Gabbett Family Travels
Приєднався 17 вер 2022
Welcome to our channel! We are the Gabbett Family, an American family of 4 on a mission to 100 countries.
We quit our full-time jobs in 2023 and took our then 11-month-old and 2 1/2-year-old abroad. In our first year of full-time travel, we were fortunate enough to explore a total of 16 countries!!
We are in no way influencers, expert videographers, or professional editors. We are still learning and hope that this channel serves as a video scrapbook for our kid's memories for years to come. We hope that by sharing our travels publicly, we can encourage families to travel and to explore new places and cultures. Traveling with kids isn't easy and while our kids may not remember every trip, we hope that our travels will instill in them a love for the world and an understanding of the many people and cultures that exist in it.

What to See in the Beautiful Tirana, Albania
The third country of our Balkan road trip is Albania and we have been having a wonderful time exploring the beautiful cities and towns of the north. Tirana is such a lovely capital city, with easy-to-navigate streets, delicious food, and plenty to do. We highly suggest taking a day or two to walk the city, witnessing the green parks, modern buildings, and unique structures like The Cloud and Tirana Pyramid. Make sure you also take a day to head up the cable car for a day of adventure and amazing views. Unfortunately, the observation deck was closed during our visit, but we still had some great views from walking around the gardens. And don't forget to eat at Oda! This restaurant came to us highly recommended, and we can say it did not disappoint. They have a great variety of high-quality and delicious local foods at affordable prices. Let us know in the comments your favorite places around Tirana! Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe to our channel and check out our blog at gabbettsonthego.com for in-depth travel guides and travel tips.

Day Trip to Shala River: Albanian Road Trip

This was such a long day for us and the kids. While we understand that traveling off-season has its perks, clearly it has disadvantages as well. What should have been an hour boat ride to Shala River, took almost 3 hours, with multiple boat changes. Shala River is such a beautiful place, and the boat ride gave us some spectacular views, however, if we came again, we would definitely stay at lea...

Istanbul to Vienna: A very long travel day!
Nice video, great family.
Nice video of Kruje. You guys are awesome. Your kids are so adorable. Kruje is a very old town going back long before Skenderbeg. You guys had a feast in that restaurant hahaha. Hope you noticed the rich taste of our food. You can still find bio grown food in my country although unfortunately a lot is changing not for good. Back when I was young before 1990 food was as it's been for millennia. The north tends to cook similar to what you've eaten in Kruje but if you go south especially southeast you will find more variety of dishes. Thank you for your positive comments of my country. Have fun on your travels.
Thanks for this wonderful comment ❤ we had the most amazing time in Albania and are looking forward to a return trip someday. Kruje was definitely one of our favorite places that we visited in our time there. Thats an interesting point about the food because I did notice we had some delicious local food in kruja and Tirana, however once we moved down south toward Sarande there was more variety and less local options. It was a bit more touristy in my opinion with a less authentic feel around Sarande, although still a beautiful place. Our favorite places were kruja, gjirokaster, Tirana, and Berat! Thanks for watching our little family travel videos 😊
@@gabbettfamilytravels Yes, Sarande is touristy but Gjirokaster and Berat cook mostly traditional of course not all restaurants. But I meant our southeastern side where my grandmother was from Leskovik and boy did she cook! Pogradec, Korce, Erseke, Leskovik, Permet and the surrounding villages there. Our best food is in high mountains villages especially is you go into villagers houses. They cook organic food because the ingredients are grown in their backyards and from their cattle that are fed with wild grass and have such a rich taste and flavor.
@@albusha5150oh that sounds wonderful. We’ll have to visit those areas on our next trip!
A beautiful video. I'm confident my husband and I will be able to do these walks now!! Thank you. :)
Glad you found it helpful! You’re gonna have a great time!

Beautiful Albania 🇦🇱 like alot
@@RenatoGambino-i8w it’s a beautiful country ❤️
That mosque singing its really embarrassing for Albania 🇦🇱...it looks like being in Saudi Arabia rather than Albania 🇦🇱..really embarrassing for us Albanians
Ahh I’m curious why Albanians find it embarrassing. We found it beautiful and think it shows that different religions can live together
@gabbettfamilytravels we find embarrassing coz it's not our culture or religion. We have been occupied from ottoman empire for 500 years and forced our people to convert and left their culture in our land....our people and ancestors had nothing to do with islam. We are European people and our ancestors fought hard against Turkish occupation. It just doesn't suit our people this religion.
@@albania8982ooh I understand. Thanks for explaining
@gabbettfamilytravels Your welcome. Hope your enjoying Albania 🇦🇱 What months were you there???
@@albania8982we were there in October
Traffic in albania is ok, you are just unexperienced american drivers, that cant even drive manual. 9:10 thats not a sidewalk..
how do you compare bosna driving / roads vs albanian driving / roads? In terms of drivers but also general roads and driving culture?
They are definitely very similar in terms of road conditions and drivers. Roads are narrow and there seems to be very minimal regulation in terms of parking. In both countries you’ll see drivers speeding, illegally passing, parking on sidewalks and double parking. Many roads outside the larger cities are not maintained and mountain roads tend to be much worse, with little guardrail or otherwise. This is true of most of the Balkan countries, however Bosnia and Albania were the worst in terms of road conditions and parking. We found Albania slightly worse, with many unmaintained and narrow roads and bad drivers. We had many near misses on accidents here. Hope this helps!
@@gabbettfamilytravels thats interesting. I am from Bosnia but never visited Albania but saw videos of people mentioning people passing while driving, but I have never seen that here so I was curious how it was in Albania. Was it worse in Republika Srpska than in Mostar/Sarajevo?
@@maxximum9553we drove around Banja Luka and then to Jajce and I think I would say we found those drivers and roads worse than near the capital. We found driving in/near Mostar and to Sarajevo was a bit easier and road conditions were quite good.
Hi .I hope you enjoy Albania 🇦🇱. I know the roads are bad and so are the drivers 😂😂😂😂but that's the beauty of Albania 🇦🇱. It's different. And if you knock few people of their bikes don't worry to much just drive off coz don't have CCTV around the country 😂😂😂. Enjoy your stay in Albania.
@@albania8982hahahaha I laughed so hard at this. 😂😂😂 we love Albania, can’t wait to come back!
very nice good video
Glad you enjoyed it!
you should try Poland and the Baltics.
We are definitely planning a Baltics road trip soon! We actually just spent a few days at the Christmas markets in Krakow. We can’t wait to head back ❤
Well done,Nice vidéo Thanks!
Glad you liked it!

