I just had my recall colonoscopy yesterday ! The same as 10 years ago.....bowel prep taste like $hit !!
Great video, I am 64, have had 2 screenings so far. No polyps ever found. My two siblings have both been full of them. Not sure why I have never had one even, but I'll take it.
I'm 52 and haven't had a colonoscopy. I have to be honest, this entire process pisses me off. We're in the 21st century, isn't there an easier way to do this? My prep starts four days prior and culminates in cutting my diet and drinking this awful fluid 24 hours prior. I hate that all of this prep takes so long. The instructions for prep are complicated and long, don't do this, do that, pull back on this at this time on this day, etc. Just way too much to follow and understand to do correctly. And then the morning of they sit you down and go over how well you followed the instructions to get a good prep. I threw my hands-up and cancelled my colonoscopy last year and i'm about to cancel the one I have scheduled next week. This process sucks, it's not just the day before, it's several days long with a bunch of complicated BS. I"m not doing that. Make this process easier, people. You're telling me that in modern medicine we don't have a better way of doing all of this? Come on here.
Thank you for all of the tips!
Was nice and fun to see your instructions. Thank you!
Doing my prep now. 4 liters of Golightly. Barbaric. This stuff is nasty. I’ve tried everything: cold in the fridge, hard candy in my mouth while drinking it, squeezing lemon or lime juice in it, sucking on the lemon or lime (as in tequila shots), using Crystal Lite (lemon), sipping through the straw. Nothing helps except being scared of having colon cancer. Screaming after each glass helped the most. Love and good wishes to everyone going through this. Thanks Doc, for the great video. I think I will insist on a different type of prep next time.
I had my first colonoscopy 2 years ago and there was nothing found. My younger brother has to have one every 5 years and each time they do they have to remove polyps and send them off for tests.
My then 26 yr old son had a colonoscopy for an unrelated issue but they found quite a few pre cancerous polyps in him and the surgeon was shocked as he was so young. It is hereditary in our family but the grandchildren were not being screened, only us older ones. So now, all the of the grandkids have to have them the same as us. The surgeon told us that my son would have had full blown bowel cancer by his mid 30’s if it wasn’t found. We lost my uncle to it at 60, and him dying saved my mum, she has had it twice and has a stoma bag but no cancer now and is 87. So the whole family have what we call buttcam, which isn’t so bad, it’s the revolting crap that you have to drink prior that we all hate.
Do people that have had distal RNY gastric bypass need to do anything different for their colonoscopy?
Too much time spent drinking the prep.
Thanks so much for this. I am scheduled for my first on July 2. Not looking forward to it at all.
I to am 61 going on 62 I do have wat you say and thay ate going to take it out of me thak God for that one I live In Burns Oragon and bend going to Bend and redmon..i am Donald Lavern Hovey. And wat I got as well a timer is ther as well. And th hak you for putting this on you tub as well we hop to spak mister Crabs he is the sine of Caner you no thak you ok for the help as well.
But what causes these polyps in the first place, and how can polyps be prevented from forming?
Get the zero sugar gatorade its better than than the original.
Oddly enough it tasted bad but not bad, if that makes any sense😂 I just chugged it
Great video and explication.
Sorry It should have read explanation!
i love science
I had a rhabdoid tumour removed from my ascending colon at 65 After a life of exercise and being a health nut,it was the last thing i expected. No preserved meats, very little meat ,no sugar, wholemeals only and stacks of veggies I was stll doing kickboxing at 65 I can hardly walk around the block now Pet scan and colonoscopy -ve but cancer markers are still up after folfox 6
why do they not use this screening in UK,aus, canada and france
I drank beer all day a day before colon
I'm having my 3rd colonoscopy in 2 days. My advice is to use cool water in the bowel prep solution, not cold water.
I wasn’t able to finish my dose. I had only a little left but I couldn’t… (I almost threw up and that would’ve wasted it all) but I did drink all of the required water after. Hopefully I Can get through the morning one without throwing up. Thanks doctor! Update:I finished the 1st dose at 2am so I’ll probably wake up in a few hours 😅
Hello. I'm having a colonoscopy Thursday. Do you have any tips to keep the "hunger headaches" at bay?
So cool. I had my first Colonoscopy at 60, they found over 40 polyps of various sizes. All benign. The prep was awful but so glad i had the procedure.
Wow, that’s a lot of
Thanks so much for this video! You just opened my eyes literally, l I will request a colonoscopy to my Internist . 🙏
Thankyou so much for this video. I had a colonoscopy planned for Thurs 13 June. I started the prep Wed night, but nothing happened, so sadly the hospital said they're going to reschedule it. But one thing i learnt from your video was not to drink it too fast, i think it was a bit fast but not sure if that's why the prep didn't work. Jst not looking forward to doing it all again!!!
you really had to go and grap that polyp hehe :)
Is this suitable for people with kidney disease?
you would think in this day and age we would have better ways to do screenings it seems like the only way they can help you is by hurting you I did this once dont think Ill ever do it again sick and tired of doctors
You are right. Like Mammograms; barbarian.
