IDLE NO MORE! -Frustrated with a lack of consultation on treaty policies, cutbacks and seemingly unilateral federal government decisions on natural resources and the environment, we are standing up united. With our worldly brothers and sisters, hand in hand, saying,"We will no longer sit idly by while these things are being pushed through." In the spirit of preserving what we have always seen as...

In 1812, Seven Strong Warrior Nations united against a common enemy and were victorious. The Dakota, Ojibway, Assiniboine, Cree, Mandam, Hidatsa, and Chippewa Nations became allies to fight and secure the land for the coming generations. Now, 200 years later, descendants of some of these same strong Nations gather once more. But this time, it is in celebration. Our spirits have endured many har...

In the spring of 2005, Jim Miller, a Native spiritual leader and Vietnam veteran, found himself in a dream riding on horseback across the great plains of South Dakota. Just before he awoke, he arrived at a riverbank in Minnesota and saw 38 of his Dakota ancestors hanged. At the time, Jim knew nothing of the largest mass execution in United States history, ordered by Abraham Lincoln on December ...
Impressing movie. What a suffering. But what a victory this ride for the mind of native people
White Europeans stole this land from native American Indian indigenous people. White europeans are the invaders.
Moved my heart. Sadly, I did not know this history, BUT I do now and have shared it. I now understand why I never liked Nov 11 Remembrance Day. I will always honour December 26th in remembrance of the Dakota 38+2 and their families. I am sorry, please forgive me. Thank you, I love you. Hawaiian prayer Ho’oponopono Take Joy Always~Diane 💜
This story is heartbreaking. I just learned of this tragedy this summer. Why is this not taught in American history class? This really hit me hard, the utter disrespect white people have shown to people of other nations, and to people of color. I have always love indigenous cultures, especially our beautiful people of the plains and woodlands. Next year I will pay homage to those lost their lives that day so long ago. 😭
I have watched the movie and shed many tears this morning. My heart is heavy. I pray that this will never happen again. The atrocities perpetrated on the indigenous peoples in this country are beyond my understanding 😢😢😢 People should not forget, then maybe we can move forward. Perhaps we will be more tolerant of each other’s differences and see how much we are all suffering from the injustice in this world…. My prayers are that we awaken to the fact that this is our planet together. We are all connected to every other thing here. If we are unable to live together, then we will ALL perish together. Look into your heart. Face the truth. Love is the only way….
❤

I'm proud to be native American when I watch this im a full blood Lakota it's in our blood to not be scared of death thank you to my Dakota brothers
It is a real good Documentation, I am far away from there up here in Germany. If I would be there, as they did this Ride. I probably join them on this healing ride. Knowing that I am not native american. Sorry if I wrote something wrong, my English is good but once in a while, I stumble with a few words. Thank you for sharing, here in Germany i wouldn't see that at all.
Are videos posted on youtube really free or is this just an alternative way to monetize? I doubt this was posted amywjere it can be streamed or downloaded and people not have to watch the ads here on youtube.
This is first time I watched this. I have relatives of Native American mix, do not live on reservations either, my ancestors fought against the Shawnee, Iroquois, Cheyenne, Sioux, Arapaho commanche from both my parents side. Some in famous battles. Most famous is Battle of Beechers Island. I have often wanted to reach out to descendants of Cheyenne Chief Roman Nose and tell them I am sorry as my Great Great grandfather was one of those three ordered to specifically target Roman Nose because he was a good shot. I truly feel there is wrong in both sides. But mainly with the White govt of the US at that time. And they learned from the English who to dominate and enslave and commit racism. My ancestors are mainly Irish and Scot. And I can’t stand the English because of how my people were treated by the English govt. so through that connection I can relate to what the native Americans have and are going through here in this country. I love The history and culture of all Native Americans. I love them!!!! All the people of every tribe. I love you. And wish these bad histories had never happened. It has. I am sorry. Please May all Native Americans heal and may the US govt help the Rez Indians like they help those coming across the southern border illegally. May businesses thrive in their areas and jobs increase and drug and alcohol abuse stop on the Rez and everywhere. I personally think that they are targeted by elitists from around the world because of their sufferings. I pray for peace and healing for all who suffer. May the Great Spirit, who I call God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus Christ bless you all. Amen
There were no horses till the explorers from Spain came
hyperfixating on the removal of the Dakota from Minnesota for around 3 weeks. So happy to learn more ❤❤
Thank you! I appreciate you sharing 🤠🐢💚💚💚 I hit the like button and subscribe. Looking forward to future content. 👍
Beautiful language!

