Blizzard Waves on Minnesota's North Shore of Lake Superior (12/27/21)
Переглядів 11 тис.2 роки тому
Videos taken by John Keefover of Keefography on 12/27/21 on the North Shore of Lake Superior at Tettegouche State Park in Minnesota. 40 MPH gusts blew around the 8" of snow and created 7-10' waves with the occasional 13 footer. For more of my photography work see my website: www.keefography.com
Copper Falls State Park Backcountry Campsite
Переглядів 9673 роки тому
Join us for this overnight backpacking trip at Copper Falls State Park in Wisconsin. I met up with my hiking buddy John Schwager(Swagonthetrail 82) and stayed at the only backcountry campsite at Copper Falls. The campsite is after a short, but very scenic 2 mile hike and requires a permit reserved in advance that costs $32.75 plus a Wisconsin State Park Pass for your vehicle. We stayed right on...

Join me for this Solo Overnight Backpacking Trip along the Meyers Beach Lake Shore Trail in the Apostle Islands National Lake Shore. Meyers Beach is predominantly known as a kayak destination with a plethora of sea caves and crevices, but it's just as beautiful from the trail. I give a tour of what is the only campsite on the mainland of Wisconsin in the Apostles, and show you everything along ...

Переглядів 1,3 тис.3 роки тому
Join me for this Solo Overnight Backpacking Trip on the Superior Hiking Trail in a Snowstorm... in October! I go over all of the photography and camping gear I bring along with me, as well as show the transformation of the trail into a winter wonderland. *This is not a sponsored or paid promotional video. All of the gear mentioned was bought and paid for by myself, and merely just explaining wh...
Landscape Photography Waterfall Vlog
Переглядів 6074 роки тому
Join me, John Keefover a freelance photographer going by Keefography, for my first vlog. We'll be taking a short hike to a waterfall in Northern Wisconsin on an overcast day in the fall. I'll briefly go over some of my settings and techniques to capture a couple of photographs I took on location here. I also kinda realize just how much I say kinda... I'll kinda fix that in the next video. Thank...
What time of the year was this? Planning a boys trip with my sons. Was it super buggy?
Thank you! I live nearby and have always been curious of the difficulty level. This is beautiful and looks like a doable hike. Great pictures and video!
Thanks. So to stay in that campground, you have to carry your tent and supplies along that long trail?
Amazing how different that place looks that time of year!? Especially the parking lot…I was the 3rd car there when I pulled up in a Sunday!? 😂 When was that…roughly? lol I totally have to stay at that site!