Loved your vids on this, thanks doc!
I just had my third one. The prep is medieval but necessary. He's doing.Suprep. I didn't care for it. But that's just me.
I am 64, and scheduled to have my first colonoscopy in a few weeks..I am hopeful all will be well and have done a cologuard a few years back but am glad I am doing this after watching this video. Thoughts and prayers to everyone to stay healthy and well by doing your check ups to monitor your health and well-being.
Best of luck
be prepared for lot of pain as its over an inch in diameter and they are not gentle with it
I had my colonoscopy 3 months ago. There is no pain and easy recovery. I was able to resume normal activity in the evening.
@@tortoro6565 thanks for encouraging thoughts..
the procedure is simple. The prep sux. I have to take long sips thru a straw with the cup covered to avoid the smell and chase it w/sprite or water. LOL. Last year 3 polyps, 1 was pre cancerous. This year I worked on my diet and was Polyp FREE!!!! I hate the prep but it's the cleanest your colon will ever be!
you want people make prep that taste good i dont care how long you put that crap in the frig it still taste like shit you wouldnt think it would be that hard to make something to taste better
It is absolutely disgusting… 🤮 I’m so surprised they can’t make it taste better
Fantastic video!!
Do NOT get a colonoscopy! The prep is SO UNNATURAL AND UNNECESSARY!!! It made me so nauseus on top of all the other disgusting bs that goes along with it. America only started getting these routinely because Katie Couric made a big deal about it. Your body can heal itself naturally.
I'm doing my prep today. Just trying to stay busy. This is my 3rd colonoscopy. Good luck to everyone having a colonoscopy!
This was funny to watch while I’m drinking. I put mine in the fridge in the morning and started drinking half of at 8 pm. I hsve two hours to get it down. The other half I gave to drink at 6 am and I have two hours again. I am chasing it with Gatorade. It’s way too much to drink tho. I can’t believe how big the gallon of crap is. I just found out there ard pills you can take instead of drinking. Next time I’m taking pills. This is just gross
I can't get it down without throwing it all up so I ask for the Miralax prep which is so much better. I've had several so I kind of know a couple of secrets. 😉
Cold things, taste less bad. It's science!
Getting my 1st procedure this week and this was eye-opening, helpful, and entertaining! Thank you.
Thanks for the helpful information. This is so much better than disinformation on the ignorant and incompetent r/colonoscopy. But the infamous reddit site is generally a sewer anyway...
Thank you so much, Doctor! This was very helpful. I’ve got a Colonoscopy coming up and am using this prep vs the 2 gallons of stuff. I couldn’t keep that down at all. I’m hope is easier, and your video will definitely help! Question: Can I add something like Crystal Light (flavoring) to the 16oz of solution/water? If I’m doing solution/water, and crystal lite/water together, can I just put that together to make the mix not so bad?
Ive been having problems for the past couple months, having my colonoscopy tomorrow going through this laxative process now! Wish me health internet!❤
Why you didn't talk about the risks here instead of the book? Colonoscopy has risks but you said it's very safe. Too many scams with these doctors.
I had gastric bypass a while before I had a coloniscopy and was very familiar with a liquid diet. I used my protein shakes during the week before my prep, in hopes it would go smoothly. I had a GALLON jug of solution to drink along with all the additional water. Hopefully the next one I'll get pills. Just have your reading materials, a device for streaming, and a good supply of TP in the bathroom. You're gonna spend a long while in there. The actual procedure is a breeze. Good luck ❤
Loved the video, the reactions are comedic. Anyways, I just had one three days ago. My experience was different tho. 1st my prep was and was a gallon. They give you a lemon flavor pack, tho to me it doesnt taste that bad. And I never chill it. Chilling make me feel bloated. For me the worst part was it gave me severe hemorrhoids. My tip to 'sooth' your neither region is to clean with soap or just water after every 2-3 movements and put some lotion or ointment on after each time. Of course you want a good shower before the procedure so make sure you remove all lotion residue. Also, during the Pandemic I was due, so I did that non-invasive test you see on TV. It was far better, but you do it every 3 years. So I did the 2nd one and it came back positive. Ergo, I had to get the colonoscopy, which thank God was negative, no cancer or polyps. My advise, as trying as it may be, stick with the procedure. As this Doctor states, keep in mind, you are possibly saving your life. think of it like this, a few hours of prep vs months of surgeries, chemo, radiation, etc. IF that works, you live, but it does change your life. Good luck everyone!! Take care of yourself, this is all we get.. dont waste it!
Are the pills laxtive or stool soften
Laxative
My prep was the Golytely, because that's the only one Medicare would pay for. My dr gave some of the same helpful hints as Dr Gandolfo and it made a huge difference. After the 4 dulcolax, I started the prep, which had been refrigerated all day. It seemed to mitigate the brutal salty taste some. Then I used a straw, placing it back in my mouth to try to keep that junk off of my tongue, and took small but rapid sips and when I got the rhythm going by using my tongue, was able to take 20-30 sips without a problem. Was still nasty, but much less so than the last time I used it.
Oh wow, that was quick
