Peacock vows, losing time and starting fresh #2025 #newyear #history #facts #2024 #story #youtube
Perhaps few things resound so completely in the human heart as notching out the passage of time with temporal landmarks that interrupt the ordinary day to day occurrences of life.
I suspect you’ve noticed by now, that humans are instinctively drawn to rituals, and anything allowing us to separate time into before and after, while sloughing off weight of our past failures and negative experiences while embracing the potential our future holds, is of particular importance to our journey.
Drawing that line indelibly in bold black ink on our mental timeline gives us permission to figuratively wipe our slate clean and begin again with a renewed vigor strengthened by a backbone of hope.
Behavioral scientists call this the “Fresh Start effect”
We hope you have enjoyed the video and that if you have you will consider liking, commenting and even sharing with your family and friends, as all of it helps our channel continue to grow.

In a little town under Roman authority during the reign of Herod the great young Jewish girl, newly engaged to be married, found herself suddenly the object of God’s undivided attention. She was no different in her community than other girls her age, surrounded by her family and relatives, hard working tradesmen who spoke fluently in Aramaic with a Galilean accent. And yet on this as she went a...

By the 1950s, Tom Smith and Co. were manufacturing 30,000 crackers a week filled with their very particular goodies for merry makers to share at their Christmas tables and other seasonal celebrations. Still today, the Tom Smith brand is the go-to for luxury crackers and supplies the crackers for the households of the Royal family. In the Little House, these fun little favors are a source of del...

Charles Dickens unfolded his classic Christmas story with an expert hand. His detailed writing pierced his readers’ soul by engaging their own imagination in the fight for the redemption he visualized necessary for them. Using such detailed writing that one could hardly fail to be transported to the London of the Victorians and practically smell the chestnuts roasting as the hawkers call out to...

In the little house where the pixies are busily whipping up a sleigh full of goodies to be distributed to those who have fallen reasonably close to Santas good list in the past year, the kitchen has been in a perpetual state of disarray. Because becoming impromptu holiday bakers and confectioners is no joke! As a matter of fact, if there’s anything a pixie takes incredibly seriously…it’s chocol...

In our home we’ve been creating soft chewy ginger snaps and gingerbread men at the holidays... Since anyone can really remember… And no holiday season is complete without at least one batch of the buttery, gingery, molasses and brown sugar sweetened, cookies being decorated by the pixies in the Little House. And we are certainly not unique in embracing gingerbread at Christmas time… All anyone ...

As the sun rose and cast its illumination across the landscape, the snow that covered the ground seemed to glitter and on the corner of Linden and North Main Street a glorious eight-foot stranger stood observing the newly waking town. Folks who had been scurrying to avoid the cold from nipping their features and freezing their hands and feet, came to a sudden and complete halt, staring with awe...

To our modern tastes, undoubtedly jaded by the amount of refined sugar and flour we consume yearly, fruitcakes seem antiquated, heavy and unnaturally stuffed with garishly colored candied fruit, giving it a similar connotation as meeting a clown… outside the circus… just a bit off setting. The traditionally heavy fruit filled cakes are often spoken of with horror even by those who have never be...

On September 21st, Francis Pharcellus Church, a seasoned journalist, set pen to paper in response to the little girls' pensive letter before sending it to press in one of the most famous editorials in American History… “Yes, Virginia,” the prim black print read. “There is a Santa Claus!” The singular line, in of itself, was enough to put the young child’s heart at rest, coming from such an ausp...

