What sealant did you use?
I'll pay you to do my e39 540i xenons. I don't trust myself.
Trust yourself. It's not that hard and I hear there's a great video on youtube to walk you through it.
How do i adjust the new projector? Should it be aimed at the center of the hotspot of the high beam ? That's the most annoying part of the whole install
Yes, I adjusted it to highbeam hotspot. Was very annoying
Good Video, which UUC Clutch did you use ? Thanks
Segmented kevlar disc with lighteweight v8 flywheel
@@alexdoescars Thank you , I was just curious.
I appreciate the thoroughness and lack of music. great work
Hello. I wanted to ask if it's possible to install a steering wheel with a dual-stage airbag on an old E39. I plan to install that steering wheel and am prepared to sacrifice the airbag functionality.
Possible? Yes. Feasible? No. Keep the airbag.
*Thumbs up*
i have question, can i connect 12v on high beam and take out old H7 light bulbs?
If by high beam you mean solenoid wires I left unconnected in the video then I guess technically yes. It will flash a lightbulb out warning unless codes out and might not pass inspection though. I later connected said wire to original high beam wires so now I have original halogen high beam and also have a xenon main beam that turns into a highbeam.
Do those r/t and speak buttons straight up work or?
Not sure as I never used them on any car, pre or post facelift. Also you probably need to have a stock headunit for them to work. Everything else works though
@@alexdoescars maybe you can program them on aftermarket unit?
Maybe, haven't ever pressed them, they might as well have worked for all I know. I don't have the car anymore so cannot test it.
This video is so helpful❤ Thank you!
Hey, what is the part# for the old connector ?
use realoem to find any part number on your bmw
speak
What’s the toque setting for the support beating please
Wow that's got to be the cleanest E39 under side I've ever seen. It looks almost new it's hard to believe the trans needed to be replaced from the look of it but I guess it's what's going on inside that matters. Maybe doing the clutch? Oh all was answered towards the end LOL. I always answer too early LOL.
Thank you. It's hard to believe it has 320 000km on it. Just one small spot of rust on it too, just starting in front of a rear wheel. Needs to be fixed asap
nice job! What clutch set up is that?
Uuc lightweight singlemass flywheel with their kevlar clutch disc
@@alexdoescars thanks. Does it rattle at idle?
@@AvusM5903 with clutch up in neutral yes, quite bad
My gearbox makes a noise in all gears but 5th. Could be a bad gear box. It’s still at the shop. They’ve not seen what the flywheel and clutch look like yet.
@@ravbarringThat sounds more like a gearbox issue. Mine is only rattling in neutral when clutch is not engaged as I swithed from dampenimg dual mass flywheel to undampened single mass. If you look up singlemass flywheel chatter/rattle, you'll find the sound.
I am 69th like. Yayyy
Nice Video, but I have a weird question. Are there left or right marks on the new projectors? I ordered an installed mine. But even though the adjustment for high and low beam are right, the projector now looks really off in the mount.
Not sure if there is a difference. The should both have cutoff on the same side, so it really shouldn't matter
Hi, where the 2 black wires to be connected?
Wires connect solenoid to high beam harness. At the time of filming I didn't have a splitter. You connect it to high beams so that when you pull your high beam stalk, it moves a cutoff panel in front of your low beams turning it into high beam. So now you have your xenons working as high beams as well as old halogen high beams.
@@alexdoescars thank you.
what did u do with ground cable that was connected to old projector?
I can't check now as the M is in winter storage and I don't remember. Probably grounded it to metal part of new projector
Thanks for a no-nonsense video on this job. And thanks for providing the torque specs. Wow, those Guibos were wasted!!!
Happy to help
A healthy E39 M5 does 100-200 km/h in 12.0 s!
This did it in 12.8 :( She needs work though ...and to live somewhere warm and dry
@@alexdoescars Yes, your engine is healthy. According to German magazines (1998 - 2000), a brand new E39 M5 could do 5.0 s 0-100 km/h & 17.0 s 0-200 km/h. 17 - 5 = 12! Next time, try to use a device like DRAGY to record your accurate time or at least use your car's digital speedometer which is almost as precise as GPS. This engine is a masterpiece. If well-maintained, it lasts as high as a Toyota Camry engine but delivers far superior performance than the ugly and boring Toyota! S62B50 is a reliable beast! I'm looking forward to see more videos of your lovely M5!
@@Messergebnis-liebhaber I actually had an accelerometer on board that I used to calculate power of the car for a school project. Video was just an afterthought.