18:18 she pointed out what was true and at times uncomfortable. 18:32 His perspective was understandable. But the fact he didn't understand fully what she meant and instead try to justify it.. was uncalled for in my opinion.
Go now and share their story with the world
I selldom post comments, but now I feel that I have to. I was really moved by your film and I think it is an important documentary. Reconciliation is the way of the future! I really liked the image of the horse of having the six directions AND moving forward! Thank you! As a Swede it was also gratifying to see that you used footage from the Swedish film Nybyggarna! Take care!
RIP Jim Miller…he passed just this year.
The journey is now complete
This documentary is beautiful and real and I'm glad to be seeing it. The history and community that's shown here is deeply moving. Thank you for sharing it
Beautiful
I have to share with you all, I was born in Mankato, MN. I’m a 3rd generation in the United States. Norwegian, Italian, and Irish. My parents told me the truth since I could remember. Our families were not here yet in the states. But our family empathizes with your families that endured such horrendous fate due to others. The hanging in Mankato is still scarred into the town. I grew up in DT Mankato. In 3rd grade specifically I remember seeing spirits and feeling so much darkness and sadness that I told my dad. That’s when he basically broke it all out to me and said look. Some white folks brutally murdered and stole from the Natives. So he told me not to be scared of the spirits they just want us to know the story. I’ll never forget this. Thank you for sharing your story. I could never in depth explain what you personally went through, just know that there are many that support you. ❤ I admire, respect, and honor all of you and your culture. 😊 Keep telling the story so that others know the true history. They don’t teach us in schools how corrupt this country is, I only knew because of my parents telling me 🙈 the whole thing was so inhumane. Like it’s disgusting to treat anyone like this. I feel you all deserve the best respect and love. Like idk how else to express my condolences on this matter. I will always share the story. The truth. Mankato is my home. The Minnesota river brings me to tears when I come back to MN to visit, I moved to SW Iowa a few years back. It was always a tradition for me to go to the land of memories pow wow for my birthday 9/21 I miss them. 🥺🙈 I will be back home by the River this Sept. I hope I can see the tradition of the powwow again this year. Love you all so much and thank you for sharing the truth to us all. ❤
Never forget they were your ancestors too your family even if you are not related by blood
Made 10 years ago. Just now watching for the first time. This is beautiful.