Awesome video! How many days do u suggest to spend in Bratislava? 😊
Thank you! It’s a relatively small city and all the main sites are in walking distance of each other (minus the Slavin memorial). I would probably say 3 days would be sufficient to see everything at a leisurely pace!
Devinsky Castle is worth seeing

Hi! This was filmed last year on Christmas Day!
@@gabbettfamilytravels 👌👌🤣
Yeah it's a magical place. But unless it is at the peak of summer, it can get really cold there. Bring extra clothes. :D Loads of caves in the region worth seeing as well. Regarding bad experience, yeah the world does not revolve around the customer here. It is quite democratic. First come first serve basis, no one has any preferential treatment. That is why OFF SEASON is best.

I came back from Slovenia a month ago and really miss it. Sorry to hear about the rude couples while waiting for the bus. The lake bled cake was amazing! I initially shared with my friends but that soon changed to one pp. Great vlog
@@annawong5027 thanks for watching! This trip was a year ago and I’m still drooling over that cake! Slovenia is such an amazing place that’s it’s hard not to miss. Wishing you many fun travels!
I researched what we could do with our kids (1yr and 3yrs old) and came across your video. We went to Split a few weeks ago and did pretty much everything you did and recommended! The Polaris boat trip was fantastic and our little girl even made a new friend. Many thanks for the vid!
I’m so glad the video helped! Traveling with kids is always tough because you want to make sure they have a good time too (even tougher with a 1 and 3 year old!). So happy you had a great trip ❤

These men were police or soldiers I understood from their haircuts and weapons that they were soldiers or plainclothes police. You are very nervous. This is not America. Everyone loves, caresses, kisses and plays with children. We do not see everyone as a pervert. Our religion commands us to love children because they are sinless and pure like angels the beauty in them comes from God and we admire it. this has nothing to do with sex.
Thanks for your reply. This was the first time we had this encounter and over our time of 3 months in Turkey we had many more encounters like this. We came to realize that this is normal and that the people of Turkey are some of the kindest we have ever met.
YOU ARE TOO TENSE. You misunderstood everything This is not America, we communicate by touching each other You thought of Turkey as an unsafe life in your country We kiss, smell and love children. Even if we don't have our own children. There may be many perverts in America, but everyone loves children here
You obviously did not read what we wrote! We came to realize that this is normal in Turkey and embraced it. We have never thought of Turkey as an unsafe country or we would never have gone there. Coming from America our first instinct is to be fearful and uncomfortable of things that are not common in our home country. We truly love Turkey and the people but if you grew up in America you would understandably be questionable at first. Thanks for watching!
looks stunning
at some bibles that Vatican forbade or omitted, there are lots of stories about Cappadocians and saints that lived there many years ago.
Thank you very much for sharing your experience going to Vintgar Gorge! I'm also planning on going there this summer with my family. I'm especially worried about the "walking situation" back and forth the parking lot and I'm so happy to see your honest review of the whole experience! The gorge I'm sure was beautiful and you took a really great video despite having a toddler and a baby!
Thanks so much! Slovenia is so wonderful and was one of our favorite places. The gorge is so so beautiful and even the walk back was beautiful. But carrying kids on your back makes it a bit tougher than it should be. But I'm sure letting a 3-year-old walk would have been even tougher! Definitely arrive early and try to get a parking spot at the first parking lot rather than taking the shuttle and if you have young kids, probably plan to take a more leisurely and slow day than us. Maybe stop at the cute cafe on the walk back and grab some yummy dumplings. Hope your trip is magical!

Erm, did the guy in the blue tshirt have a gun ?
Oh my gosh, I didn’t notice that before! When the other guy lifts his shirt I can see something but I can’t say for sure what it is. I hope not. That’s definitely scary 😮
@@gabbettfamilytravels hopfully they were undercover police or somthing 😐
I love my country, thanks for reminding me :):)
Our pleasure!
In the 15 years ive been going to Marmaris with my 4 daughters no men have ever done that. Ive never seen that with other children and I dont believe its a customary thing
It certainly was strange for us to experience being from America where this does not happen. Similar instances happened to us throughout our 3 months in Turkey in different cities as well. While this particular situation may not be customary, the kindness and hospitality in Turkey certainly is 😊 We always had strangers interacting with our kids, playing with them, offering food, so to us it seemed customary. Everyone has their own experience of course.
