Prague: Christmas Markets and Sites
We had a great week in Prague and were able to do just about everything we had planned.
Prague is probably one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, with amazing architecture around every corner. From the bridge to the castle and cathedral, it is truly a spectacular city to walk around.
The main square market was crazy busy, which unfortunately took away from our fun as we could hardly walk through it with the stroller. There also wasn't really anything for the kids to do. No rides, Ferris wheel, or kids' activities like some of the other markets had. But we did end up making it to all the main markets around the city, including some of the smaller ones. Our favorites were Peace Square and Na Kampe.
If you have kids, definitely check out the light park at Zlute Lazne. The kids loved seeing all the lights and it was such a nice way to end our last night. They also have a creative corner where the kids could join in craft activities, games, and dancing. And don't forget to grab a few marshmallows from the shop for roasting outside by the fire pit.

Winter in Bratislava, Slovakia: Christmas Markets & Sites
Переглядів 3919 годин тому
One of our favorite cities in all of Europe. Bratislava is such an underrated location, especially during Christmas market time. The city is so much less crowded and feels more local and authentic. The city is beautiful and there are opportunities for amazing views all around the city. The Christmas markets here have one of the best selections of foods we have seen in Europe. Our favorites were...
Budapest, Hungary: Buda Castle, Fisherman's Bastion, & St. Stephen's Basilica

What a beautiful city!! We managed to do so much on this day and safe to say we were exhausted by the end. Buda Castle is stunning and has the BEST views over the river! The Fisherman's Bastion was another cool place in the castle district, with equally stunning views and amazing architecture. Both were free things so that was another plus for us. The day ended with us making our way back over ...
Budapest, Hungary: Central Market Hall & Christmas Markets

This day did not go as planned, but when you have kids you gotta just go with the flow. We wanted to hit the Central Market Hall and then Buda Castle, but the day just got away from us. The Central Market Hall was such a nice place to walk around on a rainy day and there were so many options for local foods and souvenirs. After we were done there, the sun was going down and we made the decision...
Budapest, Hungary: Zoo & City Park

We had a fun first day in Budapest and so happy we chose to spend it at the zoo. The kids always love a good zoo and this one was one of our faves. The zoo was huge, beautiful, and the animals looked so happy and healthy. We spent almost an entire day here and although it was winter, we still saw so many cool animals. The zoo even has a really awesome playground for the kids to let off some ene...
Vienna, Austria: Schönbrunn Palace, Christmas Market, & Zoo

This was our last day in Vienna, which is so sad! Vienna has been truly one of our favorite European cities. It is so easy to get from place to place, with super convenient and easy-to-use public transit. The food is amazing, the architecture is beautiful, and they have some of the best Christmas markets in Europe. Schönbrunn Palace was so beautiful and the zoo was such a hit with the kids. It'...
The Best Christmas Markets in Vienna, Austria!
Переглядів 45Місяць тому
On this day in Vienna, we tried to hit all the most popular Christmas markets in Vienna. Although we highly recommend checking opening times first as we did miss one that we had planned. The markets here are some of the best in Europe and so much fun, even for the kids. Isla even got to ice skate, which she's been asking for for weeks now. The food is great, the vibes are on point, there are ri...
Christmas Markets in Vienna: Belvedere Palace & Prater

Vienna has been so much fun and this was yet another great day exploring the Christmas markets. Belvedere Palace is so beautiful and maybe when the kids are older we can venture inside, which I hear is really beautiful. Walking around the gardens, however, was really nice for now. There are 3 levels of gardens, which I'm sure are even more beautiful in spring and summer when the fountains are f...
Winter in Vienna: Stadtpark & St. Stephen's Cathedral

We had such a great time in Vienna, Austria. Austria is a country we came to before the kids but never quite made it to the capital. It is such an easy city to explore, with amazing public transportation. Stadtpark is a great place to let the kids play and run off some energy. It's also nice just to walk around and admire the gardens and sculptures. We also got to walk by the Vienna Opera House...
Istanbul to Vienna: A very long travel day!
Переглядів 2382 місяці тому
We try not to let travel days stress us out too much but when they seem to never end it makes it tough! The hardest part of traveling with kids is exactly that - the traveling part! Travel days with little ones are NEVER easy, especially with a 1- and 3-year-old. It's crowded, hot, boring, and their poor little ears hurt on the plane. It gets even worse when flight times don't align with typica...

A lot has happened in the last few weeks so we figured we would create a video summing it all up. We left Cappadocia, stopping at the largest salt lake in Turkey on the way to Ankara. Unfortunately, we didn't do much in Ankara aside from errands. But this just gives us another reason to come back to Turkey in the future. After two days in Ankara, we headed to Istanbul for the final leg of our T...

We had so much fun in Cappadocia and this last day was no different. Pigeon Valley was just as beautiful as the rest and once we started seeing all the different birds, it became even more magical. Zelve Open Air Museum was a last-minute addition to our plans, and we only made it there about an hour before closing. However, it was such a pleasant surprise. We even loved it better than the Gorem...

    These men were police or soldiers I understood from their haircuts and weapons that they were soldiers or plainclothes police. You are very nervous. This is not America. Everyone loves, caresses, kisses and plays with children. We do not see everyone as a pervert. Our religion commands us to love children because they are sinless and pure like angels the beauty in them comes from God and we admire it. this has nothing to do with sex.

      Thanks for your reply. This was the first time we had this encounter and over our time of 3 months in Turkey we had many more encounters like this. We came to realize that this is normal and that the people of Turkey are some of the kindest we have ever met.

  • @kaburgadolmas2512

    YOU ARE TOO TENSE. You misunderstood everything This is not America, we communicate by touching each other You thought of Turkey as an unsafe life in your country We kiss, smell and love children. Even if we don't have our own children. There may be many perverts in America, but everyone loves children here

    • @gabbettfamilytravels
      @gabbettfamilytravels 2 місяці тому

      You obviously did not read what we wrote! We came to realize that this is normal in Turkey and embraced it. We have never thought of Turkey as an unsafe country or we would never have gone there. Coming from America our first instinct is to be fearful and uncomfortable of things that are not common in our home country. We truly love Turkey and the people but if you grew up in America you would understandably be questionable at first. Thanks for watching!

    Thank you very much for sharing your experience going to Vintgar Gorge! I'm also planning on going there this summer with my family. I'm especially worried about the "walking situation" back and forth the parking lot and I'm so happy to see your honest review of the whole experience! The gorge I'm sure was beautiful and you took a really great video despite having a toddler and a baby!

    • @gabbettfamilytravels
      @gabbettfamilytravels 3 місяці тому

      Thanks so much! Slovenia is so wonderful and was one of our favorite places. The gorge is so so beautiful and even the walk back was beautiful. But carrying kids on your back makes it a bit tougher than it should be. But I'm sure letting a 3-year-old walk would have been even tougher! Definitely arrive early and try to get a parking spot at the first parking lot rather than taking the shuttle and if you have young kids, probably plan to take a more leisurely and slow day than us. Maybe stop at the cute cafe on the walk back and grab some yummy dumplings. Hope your trip is magical!

      It certainly was strange for us to experience being from America where this does not happen. Similar instances happened to us throughout our 3 months in Turkey in different cities as well. While this particular situation may not be customary, the kindness and hospitality in Turkey certainly is 😊 We always had strangers interacting with our kids, playing with them, offering food, so to us it seemed customary. Everyone has their own experience of course.