We have our own tragic event on the crow creek sioux Indian reservation of SD half mile northwest of the town stephan along the beautiful Missouri River. During the dust bowl area of the from spring to the two hot summer days of 1931. Sixty of eighty hunkpati Dakota sioux people were definitely still living on Cheney rush, a long valley just below the hilly prairie land country along the Missouri River. The continued harassment by the local towns people and the ranchers in the northern part of the reservation started the Buffalo County war in the spring of 1931! The American civilians wanted to take away the Dakota sioux people's traditional reservation Buffalo hunting grounds and our rich fertile farm lands along the beautiful Missouri River. When a hundred American civilians arrived there with guns and rifles! An altercation of violence that really happened there! Both sides started a full bloody massacre fight! The American civilians had less fewer casualties of five had died there! The entire Dakota sioux Indian encampment were all killed there! The elders were young children at the time saw witness the tragedy unfolded there will hiding a safe distance away! Many years later they told the story well crying and wipt of the tragic massacre at Cheney rush, the second sand creek massacre! The American intruders built a huge bound fire an burned the poor Dakota sioux Indian bodies! Then the American civilians buried the burned ashes remains in the one of the two rolling small hills the north of the massacre site! The one hill to the left side. There's no memorial site there because of the forgotten tragedy of the poor hunkpati Dakota sioux people who were killed there! Later on the same day the children want an told everyone on the reservation of thier own Dakota sioux people who died there! The next day a larger party of over three hundred Dakota sioux warriors we're coming ready to fight against the American intruders! Iron Nation's kul wicasa oyate Lakota sioux Indian warriors may have assisted in the fighting to! After a running battle into a full retreat probably more Americans civilians were probably killed in the fierce fighting battle site! The rest of the defeated American civilians escaped or fled back across the reservation border to thier ranches and towns never wanting to take back the hunkpati Dakota sioux people's traditional reservation Buffalo hunting grounds and our rich fertile farm lands along the beautiful Missouri River. The last forgotten Dakota sioux Indian war tragedy of the 20th century and the last true victory song for the Dakota and Lakota sioux warriors may to the two August hot summer days of 1931! The entire world don't know this tragic event ever happened! The American civilians wanted to cover up the evidence that it never happened there! The people of the crow creek sioux Indian reservation of SD still remember the sad tragic day and victories battle of the our proud hunkpati Dakota people! Leaving for a hunting trip many of the brave Dakota sioux men had a family and young pregnant young ladies at the brutal Cheney rush massacre site! Just adds to the very sad tragic story to! The beautiful peninsula state park de Grey lake resort lodging is twenty four and a half miles north of the reservation. De Grey resort lodging is were the dances with wolves movie. Civil War battle scene was made. Have a great fabulous wonderful day.
For those who had bets behind the scene and your psychology pop up videos yes I did press on it because it was Gray and for those who are studying which way I would go with if given Sublime picture pop up message like we're playing Pictionary here well I'm not playing Pictionary and I'm not playing match but I was very good in Contigo battleship and cribbage and I love to volleyball and wishes and Boogie boarding lol love the ocean but I also respect it water can be very peaceful but but all so very young destructive or I should say powerful I respected because when the wave comes in mother nature and Mother Nature's elements come together it can be devastating for those who live on our oceans
I wonder how much they paid the actors that took part in the recreation of the gallows scene? They must have used stunt men as that scene would have been very dangerous to film.
I’ve always had a passion and respect for the Native American. I feel so naive that my white ancestors and neighbors done so many bad things to the Native Americans. I’m so sorry.. I have major respect for you all.
Loved this, my dakota teacher in 7th grade was playing this at school
Much respect to you for honoring your Ancestors murdered by a Tyrant.
thank you for sharing you are educating the world!
So moving.♥
Forgive, as we will never forget. Creator blessings to The People...The Humane BEings...such beautiful Spirits!
Thank you Jim Miller. May all Aboriginals in North America be healed, and may we all go back to Mother Nature united!
Back to what!??! .. just another goofy white statement
You have questions?
It is 12-27-22 and I just now seen the video in its entirety. I have always had a connection to this tragic even that happened in Dec. 1862. My first ever trip to Mankato in the early 2000s. 1st time in Minn. I had no idea this hanging went on. Have learned the History of it ever since. Thank you for making this film. Pilamaya.
This year is a cold one, blessings to all the riders and their loved ones. Wopila
THE SIOUX UPRISING HAD THOSE "NATIVE AMERICANS" KILLING WHITE SETTLERS WITH NO REMORSE! WHITE BABIES WERE THROWN , WOMEN AND CHILDREN KILLED AND THE INDIANS DID NOT SHOW ANY REMORSE. PRESIDENT LINCOLN GOT TALKED INTO NOT HANGING 150 OF THEM BECAUSE BISHIP HENRY WHIPPLE (FORMERING ON THE FEDERAL BUILDING AT FT. SNELLING) TALKED INTO SPARING THE MAJORITY OF THEM. THAT IDIOT GOV. TIM WALZ THINK THOSE HANGED WERE VICTIMS?????? HELL NO!! THEY GOT JUSTICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All the worst you can think off was done to the people of the tribes first..it happened on both sides. Most of the people hanged were not ones who actively fought and some were peaceful Dakotas..even among the thirty nine ..not just the three hundred or so who were the first consideration with this mass hanging. You seem to yearn for demonizing people without including the whole picture in accuracy in order to present a one sided view ..
I will definitely be joining the ride one of these years and when my daughters get older I will bring them with as well. I want them to know what’s in their blood and to learn about the ways of life (I am Aztec).
Thank you for this documentary. So sad to see so many of the original riders have passed away, and especially those who were so young. I hope suicide did not claim them.💜
Long Live Chief Mahkato!
