HOW TO LS SWAP: LS VS VORTEC
This is the first video of a series on how to Ls swap. I’m going to brake the videos down in sections containing basic knowledge all the way to parts need and how to plan your swap. In this video I go over the differences between a Ls and a vortec. This video covers gen3 engines ls1 ls6 and 4.8,5.3,6.0 vortec.

I wanted a good looking valve cover but didn’t want to spend a lot on them. So I took the chance and ordered a cheap set off Amazon and they look better than I thought they would.

This is a gen3 5.7 hemi with a billet bds 871 blower. We’re not sure what to put it in or what we want to do with the fuel but we know this this will be spicy!

If you went through all that trouble you deserve the ls. Vq is lighter and helps the car around the turns. Ive seen high hp vq engines. Na and with forced induction. So wasn't necessary for power. Good work if it can handle a beat down like that though

Hi Kyle, very informative. Could you go over VVT differences in the harness. I have a gen 4 truck with VVT but the HPI hardness has a 3 pin plug. The other wires are in the hardness but the 5 pin plug is not included. I have a 5 pin plug from the original hardness but I don't know the pin out.
Remove the five pin harness from the engine. Plug the cam sensor plug directly in can sensor. In the black loom at the cam sensor there’s 2 wires. Cut vvt 2 wire plug from your sub harness you removed from the engine and connect them to the 2 wires in the harness.
1 more quick question, the c10 swap i am doing with your harness for manual transmission, i have a 6.2 ls3 out of a 2015 ss camaro and i have the pedel, computer & maf all together. Can i use the pedal i have and just plug it in or will i have to do the wire swap? Thank you much. Bob
Kyle is super helpful. He called me up and helped me troubleshoot my wiring issues with the HPI harness. Would definitely recommend him
Excellent Video! i have your LS3 harness. I do have a question. I am doing a 6.2 Manual swap in a 1979 C-10 with dual tanks. I have 2 relays for the tanks and the sending units. i will be running main tank power to dash switch for left side, when switch is flipped it will cut left pump and power right pump. Do i hook up fuel pump wire from HPI harness to the set up i have? Thank you much! Bob
I would use the green wire from the fuel pump relay on the harness and run that to the switch then from the switch to each fuel pump relay so that the switch is always having low current though it.

Will this wire not being hooked cause a loss of communication in the computer when trying to start
No. Are you losing 12v on the ignition wire while cranking?

Do these work with gen 3 truck coils ?
The instructions says they will but we use gen4 truck coils

Good! We’re about to get another set for another build.
No matter hour much I change the over/under speed it doesn’t change the idle. My truck still idles like normal. Is there something that would make the ecu ignore these changes?

Been dealing with a MAF code on a blue/green ECU harness for a while now. Thank you for the information! the more i learn about these harnesses makes me wonder if it wouldn't have been easier to get a nice one, or reuse the factory one
Really all the harness are pretty simple just need to make sure your using the parts they were designed for.
I'd like to watch this, but the volume you recorded the video at is WAY too quiet. I've got every volume slider on my PC maxed and I can barely hear you.
There might be something up with your setup, sounds fine on my end
I checked the volume on the original video. I also checked it on my PC phone and tablet. I’m sorry your having trouble.

Still hauling wood in a foot of snow with the ole lm7 going on 290k and the ole Silverado still purrs like a kitten. 5.3 are great engines!

Any new updates with this car?
It was driven for a while and decided to pull the engine and blower setup out. The engine/transmission are in a 1970 Nova with a GT350 supercharger. Will have videos of it soon. The blower set is going on a gen2 hemi.
How did these up up working out for you?

I would like to see someone slam an srt forged crank and some mmx low compression drop in pistons and rods with a filled 5.7 block and run a roots with electronic or mechanical methanol injection. Y'all have the most expensive part of that combo sitting on top the engine. 2000 to get the block up to snuff, 2000 in valve train, and idk about 4000 in fuel delivery and you would have a blown alcohol hemi. I would think a 2000 hp mark could be done with some careful tuning.

I’m confused as to how the same switch will allow power to one and kill power to the other while it’s being pressed. Sorry if I sound dumb, I’m doing a lq9 swap in my r10 and I’m using a th350 but it has lockup wiring and a vacuum line. I’m learning wiring so this is all new to me. Any support is massively appreciated!

It’s pretty much 2 switch’s inside when you push it, it brakes contact on the first switch and makes contact on the second switch.

Damn I’ve been searching everywhere on how to run the fuel pump relay , quick question tho my car had a fuel enabler wire which I bypassed bcm before I did the Ls swap . Car came wit the lt1 I have the 94 caprice , it worked after I bypassed but since I swapped engines do I leave the fuel enabler hooked to nothing or do it need to go somewhere. And I appreciate you for this vid. Helped alot