Morons actually live near here
Lake Superior is beautiful. U can find drift wood all along the shore.
How far of a hike is it to the first view/overlook? Thanks for sharing these videos !
The main overlook area is in 1.8 miles so probably around 1.5 miles to the first opening you get of the lake. Thanks for watching!
Wow! We were along the North Shore 3-4 weeks ago - what a crazy difference!
For sure! The lake has been very calm this summer with mostly completely flat waters. Has been nice but I definitely love when it gets like this too!
I like a lot of your gear. I have a few friends with that same backpack. They love it. That fog was wild. Close call on that branch hitting you. Really cool video and area👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Jason! I feel like it's all pretty dialed in now but definitely have G.A.S. still at times when a shiny new toy comes out... Absolutely love the North Shore up here. You should come check out the SHT or BWCA with all of us Minnesota boys sometime! Likewise there's much in your neck of the woods I'd like to see.
Great video,John. Thank you far sharing.I want to tell you that I have had this tent for several months now and it has already become my favorite tent of all time.... I live in Ireland and I can say that it resists wind and rain very well. I love it.
Thanks Daniel! That's great to hear as well. Haven't had a chance to get back in yet since then as I've been going out with my partner more with the Duplex. Love them both though!
For bear country camping consider a portable electric bear fence. Lightest out there is 2.4 lbs.
This is just black bear territory here in Minnesota and that would be very overkill for them. Hanging a bear bag is the lightest option here, next would be Ursack, and then a bear canister. It’s mostly just to keep the smaller critters out around here to be honest.
Thanks for making an informational trail video. I can’t wait to see the sea caves on this trail in a week. Subscribe to see my experience and plenty of other epic trails.
thanks for doing this John. Good to see places I can no longer do.. Sure miss it! Keep going as much as possible. Life changes have a way of creeping up on you .
Thanks Ron! Definitely want to keep hiking as much as I’m physically able to, not getting any younger!
Sweet spot! Beautiful weather that evening on the lake!
All of those sites are prime at Split Rock! Even the cart-in ones. Love camping right on the big lake too.
Great video, we love being out in foul weather as well! Really enjoy your IG account!
Thank you! For sure me too. Setting up camp in the rain can be a bummer but literally any other time I’m all for it!
great video John, I sent you paintings (done over the winter) to look at on Facebook messenger, hope you like them
Excellent video! Thank you for sharing.
We are from WI and definitely will be doing this trail and making a video this year! Sure is a beautiful trail... Thanks for sharing this beautiful hike! 💙Terry and Terri
do these sort of storms persist throughout the winter? im trying to get up there to film this same thing but its march. I just hope i havent missed the opportunity
Not so much due to ice forming on the lake. The best window for big waves (at least for us here on the North Shore of MN) is typically November & December.
0:55 The force of the wave blasted a chunk of rock off of the cliff face.
Yeah pretty wild to see! My buddy captured an even bigger chunk getting broken off that day too. The shore takes a beating in those storms.
Stunning! Well done👌
Ansel Adams in motion. Very nice work.
Why was it shot in black&white, just kidding!
Followed from Tic Toc… beautiful
Beautiful view!
Following from Instagram. Love the long distance shot over the water where you can watch each individual wave build and come in. In the ocean, it is usually a pattern of 7 waves, with the pattern building up to the 7th. Is it similar on the Great Lakes? I can sit and watch that pattern for hours. Even on a day I'm not getting in it. Would love to see a long form steady video! Thanks
Thank you so much! I love watching these waves when the lake gets like this. Here’s its most sets of three, dubbed the three sisters.
Thank you for bringing me peace. Wonderful video.
Grinding that shoreline down 🌊
Love the sound of the waves.
Nicely shot 👏👏....i spend most of my time on the south shore.....i think a north shore trip is in order.....thank U!
Followed from your IG. Very calming and thought provoking; zen like even. Keep up the great work.
That last shot is eerie asf! *Right before the individual took a leap, this is what he saw*
WOW! This is stunning. Thank you for posting.
Thanks & you’re welcome!
John! What did you use to film this? your Canon or phone? Great job of editing! I see Shovel Point near the end of the video. :-) did you get wet??
Hey Ron! This was all shot on my Canon EOS R which held up nicely in those conditions. I had plenty of layers on but was starting to get wetted out towards the end of the day!
@@Keefography I long for the day I can spend time with you again. Hopefully, there will be a Homegrown this year! And I am healthy enough to be there.
Wow, love seeing the power of the waves on Superior! Great filming!
Same here man! Often times we would just stop shooting and take it in for awhile.
Absolutely Gorgeous - More, please!
Thank you so much! There will be more whenever the lake does it’s thing again! Until then you can follow along with my photography @keefography
Awesome footage dude!
Thanks Max! It was a challenge filming in that wind, you can definitely notice some shake on the second half shots zoomed in more with the telephoto
AWESOME !!
Thank you!
Omg!! That is AMAZING dude. Wow!
Thanks man! It was pretty incredible yesterday.
@@Keefography it's so ominous and pretty at the same time.
sweet
Great video! Thanks for sharing! New Wisconsin sub here!
Hey thanks man appreciate it and right back at you!
Beautiful, thank you so much for sharing. Makes me want to try backpacking again.
Thank you glad you liked it and it inspires you to get outside!
Hey John, This was a wonderful first vlog and I really enjoyed it. I have photographed Twin Falls a few times which made it even more enjoyable watching this. Nice work capturing the beautiful images as well. I had the place to myself last time there as well.
Dude! Those shots of the sandstone cliffs at the bend of the river were dope! Nice vid man 👌🏼
Thanks man it was such an interesting spot there for sure! Can’t wait to meet again and hit the Porkies tomorrow! 🤙🏻
Another great adventure, enjoyed. I especially loved seeing the beautiful night sky the Milky Way. Grateful that you share with us.
Thank you that was my favorite part too! Thanks for watching!
This is an amazing campsite man! You got some great shots!
Thanks Tim! It’s definitely a nice spot right on the river there. Lots to see in a small little area.
im glad you're doing this walk and taking video because those points are a big no thanks for me ! :O pretty but id never do it. made me squeamish just watching. this video was fantastic. great work! beautiful place!!
Thank you! Yeah I didn't get too close to the edges because those cliffs are pretty brittle out there. It's an awesome hike though!
Great job on the video! Thanks for the message and action of leaving it cleaner than we found it👍
Thank you, just doing my part!
Just found this John! Very well done!! So many things come to mind but don't want to jot it all down here. Do more of these. Even in the winter, especially if you do cross country skiing?? Hope to see you at Duluth Homegrown next year and talk pictures and videos again. Appreciate videos like this that take me places I can't go to now.
Thanks Ron good to hear from you again! Hoping to do more but I’m not exactly a winter camping kinda guy. Unless I get one of those hot tents! I haven’t shot music in too long so that would be great!
