I was recently diagnosed with a redundant colon and you described my symptoms to a “T”! I tried fiber, sennakot, doculax-ALL OF IT! I was even doing colonic cleansing with water irrigation biweekly. I thought I had IBS until my most recent colonoscopy. I’m a 39yo female, low bmi, black. My functional medicine coach suggested I take magnesium glycinate and it was game changer 😭 I now poop two to three times a day, no diarrhea.. just nicely formed stool. It’s been a year and half taking it and I’m still going pretty regularly. I just adjust my dose according to my water intake that day. Thank you for this video. I hope more ppl like me learn from this and maybe see out a dx from their doc. 🙏🏾
I persisted my pcp she didnt listen to family history no referral then I myself booked appointment to do it before turning 40 hope it comes out ok and I dont pay the whole fee
Doing my 5th...or 6th colonoscopy tomorrow. I would rather try this than the Rx Golytely but my doctor prescribed this so this is it! My pharmacist called the drink, the Dulcolax, and gas pills "party in a bag". LOL
My Dad Had Colon Cancer And Now My Husband And Doctor Thinks That I Should Have A Colonoscopy But I 'm Worried And Scared
2:22 the move
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!! great video! wish you were in los angeles and i could choose you for the procedure
I've been having colonoscopies every year since I was diagnosed with crohn's disease. These pills are a life saver. The only time I haven't thrown up is with these pills and I've had 15 colonoscopies getting ready for number 16 tomorrow. Thanks crohn's disease.
This is a very entertaining and informative video. I was wondering if a beer bong would work for the prep? Thanks Doctor.
Should both men and women do colonoscopy at around 45-50?
It ain’t happening 😂
Very helpful! Thank you for posting this.
Thanks for watching!
This was actually quite an entertaining video and helpful as well! I have my procedure in 2 days, and have started diving down the rabbit hole of education... But here's the thing... I find medical things fascinating, I'm not nervous and I'm not squeamish... I'm legit curious! Is there any possibility of being able to opt for no sedation and just localized anesthetic? I have multiple polyps, and I basically want to be awake and alert and follow along like my own personal "magic schoolbus" journey 😂... Is this a thing? Or is my only option to be loopy 😂? I should preface that I'm studying to become a personal support worker, and plan on doing a bridging program into nursing! I find medical videos entertaining 🥰... Like have definitely watched discovery health surgery videos of multiple varieties!
Super interesting thanks for sharing! I'm getting colonoscopy at age 35 so I'm just searching up info out of curiosity.
This video was actually helpful. Thank you!
This is boxing day i have a colonoscopy dec 31st.
Helpful. Thanks.
I hope there is a doctor watching this who can answer this question for me. I just had my 4th colonoscopy over a 20 year period, my 10th procedure under anesthesia. For some reason this time I vomited during the procedure. (Fortunately didn’t aspirate). I woke up to severe throat pain and the post op nurse just dismissed it and said “You vomited. Nothing we can give you for that.” Then they couldn’t wait to get me out of there. I went home in extreme pain and had a ton of mucous I was coughing up for days. All seemed to be in the throat not the lungs. In the surgeons clinical notes there was no mention of my vomiting and it just said all went well. Shouldn’t there be a mention that I vomited in the clinical notes?
What about if you have had esophagus cancer surgery and your stomach is in your chest. They gave me 2 small bottles and gas pills.I had it before the surgery but now I get dumping syndrome from sugar and oil.😮 So I don't know.
Thank you!
I was told to use Miralax (14 dose bottle) with 2-28 Oz bottles Gatorade cold.
Make sure you put a towel on your bed! Trust me on that.
Thanks, Ive just had an unsuccessful Colonoscopy due to the right side of my bowel being covered in dark stools, I was on a low res diet for 5 days and had Plenvu followed instructions to the letter. Passed clear water, really disappointed. now will take senna and citramag
A fantastic alternative to the thoroughly disgusting consumption, of 1 gallon of the worst tasting liquid on our planet!!!! UNFORTUNATELY, MOST INSURANCE COVERAGES WON'T PAY FOR THE PILLS - ABOUT $120.00!!!!!
This describes my husband (68 yo) to the letter. Currently looking for answers. He probably was born with this colon issue. One doctor years ago, told him the scope would not reach, over 7 feet long! Nothing really helps. But it was helpful listening to your podcast, we have really stressed over this, fearing the worse. C word.He goes follow up results of endoscope and failed 2 colonoscopies in a couple days. This podcast helps to calm our worst fears... We shall see. Thank you so much for presenting this information.
Thanks for watching. It's a difficult condition to manage but luckily I don't think there has even been a proven association with increased risk of colon cancer.
He went to the follow up appointment. We told his GI Doctor about this video and what we learned. He said this is exactly what my husband's problem is. Born with it.. he said out of all the 21,000 he has performed colonoscopy on his is the absolute longest! No wonder he has had issues all his life. General Laxative do not work for him. Good news however.. NO Polyps or Cancer What a relief. Again thank you for this informative, excellent educational video.
Thank you. After my pregnancy I start with constipation problems and inflammation. Now, 3 years later, my GI finally found in a Xray that I have redundant colon. Right now I am taking a few medicines and fiber and thats working but I am scared of that will happen once I finish the treatment. Please, keep us updated if you find something new. Thanks for sharing.
@@paulinaleonsilva6346 will do!