@@alexdoescars So, you are a schoolboy who owns and drives an E39 M5?!! What a great country you live in!! 😂

converting a BMW e39 uk headlights to EVOX-R V2.0 D2S Bi xenon.... i noticed that all the EVOX-R V2.0 D2S Bi xenon sold are with a US beam pattern .....can those me modified to be used in uk? how? can the cutoff be inverted? thanx
Good question. Honestly, I don't know. If you are handy and want to go that route you could probably disassemble the projector and flip the cutoff shield but as there are moving parts, probably not that simple. If you do this, would be cool you made a video or a diy thread as there is no documentation I could find on this.
Купи хорошие Bi-Led.....
Hi Alex, great video! How tough is it to do this job on jack stands especially when it comes to torquing the bolts? I do not have a lift and am planning to do this job on the jack stands just like you did
I'd say not too tough. Hardest part is probably removing the exhaust as it's quite heavy.
@@alexdoescars thanks Alex yup looks like the exhaust will be tough to remove. Luckily I have the mufflers chopped off haha
It's not too hard. Mufflers are the heaviest part so having them chopped will help a lot.
Hi Alex I am planning to do this job soon. However I will completely replace the driveshaft together with the CV joint. You marked the ends connecting to the differential and transmission. Since I will be replacing the entire driveshaft I won’t have marks on the ends. Can I just place the driveshaft in any orientation then?
I'm not sure. I think you might be good to install it in any position as it should be balanced but you shoud do some research on that. Worst case, there is 1/3 chance it goes right way anyway :)
The airbag doesn't seem it fit flush, maybe it's blocked by the wires and is not all the way in. Same happened with mine
I think the gap you are referring to is by design as the airbag needs to move to push the horn. At least to me it looks the same as every other facelift wheel I've seen and has worked great.
Where you buy all equip?
Short shifter and bushing refresh kit were from schmiedmann. Knob I bought from bmw dealer Pielmeier in germany.
I am absolutely not looking forward to this job, but I ordered the EvoX 2.0 already and want that Bi-Xenon function so badly! But my car is a 4/03 production. So maybe I need to find some used head lights first.. Nice video!
Thanks. Non bakeable lights are a pain. It's very hard to get the olf leans cleanly off to fit a new one. Did you do it yet? How did it go?
What connectors did you use to connect the bi-xenon
I couldn't find exact splitter I used. But basically it was highbeam connector for car harness on one side and 2 connectors on other side, one for high beams in headlight and one for bixenon that I changed to fit one I installed in the video
Nice video mate thanks, voice over volume is a bit low though i think.
I dont know what evox R2 you have? I have 3 sets of Synolin with green adapter as you have (from their store I bought it maybe 2 years ago) but make relative alignment between high beam and low beam e39 is almost impossible. So lense cant be at Exact center.........
I don't remember what brand name I have. Adjusting is very frustrating and takes lots of patience and some luck. I didn't get it exactly centered, but close enough as I don't even drive at night.
Excuse me, it's a M5 or?
Yes
What kind d2s light bulb you using? Really nice colour.
Not 100% sure, but I think it's 4300k
It's shine beautiful. Where can i buy this projectors ? Thanks.
I bought these at xenonkauppa.fi which is local to me. If you google evox r v2 you will have plenty of vendors to choose from
@@alexdoescars Are they projecrors good after some time of use, or are they burnt ?
@@blagojcefiliposki1170 I only had these for about a year and a half on my car. So far still pristine
@@alexdoescars Thank you for this information. I hesitate to buy or not, but I will probably buy. 😀
@@blagojcefiliposki1170 i would definitely recommend if your light output is poor. Before I changed these my fog lights provided more light than my driving lights. It is literally a day and night difference from 20 year old worn out projectors
Great video. Clear picture and no nonsense just do mentality
What size threaded rods did you have to use to install the projectors?
Hi, it's actually M4 thread. I just got to measuring it.
Can you tell me what are the manufacturers of the new pieces you used? If they are aftermarket, of course. I heard aftermarket pieces for BMW driveshaft were not that good, unlike all the other aftermarket parts for the whole car
These are bmw parts ordered from a dealer. Next time I'm under the car I can try to find stamps of actual manufacturer. Bmw doesn't make these, they just put their logo on.
Nothing visible on flex disc and the csb is hidden under heat shield. These are quite reasonable at dealer prices, but if you do go with something else just pick a reputable manufacturer like lemförder for example
@@alexdoescars Thank you, man. I really appreciate it. I will check them out these days.
Hello! Can you please tell me the part numbers of this ?
I see you dissasembled rear lci taillights... is there something youre doing with those? Just curious.
