Our hospital in Arkansas uses a Miralax prep minus the citrate. I drank Simply Lemonade w Miralax because instructions said any clear liquid and I don't like Gatorade. It was easy, it worked, I felt good and I still love Simply Lemonade! Thx for letting people know there's a better way. Maybe more ppl will get their colonoscopies. I will share.
@@armyBoi17 my son gets yearly colonoscopies. He splits the prep and does half with apple juice and the other half with lemonade. This way he doesn't get nauseated from so much of the same flavor. Never had an issue using the apple juice and he prefers it over gatorade.
I had my first colonoscopy today. This video was SO HELPFUL! I especially appreciate the pictures at the end showing what the toilet supposed to look like. Thank you!! ❤
I had my colonoscopy yesterday. I used this prep with Gatorade. Started at 5PM the day before and utilized the 8oz/ 15 min and then drank the bottle of citrate at 7AM the morning of the procedure. (my procedure was at 13:00). The post procedure report card from my physician rated my bowel prep as EXCELLENT. Thank you for the great information.
I just met my GI doc for the first time today. I’m 35 years old and I’ve had constipation issues my whole life. He wasted no time in ordering a colonoscopy to find out what’s going on. My entire family pretty much has issues with either colon cancer or constipation. He’s ordered a double prep so I have to go 2 days without eating and drink 8 litres of Peglyte instead of 4. Due to my health issues I’m having my colonoscopy done in the hospital instead of at the clinic he normally performs them at. I’m so nervous lol. I talked to my doctor about all the concerns I had regarding the anesthesia and he assured me that although I would not be able to have nitrous oxide for the IV start I could numb my hand and be given oral sedation (lorazepam) before hand. My test will be sometime in January.
Thanks for all the solid info. I’m going to do the Miralax prep because of constipation. Been plagued my entire life with it. My family refers to me as “full of it” ! Off to the store…..thanks! Your “dry humor” cracked me up.
Gatorade/mirilax prep is what I used the 1st time . I had no problems and test was good. This week I had my 10year check and was prescribed a 4liter golytely version. Major fail. Got thru 3 glasses and feeling awful, 2 more glasses and had to stop, take the anti-nausea pill wait 30min. and continue. Vomited all of it up.
For those who don’t like Gatorade(it’s nauseatingly sweet for me) I mix the Miralax with either SmartWater or Propel. This provides the electrolytes the same as Gatorade would.
I started the prep around noon because I don't want to be up all night. Didn't matter, I was still up crapping every hour. Stools were clear so I didn't bother with the magnesium citrate the day of the colonoscopy. I didn't want to stop to crap on the way. Appointment went great.
Great video, Every Doctor should have this video sent to their patients. I feel better knowing that someone like yourself explained the procedure clearly. Thank you
Going to have first colonoscopy next week with this prep thank you so much for the video. And, i appreciate the helpful information in the comments. I am not as nervous about the prep
I've got one coming Monday after the weekend & I lost my Drs instructions. Luckily they went over it enough before I left the office that I remember the bullet points but I wasn't sure. Thx for the information. It sounds like what I remember them saying lol
Thank you. This was informative. I absolutely hate powdery-tasting things so it was good to know that even though it is a powder, hopefully, it won't be that bad.
I had 2 small polyps removed 10 yrs ago and then had a colonoscopy last January where he found and removed 20 non cancerous polyps. I was shocked. Now I have to do yearly scopes and I’m hoping my dr approves me using alternative bowel prep to go lytely. I had gastric bypass 13 yrs ago and it’s hard for me to drink so much. I also have sphincter issues from a traumatic child birth so the prep is super hard for me. I start a bit earlier than 6pm, like 4pm to be able to get all the gallon prep in. I also have nausea issues with anesthesia so I request a scopolamine patch to wear that day. It helps a lot. I apply it the night before to get it in my system before the procedure.
I will definitely do this prep, I have done Sutab (horse pills) 😂 made me so nauseous I cried. I’m suppose to get colonoscopy every five years and was telling myself that I couldn’t do Sutabs again.
