In Indonesia, pointing and calling has been implemented since the railway company’s reform in 2015 to improve safety. Not only for the railway, but also for the light rail and metro system. Our latest “Whoosh” high-speed rail also used this method albeit using the Chinese variant of pointing and calling (it’s more complex tho).

There are cameras in the cabs watching them all the time. If they do not go through this ritual, they are chastised. It is a rather drastic method of reinforcing rules in a totalitarian environment. It looks silly, but when the employer does not trut the integrity of the employee, this is their manner of enforcement.

In Australia back in the 70’s drivers had a great idea to help driver fatigue. It was called "take your kid to work on weekends ". And when I say work, I mean, teach your 9 yr old how to drive the train, then sit on the single seat on the other side of the cab reading the newspaper. Absolutely true. No way in hell you’d be able to pull that off these days. 😊

I used to live in Sydney, Australia, & whenever I caught the light rail (tram), the driver always pointed to all the signs. I guess it's the same on JR (Japanese Rail)

En España hace años un tren descarriló por exceso de velocidad en una curva muriendo mucha gente. La gente se echó encima del conductor por la negligencia de haber sobrepasado el límite de velocidad. El hombre ya había avisado que era peligroso, que la rutina lleva a cometer errores y no habían métodos para eliminar las distracciones. Como siempre, al menos en España, hacemos todo una vez ya ha pasado una desgracia. Ese hombre obviamente falló, pero un error humano es totalmente factible y sabemos que tarde o temprano ocurren. De haber implementado un sistema como este y encima duplicado, seguramente nunca habría ocurrido ese accidente de tren. Y lo más importante, igual redundante, no hay que quedarse con ese accidente de tren y ya está. Hay que tener en mente ese accidente de tren para anticipar los posibles peligros y ponerles barreras a los errores humanos
