Doin Stuff

Приєднався 27 лют 2020
Hey everyone,
It's Jim here, a bit about me and my channel.
In my spare time I'm into all kinds of projects in "The Shed". I love to work with metal and I am constantly learning new skills with metal fabrication, especially if it has an engine in it or can be converted to something with one.
In the past I have always enjoyed editing and making videos, So My UA-cam channel is a way for me to capture my projects and show people what they can do with a handful of basic tools and a little bit of persistence to help them to do "Shed Stuff" themselves at the same time.
Hope you enjoy my channel, so if you haven't already, consider Subscribing and stick around if you would like to see and watch what I build next.
Feel free to send me a message if you would like to help out my channel.

U can use thoes extra pieces as skirting for your little container or as patches for the holes and you should put a porch on top of that other container with a door and lil bridge
Thanks mate, great ideas 👍
Another great video, Jim. If only it did take 1 hour....my recent shed extension took 1 hour + about 10 days of hard slog. You look like you have so much storage now, you will never fill it....BUT, I reckon you will fill those containers, then go looking for more!!
Thanks, I think you might be right about that. 👍
Always handy to have a gate lying around those window cut outs will come in handy for that. Horses run along way so maybe Phar lap would be a good name. 🤔🤔
Great job mate
That window fit is so satisfying…
28:09 Path of Destruction is such a metal band name type of phrase
🤟
Put an edge on the end of the sea can so the rain won’t go thru between? Make a cap to go along the sea can where they but up to stop rain ?? Make a porch along the edges where you dug out to get under to direct rain ? Or make a small wall under the sea can to make a small storage?? Maybe you could have put the door up side down??? 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thanks for all those ideas, much appreciated. 😀
great vid looking forwrd to seeing more
Thanks for that 👍
Use the left over sheets and make window ornings
That's brilliant, I like that idea.
nice, i wish you were my dad and showed me how to do stuff
Thanks mate, my dad didn't show me how to do this. I just tried it for myself and never gave up 😎
Some great insights there, Jim. I totally agree with being able to stand up while getting dressed....whether it's in a caravan or camper trailer. You've seen my caravan upgrade build, so I have no doubt you'll work your magic on your own build/renovation....and I look forward to seeing the video series. PS. when will we see more of the Brumby build???
Thanks mate. The Brumby is back in the shed and about to get worked over, videos before Christmas.
Wow, I’ve got the same van all set up like a camper just like yours. But seriously, $900 or more for registration? Mine’s been sitting for about five years, and I was planning to get it back on the road and re-register it. I thought the $680 I was paying before was already a lot. This feels like highway robbery! I'll probably go ahead and do my trip then sell it.
It won’t be $680 anymore!! If you’re in Vic you won’t have much left of $900 either! You could look into joining a car club and putting your van on club rego if it fits your state’s requirements for this. Enjoy your trip!
mate whats that stuff on the interior roof? is that some kinda insulation?
It's a sound deadening product, it works well as an insulater. Not sure where I got it.
I enjoyed the build video and this is all really good advice. Take some of your own advice and have a week or so away in a hire caravan before you start laying out the dollars.
Thank you and yes you are right 👍
Just a technicality, but wouldn't this be a stable?
Happy to see this getting some attention
Great job. If there's anything I've learned from many years of camping is to keep things simple and be minimalist. Amazing how much "stuff" you take but never use. I also like the plumbing tube on the opposite side to the awning for a fishing rod or 2 and a hook to keep under the bed makes it easy to retieve stuff that gets pushed to the back. I also like you've kept all the heavy stuff down low. Reckon you pretty much nailed it.
Thanks for that, a good build takes lots of planning hey. But always something else that could have been different.
Great conversion, Jim...it turned out sweet and very practical, too. Lucky you changed the cooling fan when you did....that letting go would have ended in tears.
Thanks Rusty, yeah I was lucky to see it really, but sorted now 👍
Well done mate. How was that bad fuel from that dodgy last owner...
Yeah that guy.....
@@DoinStuff 🤔😎
Well done👍
Thanks mate, glad you liked it 😎
VERY COL!!!!!!
That's a huge job, Jim...well done on getting all the levels correct, the placement spot on and all the other 'behind the scenes' stuff to get this project completed. You're going to have so much more space....until you fill up all those containers, then you'll be adding a couple more on top of the ones you've already got in place. You looked like you were having way too much fun on your little excavator...but boy, doesn't it come in handy!!
Thanks for that mate, it's been a big project for me for sure. Can't wait to start getting stuff out of my main shed.
Thanks for the tips.
Hi, Good format. I have also had the idea of a brumby on a solid diff chassis. It’s great to know I’m not the only nutter that enjoys creating a built enginerd 4b. I still don’t think it’s normal BUT! Normal is boring. Keep up the great work & content.
