With Alexander and Maryna, I found thrusts to their outside line works best. Up + low left works pretty well as a riposte. Backstep thrusts in general are also really good. If you’re a fan of the LG low & high thrust, try forward + high left + high right - a moulinet into thrust. Really good reach and active frames. Against Yendrek, I personally found hitting the axehead to be a good way to provoke him. Hit that successfully and it will recoil back, and prompts him to attack. Void and punish that.

I only just noticed she had a new costume today and immediately started wondering if it's been implemented for ages and I just haven't noticed. It needs a little bit of work to clear up the blood splatter locations, but damn, I'm loving this costume.

I would suspect that outfit Marta has is what she uses when she goes out for a fight (Like when she joins the crew to hunt Sam). Kinda similar to why Marie for instance wears men's clothes. Her clothes look a bit feminine to the modern eye but are not women's clothes at all. Perhaps Marta thanks to her noble background really needs to hide her identity too. Either way I am also very curious as it gives off Zorro vibes.

With Yendrek I feel like the best advice is to find a move that kills him reliably early. I do the down forward high right with Alex and his AI does not seem to know how to stop it. With Marta I suspect you need something like that as well. I'd try to use the Up high left or LG forward high left or high right.

The mask is taken from the Commedia dell'Arte, Italian popular theatre that created character archetypes like Harlequin. The dark outfit is possibly meant to at least evoke Scaramouche, another character archetype that usually acted as a vain but bumbling henchman and dressed in black (the color of Spanish formal dress). The character would later lose the mask in favor of white makeup. There's also a swashbuckling novel by Sabatini by the title of Scaramouche. The 1950s film adaptation boasts possibly the longest duel scene ever clocking at about 6 minutes. In a theatre, of course.

19:30 you can followup that low thrust with a head-height thrust. LG + Low right + High left. I found it particularly good against more passive opponents. Marta’s quartercircle strikes in general are really good. If someone doesn’t give up the center-line, a cut often can provoke them out of it. And the fastest one she has is Quartercircle + High Left. If you like Kalkstein’s disenage to thrust, it’s here, as well: Quartercircle + High Right.

Swashbuckler fun at its best. Id watch a movie about these characters.The game has a certain old school mix of Errol Flynn and Jackie Chan movies. And yeah they are an adorable pair of swords women. Thanks for showing us the game

The Saga continues and the cast grows....this game is just so much fun. The pirate girl brings a little bit of backstory to our main character.

Hey Major! A little tip with Maryna, learn to use her shield. She may not have a finishing move, but she is the Queen of Push and Slash. She also shines at side to side maneuvering. Great stuff as always.

Successful pushes will temporarily drop your character’s guard, but the duration can be shortened through a backdash (double tap + back). As far as I know, Maryna’s only thrust is her double tap + high right. If you want reach, she has a lunge cut from Forward + LG + high left. If you want more options in general, try quarter circle strikes. Most characters have them.

I have zero experience with swords, but i gotta say, Maryna is not gelling with your play style. On the other hand there were some nice cinematic death-scenes...if that helps?

The current beta branch has a badass new skin for Marta. It's 4500 ducats that I'm slowly grinding towards.

This IS such a purely FUN game. It has a nice clear look to it. Amusing and flamboyant characters with lots of dialogue that is just great to listen too. And of course your own commentary adds to the fun. Thanks for continuing to play the game.

Do all the characters have independent stories that you can play?

I love that uncle Tarnawski uses the exact proverb his nephew used to describe how he trusts no one. Jacek's like "ah, shoulda seen that family trait comin'..." Pretty sure this "proverb" is actually a line from a short story by the sci-fi legend Stanisław Lem (it was a poetic prophecy for a king, saying his family will kill him) - I couldn't find an older source. And I love how Jacek, after all this nonsense, still stands between the uncle and Maryna. A knight's a knight, even when he's become a saber for hire. Wondering how this little inheritance interlude will tie into the Samuel vs. Jakub arc from the arcade. We know Tarnawski doesn't like Samek, we know Laszlo is in Jakub's employ, and we saw Laszlo in Tarnawski's entourage (he was the non-decapitated hajdu).

16:42 most of Jan’s cuts aren’t that good for blade beats. Jacek’s forward combos are much better for that. That being said, Jan doesn’t really need it - he can use LG high right to do the quick number 7 cut on her head. Barabsz has the same move from LG, but he doesn’t have as many thrusts as Jan has. Kalkstein’s story should be interesting. I can see Zera and Samuel’s plots being relevant to each other somehow but I wonder how Kalkstein is going to tie into this. By the way, I don’t believe you have done an arcade run with Maryna yet. That could be an interesting episode.

8:56 Yeah, two sabers just exchanging like that is the most fun you can have in Hellish Quart. Longswords can do it too if both fighters are evenly matched but I find the rhythm of saber more fun.

Zera's entrrence was so badass. It catches you completely off guard too cause we are made to believe he was passed out drunk XD. If you look closely at the scene Laszlo is one of Tarnevski's men and he was scared shitless seeing his buddy get killed like that.

You inspired me to get my Marta on and I cleared 15 rounds. I found holding right trigger (where she pushes with the left hand and holds the sword back) followed by lower left (to lunge from that position) worked pretty well at the right time. Pulling the sword back leaves you wide open but the AI seems to not react well, maybe because they perceive the weapon to be further away and less of a threat.

It feels weird that you reached Ganyu without using the Heat System to the fullest extent or learning any easy air combos. Plus I see no stance cancelling using db. From the closing segment, I’m happy you had a fun time regardless. Good on you

Are you a Zafina main? I remember using her in Tekken 7 as my sub main, but just as with Jack 7 I could not make the transition between game mechanics. When you already have a predisposition to use certain moves, you kinda find it hard to learn the new playstyle. Plus I hate they removed Jack’s 422 (held) Unblockable. It was my favourite move. I played Yoshimitsu for a while before finally landing on Victor. I don’t play too often (due to work and other games), but I consider myself at least a red rank Victor specialist at this point.