Another wonderful video. I'm sorry it has taken me so long to try to catch up with your calendar. More great lessons! I didn't know how popular ginger cookies and ginger bread men were/are. I keep ginger gummies on hand in case of nausea and I love it with sushi. And fresh ginger makes a great hot tea. But, I hadn't realized it was a favorite treat and dessert. Thank you for making me smarter, and hungrier. 😆❤
@sandychilds3758 We love it with sushi, too, and we make fresh grated ginger tea, as well! ❤️ I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos...
i like the practice
Wonderful job! Looking forward to mote beautiful content in the new year ❤
@@spinstercatlady Thank you!❤️
Loved it! Amazing sculptor, angel, and story. I am slowly catching up. Thank you for my continuing education! Such beautiful work. 🤩
Thank you, and Merry Christmas!❤
I didn't know that Johnny Carson started that theory that there is only really one fruitcake being passed around, but sounded true to us. The most re-gifted Christmas present ever. It's almost like a game of musical chairs. When the music stops, one who ends up with the fruitcake loses? 🤣 Thanks for my latest history lesson! And another wonderful video! Panettone is at least palatable when toasted and buttered. 👍🏻
Can you imagine, singing and dining with people and then shooting to try to kill them? Very bad manners for hosts and/or guests. 😂 Humans (especially the male of the species) are so insane. War is insane. Such a waste of life for what? Greed? Power? 🤪Thank you for another wonderful history lesson, girls. Your one mistake was saying that Hitler had a heart. There is no proof of that. 😝
Beautiful!
Merry Christmas...❤
I love how whimsical and informative these videos are! 😊
Nothing says holiday celebration like a small explosion in your hands 😅😉 ❤️
I haven't had one of these in a long time. How fun! 🎉
Homegoods probably still has a shelf of them if you hurry!😂
I'll have to give it a watch tonight! Love your Christmas content 🎄
@spinstercatlady Thank you very much, and Merry Christmas.😊
@verityhouseinspired9184 a very merry Christmas to you and yours as well!
I love seeing the Peanuts cartoon strips from past years. Blessings
Amazing research! What a terrible way to lose his wife 😢
@jobryantjab I thought the same thing about his loss... broke my heart.💔
Magical! ❤
We are perpetually missing spoons. Idk where they go. They are simply gone. Including measuring spoons and wooden spoons. We have decided that the notorious husvaettir known as "spoon-licker" has taken them all to his Smog-like hoard in the mountains.
Body goosebumps and tears
Thank you so much for watching...❤
How do I not own a snow globe?! I KNEW something was missing from my life!🔮😊
Maybe Christmas (he thought) doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more.” - The Grinch
Another great job! Learning so much. 🤗
Thank you for another beautifully done and informative video! ❤
The Pixies also love Christmas Hallmarks! Though everyone agrees, they have trouble ending their movies...😂 I'm glad you are enjoying the Video Advent! It makes it worth it!❤
Love it! Thanks for confirming Santa's existence. 🎅🏼Life would be dreary without him. And now in keeping with the theme, I have to go watch Hallmark's "The Santa Class." Hallmark has never heard of enough is enough. 🤗 Three Christmas movies a week for at least a month or six weeks before Christmas and then Christmas in July, too. 😂 They do know how to milk a good thing, like Coca Cola with Santa Claus. Life might be dreary without Hallmark movies, too. 😆Last night they mixed it up a bit with a Hanukkah movie, as it coincides with Christmas this year. 🕎Cheers to your wonderful work with your Advent Calendar and for keeping up our spirits! Too bad I don't have some of your eggnog or hot chocolate for the movie. 🥂
At least I know where my socks are. Those mischievous gnomes. And yes. I do hold onto those single socks. 😂 You never know... Magic happens when elves are afoot.
Perhaps, with some properly buttered porridge... you may be able to reunite your pairs of socks! One can dream!😂
Another historical thing I never learned. You are teaching us all things Christmas. Thank you! Such fun editing. 🤗
Kelsey is awesome with the editing!❤
Jolly St. Nick. I didn't know Santa Claus myth was based on a generous priest. Now if only he'd throw a bag of gold through our windows and keep those stockings full of unnecessary trinkets. 🤣
That would be helpful!❤😅😂
I love greeting cards! I used to collect them. Then I began designing them, until Adobe got greedy and ruined my Photoshop biz. 🧐🤣Your video again has history I never knew before. Your grandmother used to string all the Christmas cards they received around the house. Talk about too many friends. It added to the festiveness of her Christmas decorations. It surprised me to see a pic of my mom pop up in your video. 😵💫 She loved the holidays! Maybe because it was so close to her birthday, she grew up thinking all the fuss was for her. 😂
@@sandychilds3758 I remember the cards strung up and forever. I just thought that's what everyone does with their Christmas cards!🤣 Grandma was quite something...I always wished I had her ability to remember everyone's special days and get cards out that arrived before whatever day it was! I did not get that gene, sadly...❤️
And I'm sorry Adobe did that to you!😢
Thank you! I love snow globes. Interesting backstory on them that I did not know. You are such a good researcher and teacher. Your grandmother gave me a globe filled with fine white sand and shells that you can shake up to reveal different shells in different positions. I guess she knew her family would prefer sand and seashells 🐚even though we love snow globes.☃ 🤗
@@sandychilds3758 Grandma really did know her people well!❤️ That sounds like a wonderful globe! Thank you for being so encouraging! Love you!❤️
You're right. That was a delicious little video. Makes me want to watch Juliette Binoche's and Johnny Depp's Chocolat again. Loving chocolate should be enough to get everyone fighting global climate change/warming and deforestation if nothing else does. Chocolate could be extinct by 2050 if we don't come up with better plans. Thank God I'll be dead by then. A world without chocolate? Impossible. That would be hell. 😝