How did you modify the rafters to fit the lift in there?
In my first video on "Workshop upgrades" I go into some detail about roof repairs and support for that.
I guess the Vitara was cheap for a reason, but well done to you, Jim, on swapping out the engine and making it into a great car for the Boss....I'm sure she's happy. Now, as for the Kizashi...do I see a custom build project in the wings????
Thanks Rusty, I've been pondering on what to do with the kickurassi......🤔
Nice job fixing it up, sad part is a cheap Vitara becomes a "normal" price one (or a bit higher) and you're left with a heap of stuff Kizari?? that's probably not much good for anything.
Ahh used cars, you gotta love em' 😉 Great work getting it back up and running, better than sending it to the scrapper.
Yeah I had to save it. Saved at least one of them anyway 🤣
Once it started losing coolant. They probably just added water and it froze and busted the block. Glad to see you back at it. Sometimes we get into projects that just suck up the money. Hopefully you can recoup some on the parts car
Hi James, we don't have snow or freezing troubles in the top half of Australia mate, it definitely was overheated. I am hopeful to get a few things sold off the donor car for sure.
Currently starting a similar project. 1985 brat and 1988 fullsize bronco.
Nice, we don't get many broncos here for the right money. Good luck on your build, my friend 👍
For me 4 out of the 5 points are covered, the point about the concrete is a good one and I know mine will need work on it. Thanks for the tips mate.
Why do I need a hoist? Because I've got a BMW, that's why....
Got a 530i with 200k miles, all of those miles are trips to and from the repair shop 😎
Only for idiots that try and maintain them like a Camry
Veedub for life, I've suffered for 30yrs without one I'd like the relief
Agree... BMW are cute on the underside also 👍👍
Just a tip , put a litre of dishwashing soap in your tank that would be the equivalent of having 0.1% class A foam and that will make your water more effective for fire fighting.
Thanks John 👍
Great job mate 👌🤠👍
Thanks for that 👍
You made a nice little tractor out of that. Is the subaru still getting built?
Yes, the Subaru Brumby is still happening, just getting a few other projects aside so as to get back onto it. I can't wait to drive it myself 👍😎
@@DoinStuff that's awesome. I understand about getting overwhelmed on projects. It can happen quick to
Thanks mate 👍 it is a high priority for me.
well done jim
Thanks mate 👍
Nice work Jim. Thanks for sharing your time and project. Time for me to go shopping
I put a lift in my shop some years ago and researching I found that many are just folded steel on the posts. I went with an American made Mohawk lift because it used welded forklift mast as the posts and also used 2 pistons with overhead hydraulic lines, so clear floor. It needed at least 4" of reinforced 4,000 psi concrete. Since we didn't meet that we dug and poured 6" of 5,000 psi with steel mesh on top of 3/8" rebar, with 8" depth at the posts. I think it cost about an extra $400 to go the next level. Power was 20 amps 240 volt single phase. The extra overkill on everything was around $1500 but got a lift that would do 10,000 pounds.
Do the van here too
Why didn't you compare a 2 post hoist to a 4 post hoist ..?? 4 post hoist are more stable .. ??? like which is the best ..?? something to think about...???
Another thing to consider is screw lift vs hydraulic lift.
Nice touch the ending...got DOIN STUFF...a like.
I'm pouring square footings 4 feet deep with galvanized threaded rod j-hooked. I'm not pissing around with anchor bolts. No second chances under a vehicle.
Hi, just came across this video. Thanks for sharing. I have a fire trailer too, single axle though, tandem axle is a future project. Tomorrows job. I have a big burn pile waiting for autumn, I think I’ll do a practical test too, a real life test would be useful. Chris TRP.
Every day moving towards a safer home is a good day 👍
Great advice! Thickness/quality of my concrete is definitely something that had not crossed my mind. So... great! More money. Can't wait to tell my wife.
She's gonna love the extra trouble that you are going to to make it safe 😎 your welcome 🤣
Don´t buy a car lift if you are stupid, and what do you need a car lift for if you are stupid.
On the first one I installed, when we drilled holes in the concrete, to see how thick it was, we pushed too hard on the hammer drill and blew the back of the hole out, which made us think the concrete was thinner than it actually was, so we ended up selling the concrete outand putting in rebar and pouring a thicker pad when actually, it was thick enough, we were just thrown off because of blowing out the concrete by pushing on the drill so hard. Lesson learned.
This is genius! Always wanted to do this with my 86’ Brat back in the early 90’s
It's kinda like the way it should be I think...
if you need a "installer" then you're in the wrong field. try cooking.
I’d try to find one where the motor/pump/tank are up high out of the workspace. Once I got mine I found car repairs are so easy that my “projects” are much more serious now.
