    I had a random idea pop up into my head where you score the skin on the squash to make it easier to peel. Not sure if it works though, just came up with it after thinking of scoring potato skins to make them easier to peel after cooking.

    Keep some pre prepared vegetable/chicken in the freezer or other meat or stock to add to your butternut puree to give it more of a soupy consistency & some savory flavor.

    I cut the butternut squash into horizontal slices about one inch thick and then cut off the skins before boiling or baking. It works much easier that way. I don't make soup but Chilean Squash baking it with cheese and spices and peppers. It's delicious.

    Five minutes to cut the thing in half? Sheesh Besides, cooking is a process. Do it and you get good results! Not everything has to be quick and easy, somethings are harder or take longer to complete. That's the beauty of it, instant things aren't all that great always

    I think the skin didn't peel off easily because you didn't roast it long enough--try leaving in for 15~20min longer than you did, it should look kinda deflated with more caramelization on the edges. That level of roasting also makes for better final flavor in your soup!

    That looks great! I'm not much of a cook, but I've been thinking it would be great to make tonkatsu! I've been experimenting with other Japanese dishes with great success, but I have no experience deep frying. What do you end up doing with the leftover oil?

    • @TiffanyAYeh
      @TiffanyAYeh 3 роки тому

      Hi great question! I keep plastic containers from takeout meals or old spaghetti jars or even milk cartons and put the old oil in them to throw away. Basically anything that you can seal and toss. Usually you shouldn’t reuse old oil multiple times so I just use fresh oil every time :) It’s also why a lot of Asian households have random containers and jars around the house LOL just make sure the oil is cold before you put it in the discard container!

    • @TiffanyAYeh
      @TiffanyAYeh 3 роки тому

      Also if it’s your first time deep frying, make sure you watch some more tutorials to know some safety when it comes to frying like not overfilling the pot, making sure the food is dry before frying, and have some baking soda nearby in case of oil fires!