Doctor/nurses never said aything about this, like to have dulcomax on hand if prep doesnt work.
What would happen if you left the polyp in the colon after it was cut off? Is the polyp "smart" enough to attach itself onto something? What does it do?
It would just pass with the stool and get flushed down the toilet. But then we would not know the histology (biopsy results).
If you are a diabetic sugar-free drinks are your friend. I did my first prep with regular Gatorade and my sugar was 230. That was high. I did the second prep I used sugar free drink and it was much better.
Holy mole , that was freaking neat , this is too cool . Man, this is really interesting how the inside of the human body looks like .
thanks!
My stomach couldn’t handle the magnesium citrate, I have severe stomach issues and took 2 Zofran and still very very sick, had to abort at 8 pm because my stomach had severe stabbing pain and jello, broth, water, nothing would stop the severe stomach pain so I had to drink a protein shake and ice cream to stop the pain. So it was a waste and not able to do endo and colonoscopy. 😢I give up!!! My father died from colon cancer younger than me but since I had oral surgery mess up my mouth and have not been able to eat solid food for into the 6th year, my stomach, bowls and general health have gone downhill and I’m so weak and sick 24-7. I can’t function. I told this to the dr. But she insisted I do m.c. the day before. Jesus why can’t doctors LISTEN to the patient, I knew I couldn’t handle that stuff and called a week before because there was no instructions on how to prep. 🤷♀️ I was ignored until 2 days before. I’m soooooo sick for nothing and pissed!!! Don’t know what to do now. Obviously I will not be there at 6 am tomorrow!!!!
I could drink the liquid every day… I love it!
Ok, “Its my personal observation that drinking cold bowel prep is 43 percent easier than drinking room temperature bowel prep” has to be the most amazing quote on you tube. Excepting persons not understanding…
Spoke with the receptionist at my clinic on Monday, first ever colonoscopy booked for January 21st 12:30 PM. 2 weeks after my 36th birthday. Due to chronic constipation I’m doing a double prep (8L) using Peglyte. Liquids only starting 2 days before, 2 dulcolax 2 days before, 3 x 2L doses of Peglyte the day before as well as 2 more dulcolax, then thx final 2 litres at 7AM, 5 1/2 hours before my procedure. My family has a nasty history of colonic polyps, colon cancer, and chronic constipation. This better work the first time so I can finally get answers. I’m scared to death
I added a bit of Apple juice, not much to my glassful of prepared colon cleanse prep each time. My daughter gave me the greatest help tip. To plug my nose with my fingers while drinking each glassful. It helped right away. I didn't have any trouble with nausea at all. Highly recommend. Smelling makes the problem.Using a straw was worse.
Here in the UK we only get sedation which does not put you to sleep. In fact I watched mine on the screen and it was fascinating. The procedure really isn’t that bad at all. I’d have no problem doing another one. It’s the preparation of the bowel that’s the worse.
SO helpful!
I enjoy your videos, so much great information from a practicing doctor!
Thanks so much!
My drs office doesn't give the prep drink and i have to do my own prep but i have slow bowel movements and i have to go on a 2 to 3 day liquid diet for my colonoscopy this Friday and i have mirlax senna and magnesium citrate
I take Miralax daily for chronic constipation and it works really well. Would it still work as a bowel prep since my body is used to it? I take 17 grams daily. My GI doc would not even discuss alternative bowel prep or alternative to colonoscopy.
Still have the 4 litre collyte her in alberta ..it's discusting. Why don't we have this prep in the video . 16 oz versus 4 litres .
My cologuard was positive. They making me go to a major hospital because I have sleep apnea. I also got the lucky gallon size jug.
What did they find during your colonoscopy? I had a positive cologuard and my colonoscopy is in a few days.
Do you have any tips for elderly people who are not fit and suffer from exhaustion during the cleaning out. Sitting for too long on the toilet is to painful and running for hours between the bed to rest and the toilet is also bad. Also the blood pressure is not ok because of the exhaustion. The taste of the prep is bad but what comes next is really hell if the person is weak. Any tips are so welcomed. Thank you. I can recommend Fanta as a side liquid.
This is just the calm, empathetic, reassuring video I needed right before prep. So much contradictory info on the internet, and even in the info my doctor’s office sent me. Your clarity on the goals of the prep is very helpful.
Im waiting for my colonoscopy appointment date, but have seen my mum prep for the procedure more than once as she has ulcerative colitis and now its suspected I have the same. Bring on the prep 😅
Thank you Doctor very Informative. Lincoln, N.E.🌱
Disgusting? I had a colonscopy recently (in Switzerland) and for bowels cleaning a product named Picoprep. Two small packages of powder with a pleasant citrus flavour for 150 ml of water each (and around 1 liter water taken spread over several hours). Done.
Thanks for couching all that good info in your good humor.
good evening, thanks for this video. I watched it last night after taking my first dose of the prep and struggling! this morning. I followed your instruction on preparing it and putting it in the fridge. It was a lot easier and I also used lemon juice and ice chips to chase it down. I had my colonoscopy this afternoon and happy for a good result and not having to do this again for another five years.
WATCHING THIS VIDEO MADE ME REALIZE "FUKK THIS"!!! I DONT WANT MY COLON PERFORATED.
WARNING YOU MAY HAVE YOUR COLON PERFORATED BY THE TESTER
@4:34 Right ! Taste like puss mixed with pee. Add some mix that you add to water to make it like koolaid..
