Must be a ref shortage as they made Anthony ref our game instead of score our goals. This left us really short and we had 3 subs this game, all of which played great. I was frustrated with myself my expectations of what I can do are being met by myself.

    Once in awhile, I'll try stand-up stances and moves. But wow, it feels so weird in stiff modern pads. I have a set of Kenesky-made Franklin THTs in my garage. One day, I'll find a stand-up (or at least stand-up-curious) goalie to get them on the ice.

      @@JackMuren Seeing Kirk in net explains a lot of the awkwardness in my play style. I literally played the exact same way and remember standing on the post with my pads clinched tight back in the early 2000's. The crawling on my knees from post to post, he does it too. Diving across the crease (like in their first goal) is completely native for me. I never filmed myself back then and now I trying to learn a completely new play style makes for some interesting video. And typically in the beginning of the game I start more modern but as I get tired I default back to 2000. I'll get it eventually. I am still working on the weight loss (down 30 now) and plan next to start hitting a lot of cardio. I completely appreciate your kind words every week!

      @JackMuren 12 днів тому

      @@NerdrageHockey honestly, I started playing the same style as a kid. I started in roller hockey and was a big fan of the Hasek style of goaltending because I had never received any coaching and it seemed very easy to play that scramble type of goaltending. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that style, but as I got older, I really wanted to learn the discipline of a very stable/boring Carey Price style of goaltending. Still haven't mastered that, but it has been a fun journey learning about the position and all the different style and personality that comes along with it. I've really enjoyed sharing with all the different goalies on UA-cam. Thankful to have been a part of everyone's hockey journey and have them be a part of mine too.

    That second goal was a bummer. I thought you had that one. The third one, too, but for entirely different reasons. Like getting hung out to dry! And the fifth one made me cry. Ross's goal was a beauty ... loved the assist.

    • @NerdrageHockey
      @NerdrageHockey 19 днів тому

      If goal 2 would have had any more juice on it then it would have bounced away, instead it hit my blocker and died. Goal 3 if I would have just gloved it on the initial shot. 5 I've never been scored on like that before. I've seen it in the pro's but Ron, the guy who shot it and a friend of mine, just dumped it towards the net and I was more worried about a centering pass. Goalies always seem to be harder on themselves than anybody else is. Goal 6 I really feel I should have got a glove on it and I watched it frame by frame. I dropped the glove hand in preparation to push right. Had it been where it was supposed to be... Thanks for the commentary and watching!

They aren’t good in low light conditions, neither am I fortunately the rink is well lit. So everything they lose to against a go pro I don’t care about. I don't know what women's hockey is like but I have been in a toxic locker room before with teammates yelling at each other more than the refs. It is nice to be able to choose not to be on a team with the 1 or 2 players that can ruin the environment. TBH the senior league is pretty good about that. Most of the players have aged out of that. Technical difficulties with cameras are always disappointing. At least you were able to salvage some footage. You made some good saves. Faced some fast shots too. Some solid saves with that right pad. Nice job!

    Quitting smoking and trying to lose weight is tough. Almost everyone I know, including myself, gained after quitting. Looked like a fun game. You faced a lot of shots. Does it hurt you when you get up (recover from dropping into your butterfly)? Curious if you ever do pre game stretches or anything to try and loosen up your joints?

      It does hurt to get up in the back and the hips. TBH it doesn't hurt as much during the game as it does when I am trying to stretch or not on the ice, more bothersome really. My pregame stretches aren't too involved. I stretch my back out on the stairs while putting my shoes on. A couple of quick toe touching and leg shaking. What kind of stretch routine do you have?

    • @JackMuren
      @JackMuren 7 місяців тому

      @@NerdrageHockey I stretch on the ice before I see a few warm up shots. Mostly my thighs, hips, ankles, knees, lower back. Afterwards, I use a massage gun to work on any muscle tightness or pain. Have you ever tried one? I'm wondering if some of your movement restrictions on the ice could be from joint and muscle tightness or inflexibility. If your hips and back have limited mobility or tightness and pain, it can be very difficult to move the way you want to while playing.

      @@JackMuren After years of Martial Arts smacking heavy bags with every sort of Kick I have the hips of a 70 year old to the point that they constantly pop (mostly the right side). My knee's are toast. I dislocated my shoulder when I was 17 and it never recovered (feels like I have grit in it). The weight is the issue, my hips and knees would be a lot better if they weren't pushing around an extra 60 pounds. My fighting weight was 190 I am sitting at 250 right now. I lost 20 pounds last year in prep for the quiting smoking thing and put on 30 when it was done. I'm fat, no excuses, and while on the fatness scale I am only slightly fat (I am big boy) my body knows and is revolting. One thing I have been doing a lot of lately when nobody is looking is crouch down in a set stance at any point of the day and hold it. Something Over40Goalie recommended. It is helping although I have pain when doing it beyond the legs burning. Hips knees back are all screaming.

      @@NerdrageHockey I completely get it. It's good that you acknowledge it and are actively working on changing it. Getting older myself, having played a variety of sports, and working a physical job all my life I can certainly relate. It's awesome you are out there stopping pucks and having fun! You certainly have made improvements and will continue improving the more you play.

    Good game. Close one! I get not being happy with the way a game played out. I have games like that for sure. Just a perfect storm of the worst bounces on things you normally get. Fresh slate next game!

      The first goal was almost forgivable, 5 holed on a pass across. Second goal I was thinking all pass and after he passed the hash marks was only half heartedly sliding back expecting to have to go back to the middle. Third goal was all me and the over time winner I wasn't close to being in the right position. ugh.

      I just need to be less lazy and get my fat butt over there. Going to have to change my channel name to LazyRageHockey or NerdLethargicHockey FatBoyDoesHockey or even OldFatGuyWithaBadBack. Getting really tired of falling forward because I am carrying the extra 50 pounds after quitting smoking. I figured by now I would start dropping some weight. At least I am not gaining any more. Thank you for the kind comments.