Getting my 2nd one tomorrow. My prep instructions were a little different. At noon i took 4 Dulcolax. At 3 i will drink half the gatorade/miralax and 7 the other half. My procudure isn't until 12:15 tomorrow. The Dulcolax alone started the process pretty well.
@@Sleepyhollow1608 It went really well. Not fun and I haven't had Gatorade since then 😀. The procedure itself was very easy and I'm glad I was out for it. Good for 7 years now.
Had my first back in April. My Drs prep was kinda weird. Appointment was for a Monday morning so his instructions were to start Saturday afternoon with the 2 Dulcolax pills and an entire 12oz bottle of Milk of Magnesium. Then Sunday was all liquids and the Miralax prep starting at 5pm. I think I was totally clean before starting the Miralax due to all the Milk of Magnesium. Needless to say the procedure went well.
First two colonoscopies I was prescribed Golytely. That stuff is so vile that any doctor still prescribing that should be forced to drink a gallon of it just like their patients so they can see how bad it is. Next time I had Moviprep. While not as horrid as Golytely (much smaller volume, much better texture, but still tasted pretty bad), I still had difficulty finishing the prep. Fortunately, my next GI doc prescribed the same prep you outlined in this video and, for the first time, consuming the prep wasn't the difficult part. As you said, Miralax basically tastes like nothing and while I don't like Gatorade, it isn't horrible like the prescription preps.
My instructions tell me to take 4 tablets at the start, 1 28oz bittle of gaterade 4 hours later, 2 more tablets 2 hours after that. Then the next morning about 5 hours before prep, drink the other 28oz gaterade with the powder. Is taking the 6 tablets necessary? Or is it just suggested to make sure that the colon gets cleaned out?
Great video I have yet to call for an appt because I have so much anxiety about it but this eased my mind a little bit also without getting too graphic, I appreciated the toilet view at the end so I know what to look out for
Have you done it yet? The prep… this exact one.. is easy. I thought it’d be terrible. It’s not, and what’s more… my anesthesiologist used propofol. Milk of amnesia. It is amazing. You are out in seconds. And you wake up like nothing happened. You will feel bloated because they use air in the tube . That’s why you’ll hear the nurses tell you to fart excessively. Just let it rip. You’ll be in recovery during that time. The doc will come in and show you results. And in another hour or less.. you are out the door.. to go on about your day. Don’t eat heavy after even though you’ll want to. Ease back into it
Had an inconclusive colonoscopy, prep didn't clean me out. Did MiraLAX mixture and high dose. Poop was clear but still not cleaned out enough so this time I'm doing a prescription jug, for Dulcolax pills. Hope it works this time because I don't wanna go through it again.

As far as looking at the bottom of the toilet bowl to gauge how well you prepped.....what about if your toilet bowl has a yellowish tint due to hard water? I live in Kentucky where we have a lot of lime deposits (Mammoth Cave ring a bell?) and it's very difficult to keep the bowl clean. How do we tell the difference?
I'm not a doctor, but in my experience (and as this video shows) some color in the bowl is fine. What you need to make sure is that there are no solids still coming out. If you see anything other than liquid (whether clear or yellow) then your prep is not done.
Great video doctor. I’m having my colonoscopy on Monday September 9. I’m nervous. I dread the prep and the sedation. I heard a colonoscopy can be done without sedation but I don’t think that’s the right thing to do. I have lots of anxiety so if they relax me I think that’s best. Your video was very helpful with the prep.
If you’re nervous about the injection ask them if they can give you laughing gas to take the edge off things. And have the doctor explain things and reassure you. They took me off the gas after that because the hard part was over. Hooked me up to all the sensors and such. Then he says “you’re gonna feel a flush of warm or cold and then you’re gonna go right to sleep.” I felt the warmth after the propofol was injected and 2 seconds later I was out.

Well thanks for ruining Italian Wedding Soup for me for the rest of my life, Doctor!!! Just kidding 😂. Thanks for the great video but you really shouldn’t have harmed that beautiful Italian Wedding soup. Still traumatized!! 😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
Great VIDEO!
