Just getting back into the hobby side of things after 18 months off and loving your videos, the warlord stuff is great and scales nicely with Perry miniatures, would love to see how they compare with Wargames Atlantic Conquistadors and knights! Keep up the great work
The Griffon looks very useful (as well as being a nice model too).
Have you looked at the Perry horses for comparison?
Bronzino would make a great general!
Great idea for raising that horse! Great comparison video Sir, thank you 😊
Very good video. I was curious about these models for the same purpose (after buying a box or two!) thanks muchly 😊
@@JohnR1298 you’re welcome and thank you. 😊
I know Mighty Lancer, had some dealings, they're very good in my experience 👍😊 I have a couple of boxes of these miniatures exactly for Old World intentions. THEN I saw this army box set.... 🫠😄 Probably still get one this year. I am thinking of the Wargames Atlantic new cavalry to fill that role. Just need some biiiig guns to tie in with these 😊
I must admit your editing is somewhat annoying as you start speaking it suddenly changes to another view with snippets of information, let it run a bit longer
@@stevebuk100 thank you for the feedback and apologies, I’m still trying to get the balance right with the video editing, particularly since much of it is in an effort to disguise the breathing difficulties I have with severe anxiety.
You can pin an arm put not a quite chunky feather?
@@markwalters4525 I could pin the feather but if that was my advice someone else would object to that so I’d rather give warlord the opportunity to demonstrate their very excellent customer service.
Gotta love sales. I picked up a Tomb Kings starter set, normally 300, on a clearance 40% off at my LGS. Dropped the price down to 180, impossible to pass up.
@@wyattw9727 that’s awesome and a great army box. I got 20% off my tomb kings and couldn’t resist that either.
@@PaulStanleyauthor To me it was even cheaper as I didn't have the BRB yet either, so 80 value rulebook coupled with 1kish points of undead egyptians was irresistible. Pays to shop local.
@ definitely it does. 😊
Bronzino is so cool 💣💥💀
Was very curious about this boxed set and whether I should get it - many thanks for giving us a look inside. Cheers!
I got the zweihanders box to get a feel for them before commiting to the starter army. Lovely models, but painting them can be a little daunting if you're doing a historical look with every man dressed like a rainbow 😅😂
@@Castillo525 I can imagine. I might have to tone it down a bit just to get through all 150 of them 😅
I'm loving this series of videos for your Empire/Historical project! My only suggestion would be to do more comparisons with other miniatures during the video if possible!
@@thundermanful thank you. 😊 I’ve just started filming another video where I compare Warlord Landsknecht and GW Empire with Wargames Foundry Renaissance metals and some Perry 1450s plastics. Hopefully this will be useful and build on the videos I’ve done so far.
The only thing giving me pause is those non-optional bases/feet they're all born with. Don't like them at all.
Unless you want to model "High Helms" i don't see why you would want oversized humans for your Empire armies, after all it looks more heroic if your more monstery enemies loom over the humans. Buying GW is essentially paying more for less accurate figures.
Algorithm. :)
@@tolemykus4805 thank you 😊
Looking good… I’ve got the ECW starter army from Warlord… when they say it’s an army, they really mean you’re buying an army!! It’s huge and really good value. I’ve painted a few landsknecht, it’s weird taking time painting so many codpieces lol
@@lukefarrell6769 🤣😂 I’ve yet to experience that pleasure 😅
This box is exactly where I started with my new take on a dogs of war army. Love the juxtaposition of historical and real units next to something highly fantastical.
I use the excess sprues plastic for DIY movement trays. They're 5 mm in width which makes them perfect for homemade adapter trays for 20mm, 25mm and cav bases in Old World.
Your alternative empire army could be a border prince's realm
@@rossdiggle nice idea. I’ll have to look at the Old World lore because I’m a bit naive. I’ve got some medieval historical miniatures to make a Bretonnian army with and now these WA Renaissance / conquistador and some Warlord Landsknecht to use.