I had an extra pair and was curious how they worked and if they celis light could be put in a different housing. Those rear light bars would look amazing on e31 if I ever get my hands on one.
@@alexdoescars so the evoxr2s are basically bolt on, except its shorter projector than v1.0 and stock?
@@alexdoescars also, what kind of size and threads were the new studs?
@@wheresfuninthat yes they are bolt on if you don't mind the gap. Probably would work fine as is but the gap really bugged me. I'd recommend buying v1 instead of v2 for e39. As for the new studs I just got a threaded rod with appropriate nuts and cut it to pieces. I think it was m8 but could be misremembering. You can easily measure the stock stud threads when they are out
@@alexdoescars thanks, shouldve asked you before ordering my v2.0's, dont know if they are better than v1.0's, but i like simple oem fitment rather than diy stuff. Oh well, will have to return to your video once i get them shipped to me :) hopefully theyre not gonna be pain in the ass to install.
Just done one today you don't need to remove the cross member to remove drive shift from a e60
Don't know about e60 but on e39 it really helps to remove the cross member. At least on reassembly if you want to use torque wrench
@@alexdoescars you do have to spin the shift to one position for each nut but saved me time as I was on my back on the drive
Amazing video, but... 21:50 wait what ? You didn't ran a cable between your high beam bulb and the projector to use the bi-xenon fonction ? It would improve your high beams so much ! Then the halogen high beam is just an auxiliary high beam like on more modern cars. If you want to go over the top you can also replace the H7 halogen with good LED bulbs like the Philips Pro9000, but that's 150€. Look here at 2:48 and and 4:35 ;) ua-cam.com/video/Ax2Hz52Ftis/v-deo.html
I didn't have correct splitters at the time of fiming, but I did leave a connector for bi-xenon solenoid hangin outside the housing. Since then I have connected it to high beam and yes, it is a huge improvement :)
@@alexdoescars Oh, good, that would have been a shame :)

Excellent vids man, found the shifter bushing one especially useful. Nothing is missed. Do you still have the car? Any more e39 m5 content in the works?
Thank you. Still have the car, going to store it for the winter soon. I got couple videos filmed but started school half a year ago and work at the same time so time to edit and film has been scarce. Also budget on car is tighter now that I had to reduce my working hours. If I happen to win a lottery these are coming soon 😀

MERCEDES OWNER HERE, can someone tell me why this issue is common with German cars but not so much with toyotas, or hondas, ford or chevy cars?
I think of it as a fuse, with years of abuse I'd rather have my flex disc go than my differential. I have no experience in American cars nor have I ever worked on an front wheel drive car, do they even have flex dics? These Germans seem to require constant maintenance to keep you from boredom :)
because those cars you mention arent rare wheel drive.. the guibo discs go through stress heat during every drive cycle they wear off over time
Thank you so much man, doing my CSB/Guibo/rear CV right now and this has been super helpful. I just wish I did all of this when I had the trans out last year :'(
Glad I could help. I recommend doing shifter bushings while driveshaft is out if not already done.
@@alexdoescars Already did those when I did the clutch 30k miles ago. I just didn't do the CSB while i was in there mistakenly so it took out my giubo. I will say this, loosen the 18mm bolt for holding the two shaft halves together while the shaft is still bolted to the car. That way you don't need to do any janky stuff to break it loose off of the car. I also tightened mine this way too
@@mikeking5834Good tip. I realized iit too late
@@alexdoescars I've watched at least 4-5 videos on this subject matter and no one says to loosen it before taking the shaft out, it's not just you :)
I just did this on my 2003 525i. Took me 22 man hours. Great video!
Itselläni on edessä sama projekti 04/2002 e39 530D autossa koska valot eivät näytä enää suunnilleen mitään.
which year of construction is your m5?
1999
@@alexdoescars is this single of dual stage airbag? i really want the facelift steering wheel in my M5 but mine is from 02-99 so single stage airbag is it possible?
Mine is 06/99 so dual stage. Switch from single to dual happened in 03/99 so yours should be single. If you want to make sure, one clear difference is when you remove the steerig wheel, if slipring stays on the wheel it's a single stage. If it stays on the steering column its dual. Because of this not only are airbags not interchangeable but neither are steering wheels. Swapping is possible but you need to swap at least steering column, airbag modules and probably lots of other stuff like seatbelt pre-tensioners and rest of the airbags. If you have a donor car and lots of time, should be doable.
Very informative, I ordered the same kit as you and thought i was doing something wrong when parts wouldnt go together as I expected.
