comfortable with your jumpshot

      King Chestnut let me know ur opinion about this cause i have not exp about basketball, but dont u think that practice will make u comfortable by time, even if it is not on the beggining? the shoot must not be just random, am i right?

      @@erenkristia257 watch nba players.. All great shooters have the exact same shot. There's your clue. Mimic that shot, this coach breaks it down great. Most important is where you aim on rim which he didn't discuss.

    Great drills! But them guys have a major problem with consistance. They quickly forget how to position the wrist in triple threat and notoriously forget about the follow through. Coach of that status should pick on it. Great theory, poor execution.

    • @justinpinard6434
      @justinpinard6434 4 роки тому

      Madisyn Armstrong nowadays one-motion shooting is more common (think Curry) but two-motion shots are more traditional and have been around longer (look at Jordan, LeBron, Kobe, Ray Allen)

    • @SG-uj8tj
      @SG-uj8tj 4 роки тому

      Hard to get rhythm with 2 stage shot. Needs to be all one motion. Everything else I agree with... Ohhh and he never actually discussed where to aim at the rim which is the most important part.

    Played with both his sons in High School in Clark, NJ. Jon had perfect form. Jerry had an unusual set shot but could hit from anywhere on the floor and would have thrived in 3 point era.