I never liked the GW plastic pistoliera. They are to chonky. Im glad ive got 25 of the metal ones to work with

I'm no planet hugger but i absolutely hate the amount of waste on plastic sprue miniatures.
@@jprp999 I often think about that when I’m throwing away empty sprues. There’s as much plastic in those frames as was in the parts they contain if not more. I know some people make sprue goo but I’m wondering if I can’t make something from them… I remember an old episode of Blue Peter where someone used Airfix sprues to make a Space 1999 style spaceship.
Save the sprues for DIY movement trays. Cheap, thin MDF, a magnetic sheet and you're good to go! The size is perfect for using them for adapter movement trays using the old base sizes (for 20 mm, 25 mm and cav)
@ excellent tip thank you. That’ll definitely come in handy.

I got this box last year such a fun set to put together and paint!
@@mikesminiatures921 I’m looking forward to it. It’s a great army.
Good review, I like the Warlord Games Landsknechts, they are good minis, pretty affordable as well. There are a couple of issues though. 1) the are I think two versions of these very large sleeves, the ones you chose for your test mini, that can be hard to glue onto the body. They have this sort of circular ridge around the shoulder joint that I believe was supposed to "stick up" to create a puff goin up from the minis shoulder. However, I found that they are a pain to glue on. You also cannot put a katzbalger on the belt with those arms. 2) because of the design of the neck joints and some very high collars, some heads, if glued directly on, will be bowed down. That's especially the case for the head in the plain sallet. You have to either trim the back of the colour or the neck joint on the head for them not to look directly down at their toes.
@@MaxromekWroc excellent comment thank you. Very helpful and yes, I noticed that very problem with the arms I chose. I think when I do a build video for this army I’ll definitely have to cover the points you’ve raised.
How strong are the pikes? I have always replaced plastic spears on my warhammer miniatures with steel wire to get a thinner but less fragile spear. That's been fairly easy on GW miniatures because the spearheads are so oversize its easy to drill a hole in them to receive the wire, but on those pikes the tips don't look big enough to do that.
@@AndyM_323YYY they are quite flexible. I haven’t tested them to destruction but I suspect they might break quite easily. They appear to be cupped in the hand rather than gripped so no drilling required and if you were to replace them I think you’d want to do it before gluing the arm onto the body.
@@PaulStanleyauthor same pikes as on my ECW army, never had one break. For storage tip I recommend 9l really useful boxes, then add warbases half trays to maximise the amount you can fit in one box.
@ good to know thanks. I’ve got loads of those really useful boxes and will definitely check out warbases movement trays.
@@PaulStanleyauthor they’re half box trays, so you can fill the box perfectly as they stack on top of each other. You can fit pikes, flags cavalry etc so basically two layers of minis in the boxes instead of just one.
@ excellent, thanks for clarifying. I definitely need something like that as my shelves are pretty full 😅
The "k" in "landsknecht" is not silent 😂
@@MaxromekWroc 😂🤣 thank you. I’m tongue tied already.
German can be a tough one! It'd be easier to break it down to "landz knekt". Enjoying the updates!
They are a lot smaller than gw 4th Ed empire but not that noticeable on the table top especially if you glue their bases to the top one of the taller gw style bases for some extra height. Anyway not all men are the same height and I painted mine as underfed Stirlanders.
@@chrismuirhead3219 excellent idea. So your army marches on an empty stomach 😅
The quality of the details on these is so much better than the ones on the state troops, maybe I got a miscast or something but all details are so muddy…
@@sinilaid the Warlord Landsknecht are very crisp. Perhaps it’s down to improvements in technology? I do think the old Warhammer plastics have a more simplistic finish. They are beautiful but very stylised.
@@PaulStanleyauthor I just ordered a box of Landsknechts Pikemen to use the left over bits from the battalion box to make some spears and shields with. Thanks for the tip on these models

For Landsknechts models, I would recommend Sunland Landsknechts from Highlands Miniatures.
@@ersteader2584 thank you. I’ve seen some photos and they look great bi think I’ll have to get hold of a few examples.
