    Looks amazing Matt. What medium are they all growing in or is it peat as used in smaller pots? How do you stop the greenfly trashing the pitchers as when i tried with a belfast sink mini bog garden they pitchers were ruined.

    They are amazing! I have a "small" one and I love it! Seeing yours growing so full of plants is such an inspiration to try this kind of setups. How long do you suppose the Spaghnum moss will last before it starts to decay and need changing? Mine is almost three years old and seems very healthy

    Thank you for explaining this in detail. Can you clarify something? I only have one pitcher plant and it has two flowers developing. Are these plants self-pollinating? Or would I need another pitcher plant to get seeds?

    If there are white new growths under the soil, are these the start of new root growth? My plant still looks dormant, but when repotted has lots of new white growth under the soil/rhizome. Assume this is a good sign I haven't killed it during dormancy?

    Hi Matt, this is going to sound like a stupid question because I’m sure you’re asked it all the time. In past bog videos you’ve mentioned you removed the soil where the bogs lay and backfilled it in the liner. Have you had any problems with the nutrients in the soil affecting the plants? Everyone online always stresses about using nutrient poor soil like peat, so I was curious how you pulled it off. Especially with such beautiful bogs like yours, seems counterintuitive to what most people say. I love your bog garden tours and i’m always looking forward to the next, have a great day! -Roy

    • @HampshireCarnivorousPlants
      @HampshireCarnivorousPlants 9 місяців тому

      Hi Roy No , we back fill the soil from the footing into the centre and level out , then we lay the liner on top and fill with sphagnum peat only , first time I’ve been asked this , hope this helps , 😀

      Hi Matt what a fantastic video, I would like to start my own big garden, but I’m stuck with the peat, nobody around by me stocks just peat, all they sell are bags of compost, can you suggest what I use, very much appreciated

  • @marcelskeldalsrensen9264
    @marcelskeldalsrensen9264 9 місяців тому

    Do you have any problems with birds? I live in Denmark and here the blackbirds love to dig in the wet peat and sphagnum moss. And they just rip VFT and small droseras apart.

    I have massive success with sundews for many years, by using boiled water allowed to cool down. I probably have hundreds growing splendidly, however I have always had disastrous results with the Venus using the same technique. Are they much more sensitive to water?

  • @Raccoonhands7
    @Raccoonhands7 9 місяців тому

    So, I have no idea about anything else but I have some sundews, capensis.. I reported then into a 50-50 mix of perlite and blended up sphagnum moss. Also most to the point of powder but it looks similar size to normal porridge oats. They have been losing it so far after about 3 months. They are under lights and have been divided a few times. I would love to see you trial peat alternatives. Fine coco coir I've heard can be good as long as it's had the salt washed out which, the slightly more expensive stuff has. Thanks for the video.
