Great conversation. Loved it. Couldn’t agree more with the points that were made about the focus of clubs AND parents ripping the joy and love of playing the game from them. I’ve thought about that a lot since my son just finished his d3 soccer career this last fall. I think I can count on fewer than 4 fingers and a thumb the number of boys he played club soccer with who are still playing. Can’t help but think that the pressures from clubs and parents growing up didn’t impact that to some extent. Many quit playing during high school. Thank you for highlighting Wisconsin soccer. It’s better than most think and is often overlooked.

Congrats on 3 years SC! There's a lot to be said about the amount of work and the grind it takes to put out regular content. Thank you!

There needs to be a winning percentage threshold. .600 should be good enough. There is no reason a team below that W% should be in the tournament. A hard floor will screen out the teams that are simply getting in due to their conference and SOS.

UW-Superior could be used as an example of the point you made regarding NPI. Their regular season record was 15-3-2. There season ending NPI was 72. Had they not won their conference tournament they wouldn’t have gotten a bid to the NCAA tournament given their conference/SOS. Yet they showed they could play with the best teams by beating North Park and last year’s champion St. Olaf. Then losing to Amherst in double OT in a game they were down 2-0 at one point. And, they had a red card in the 79th minute and nearly took the game to PKs with 10 men. So, SOS shouldn’t be the end all be all.

So sorry about Jackie, the videos won’t be the same but I am glad you have happy memories

As for the NPI, it weights win/losses 15%, SOS 85%. 85% is too high given the way strength of schedule is calculated- the avg NPI of your opponents. It’s a self-perpetuating system. Winning is basically taken out of the equation. That’s why you get 8 NECAC teams. Should be closer to 40/60.

Agree with Ejay that the Trinity Colorado game was underwhelming. Both teams cancelling each other out. Trinity did well to take a point away to your #2 ranked team with 10 men at altitude. They’ve shown a lot of resilience in games this year. If you get a chance to watch the Wilmington vs John Carroll game, especially the 2nd half, that was highly entertaining.

Mary Washington got by CNU 1-0 -- scoring on a penalty with 8 seconds left in the first half. CNU led in shots, shots on goal, and corners. Honestly, Mary Washington didn't look like the number 1 team in the nation on the day (I was there).