I am tempted now.... For variance of head, you could try the spare heads (with Morion helmets) from the Wargames Atlantic cavalry. On other sets the Warlord/Atlantics could be exchanged.
@franksminiatures7509 great idea thank you and that’s definitely something I’ll do while building this army.
Great comparison! 😍 An extra shot short with Perry & Victrix Medieval horses would have been the bomb - just to get an idea regarding possibilities to jump between these manufacturers too... (I know its not fitting your Empire theme...) Perhaps an ultimate horses comparison video in the future? (plus Claymore/Gripping Beast, ? etc.). BTW, your work here is priceless! Regarding all those tabletop videos almost nobody does this kind of content - which should seem so full of value to all kitbashers / people that mix-n-match between lines. Keep up your fantastic work! 🥳👌
@@diceassault thank you. I really appreciate your kind comments. I did some Perry, Wargames Atlantic, Claymore, Victrix and FireForge horse comparison in an earlier video while kit bashing Bretonnians and medieval armies but you’re absolutely right. Now that we have the Empire in Old World, and some more plastic horses, I will be doing the ultimate horse comparison video. I have to 😅
I'm going to have to stop watching your videos... too much temptation Then again, deep in my stash I have a bunch of Wargames Foundry Landsknecht bought way back when to serve as proxy Empire with a bunch of GW.
@@unpaintedleadsyndrome tell me about it 😅 I need sponsorship because every time I see a box of cool minis I immediately want to buy it and start planning a UA-cam video. I love Wargames Foundry miniatures. So many ex citadel minis in their catalogue. Their Landsknecht are bound to fit in an Empire army somewhere.
I have the same Box and now some GW State Troops. I think I'll play around with giving the state Troops some Katzbalger swords from the Warlords Kit. Also, all the provided bags and feathers will come in handy😊
@@timporsch2669 I did think that when I looked at the warlord sprues. Man, all those feathers, it’ll be fun embellishing my Empire with those. 😅
These are really good, although they're smaller then the official Warhammer models they make a nice cheap alternative way to bulk out Empire armies. The UA-cam channel Mordian Glory recommended using the small artillery gun you get with this set as an engineer with a Hochland Long Rifle which I think is a really fun idea :D
@@Tim1000064 I think I saw that video. It was a great looking army. I did wonder about filling out the back ranks of my Empire with these but now I’ve ordered never mind the bill hooks fantasia I’ll probably use them to create a fantasy army with a strong historical vibe.
@PaulStanleyauthor Historical fantasy armies are really fun!
@ I can’t wait. I’ve also got some orcs somewhere that have a Middle Earth vibe to them so I could create a couple of armies quite easily. I also like the fact that you could legitimately have two historical armies from different periods fighting each other in a fantasy game.
@@PaulStanleyauthor I love that about it too, it's very freeing from a creative perspective!
@@Tim1000064tbf, Perry brothers used to basically make real world historical miniatures and throw a griffin and a couple of mages. There's an interview talking about who did designed the troops for Dogs of War codex and they openly say 'yes, the crossbowmen with Pavese shields are just that'
Very nice models. I remember GW had some landsknecht type models floating around, but they took them off the site before i could grab a box. Freeguild mercenaries, if i remember correctly. Before the Cities of Sigmar refresh. Hope they come back to The Old World.
They're back now in their original form as Empire State Troops :D
very nice sets, they are however 28 mm truescale. Compared to the more or less 32mm heroic scale, those will always stand out as kinda small/slim besides GW miniatures. There are some very nice and fairly prized 3d printed alternatives available on etsy or midgard for a great prize. Highland miniatures come to mind.
@@Jewus19 that’s a good point thank you. Ironically I do have some Highland miniatures given to me by a friend who had them printed out too small for Warhammer. Even though the scales are different between many fantasy and historical miniatures I have found on occasion that they are still good for head swaps or kitbashing. Sometimes the results can be pleasantly surprising.
No feathers? Good god man, are you a barbarian! Something my ol'Ma used to say " feathers maketh the man", you'd do well to believe that.
This is fantastic! Thanks for doing this!
