    The electric outboard is kind of nice considering there is no longer a need for boat storage space for half a dozen gas cans or hoping some marina gas island is manned with room to tie up. Notice that after looking at the market and actually testing several electric outboards Nkki and Jason Wynn also elected to go electric for their new light weight Catamaran dinghy. The Wynn's have observed that there seems to be less and less gas available in the south sea islands.

    Ah yes, I know exactly that feeling of confusion! I bought my Catalina last season and am only now getting to tracing and labelling the wires - it's extremely difficult because many of the wires disappear behind inaccessible spots. I'm happy that all of the electrical actually works. Also slowly changing the hoses - dreading to change the sanitation hoses!

    Tina. Andreas. Good to see 'real' boaters taking an objective search for an electric outboard. We have looked at similar models - so many new developments in this sector - that it has convinced us that the 'ship-to-shore' electric motor market has arrived! You may also wish to look at the EP Carry motor out of Seattle. We did a number of interviews with the founder, Joe Grez, and recently attended his masterclass on this exact topic. While not a great video quality - the information is very useful for anyone looking to buy an electric outboard motor. You can find the entire interview here ua-cam.com/video/mYxQA6JXRoU/v-deo.html Good luck on your search and your 'new' boating life!

    after sailing for many years, I always carried an extra filter for every one I had on my boat. Wavw action and a little bit of debris in the fuel tank can fill a filter and leave you stuck. Extra filters on board can save you.

    When you forgot to take out the oil filter, you can just run the engine for a few minutes to let the new oil to circulate and push out and dilute the leftover dirty oil that are stuck in the oil pump and other nooks and crannies that unable to drain out and then drain it afterwards, imagine it like you’re using water to rise out soap. That way you have a cleaner engine with less dirty debris which prolongs your engine life. You should do that flush once every 3-4 oil change or so, with additional engine flush product as well if you wish. If you take care of your engine well and use full synthetic oil and change your oil at the right interval every time, just flushing your engine with new oil is enough, no need to use engine flush product but you can use it either way if you want a peace of mind, it’s up to you.

    • @SailingPytiss

    We've got the Spirit and use it on our 10' RIB dingy. The dingy flips up on a mount on the swim platform of our trawler, so the motor need to get removed when we store it and put on when we deploy it. This means it has to be lifted up and over the roughly 4 foot transom, so light weight is important. Being able to separate the parts in lighter pieces is useful. Also, the battery on the spirit floats if dropped. At full throttle, the RIB goes just over 5 MPH, almost exactly as fast as the Torqueedo, which we also tested. The spirit replaced a 2 HP Honda , which needed a carb disassembly and cleaning before each season and because it had a centrifugal clutch ( no shifter ) was hard to control at low speeds and needed to be spun around for reverse. It was also air cooled and noisy. We love the silence of the electric and it's easy to control. Before, we had to yell to have a conversation, now the loudest noise is the water gurgling. Would not go back.

    • @SailingPytiss
      @SailingPytiss 5 місяців тому

      Thank you for those insights Eric, yeah we are seriously looking at the Spirit. Also found the eLite which is new and even smaller. We are hoping to test it in the coming weeks at a dealer to see how it works on our tiny dinghy.