Great fun. You are so good at pulling all the stories and history together. Great editing. Got to love the Grinch. I think Jim Carrey was later the best Grinch. And I love Chuck Jones. Oh, and, of course, Warner Bros. 😂
Yummy!
Again, you teach me so much. I had not heard that sad story about our famous poet, Longfellow. 😢Wonderful Advent stuff you all do. Thank you, Pixies and Mama! ❤
By the time you finish your Christmas advent calendar, you will be ready to teach a master class on celebrations of Christmas around the world. 🌟 Love the continuing history lessons! Makes me nostalgic for my Christmases past and as though I am there with you enjoying yours. 🎄💝🎁 Thank you for such a cozy season at your house! I can almost smell all the wonderful Christmas scents and delicious treats. 🍰🍪 🥰
I love watching your videos!!! You have the most lovely voice! Perfect for narrating!!! The videos are some of the best on UA-cam by far! Always a treat! Too funny about your father! Christmas, born on Christmas! I've never heard that before! Very unusual for sure, but all the better to tell lively stories over! Have a wonderful Christmas season! Thanks for starting mine off just right! 🥛🍪❄️🎄☃️❄️⛄⭐🤶🎅🦌🛷
Thank you for such a lovely comment!!! You made our night, and mine in particular.😊 We appreciate you taking the time to encourage us...❤ Merry Christmas to you!!!🎄
Thank you for another great edifying video. I didn't know all those Christmas facts or glass blowing facts. Can never have too much blown glass! 😂
We absolutely agree!❤
Another fun time at the little house! Thanks for the invitation. 🤩Now I have to go out and find some eggnog. Could be eggnog's prices will be going up soon between bird flu, corp gouging, etc. Albertsons' shelves were completely devoid of eggs yesterday. 🤔
Let's hope not!😢 thank you for watching! Love you!❤
Correction: George Washington's parties, would have only have been talked about for a "couple of centuries" and not "couple hundred" centuries, as I mistakenly said in the video... That WOULD have made them epic parties, indeed... if time travel had been involved!😂
Maybe you are prescient and they will be talked about for hundreds of centuries to come. That's a guy who knew how to throw a party! He would have loved your grandparents. 🤣
Do you think that a Lakhovsky coil about 2-4" above the top water line in your tree holder would stimulate your tree to grow roots? Just a thought - Blessings
I genuinely never thought of that... Thanks for watching and for commenting. Merry Christmas!
@@verityhouseinspired9184 Merry Christmas and The Lord's Blessings to you and yours!!
@@davidwidman1410 Thank you!
you wrapped the first antenna "clockwise" from the bottom and then the second one "clockwise" from the top, they aren't the same direction. it also does not matter which direction you wind the coil, as far as i can tell. if you're interested in the science i'd recommend being a little more rigorous with testing- maybe the direction does matter, but for most magnetic applications it does not. try setting up 3 different plants, one with the wire wrapped in one direction, one the other direction, and one with no antenna at all. then give each one the exact same treatment and record the results
i feel like this would be easier to do with a literal electret, skip the work, magic wax ring that permanently creates an electric field.
Thank you! And you are right... she wasn't thrilled! 😂 And she was a wonderful cook and a brilliant grandmother...❤
Thanks for the history lesson, again! And for brief shots of my folks. 🥲 I don't eat turkey, but, as always, your team created meals look quite divine. And your grandmother made the best stuffing I ever had. I'm sure she was a tad miffed that her granddaughter would even think her recipe needed tweaking. 🤣
Robust trial?
A bit of sarcasm...😂😊
The stem has long strong fibers, very good for making string.
Very interesting... Thank you!
thanks for the insight
Thank you!❤
Thank you, girls, for another amazing history lesson! And thanks for my newly found paranoia of pretty plants and flowers, carrot mimics, and peppers so hot they could launch a rocket to an outer planet. 🪐Eaters beware. 😳 Your editing is fun with enough moving parts to keep those with severe ADHD engaged. 😂 Another great video! 👏🏻
What did you use to cut the indents?
We used a jeweler's sauntering iron we got at Michael's art supply store. The flat tip worked really well. Thanks for watching the video!😊
@ thank you!
As a former video producer, I have to say, that's a magnificent opening! And the video treatment of the poem itself, as well. You might want to slow down just a tad for the reading. You won't believe this, but I have proved that Edgar Allan Poe's claim to this poem was merely a scam. It was written in December of 1841, from real-life circumstances, by Mathew Franklin Whittier, the brother of the Quaker poet John Greenleaf Whittier. Poe scooped it by three days, stripping out Mathew's pseudonym, "(blank) Quarles," and replacing it with his own name. He then scooped the legitimate premiere by three days in the daily newspaper he wrote for, the NY Evening mirror, pretending to his editor (VERY implausibly) that he had permission. Mysteriously, he left the "Evening Mirror" soon after that.
Thank you for the lovely compliment and the good advice to slow down a bit... always good advice. 😊 Your information regarding Poe is VERY interesting! Poe was my grandmother's great uncle and when I did a report on him in grade school, she was clear that the family wasn't thrilled with him and his vices. Given her tone of voice, I suspect my grandmother would not be surprised by your claim. I wish I could remember the conversation with greater detail, but that was a "few" years back.😂 Thank you for sharing that information we shall have to look into this very soon...😊
@@verityhouseinspired9184 I wish you *could* remember that! So your grandmother would have been in the lineage of Poe's adopting (or almost adopting) father, is that correct? (I'm so terrible at figuring out family relations). The history makes out his disapproval of Poe to be unfair, but I'm thinking it may not have been.
I'm going to have to do a little digging in my papers and find the exact lineage... There are so many things you wish as an adult that you had thought to ask when you had the chance. I do have family records, so this would probably be an interesting study for the Pixies and I to dig into.😊
He stole it from Tesla, whom didn't patent the technology.
